The first king to change the author's life was Elvis, the King of Rock n' Roll; the second was the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Very simply and accessibly written, this is Elvis seen through the eyes of Rick Stanley, one of his three step-brothers. It is also Stanley's personal testimony of how he went from life at Graceland, to a life mired in drugs (and grief), and finally to a life saved through Jesus Christ. If you're looking for a sensationalized, tell-all book about the dark side of Elvis, you won't find it here. But you will find an unvarnished portrait of Elvis as a complex man wrestling with the contradictions of his lifestyle and his faith, as well as his responsibilities as a role model. Stanley does a good job of conveying this, sharing both his positive and heartbreaking memories, and giving the reader a glimpse of the incredible road he walked to find his way to Christ. A brief but honest account, and a good afternoon read for those who are interested in knowing how deeply (and surprisingly) Elvis impacted those around him. The memoir serves to remind us that even in our brokenness, we are capable of pointing the way home.
