Okay, I'm not sure that I read the same book as everyone else that gave it all these five star reviews. For one, a lot of the characters made no sense to me. Their actions made no sense to me. For instance we start out with Trent saying he's thinking about having sex with Nicole because she turns him on so much and she's the one who can get him off so well but then he turns right around and says how sexy Kendra is and how much he loves her. Um... did I miss something? I didnt understand the purpose of going into Kendra's background of her being a stripper so extensively when it had nothing to do with the story ultimately. Her beef with Candy... what was the purpose of it because it had nothing to do with the main drama in the book.
Admittedly, I skipped a lot of pages. It just seemed so trivial and plot driven instead of character driven. Now to be fair, the book did pick up with a great amount of action towards the end. That being said, there was no pay off. We dont get to see a big show down between Trent and Wiz over Kendra. There's no "you used my girl against me" type of conversation. NOTHING. We dont get to see any interaction between Nicole and Trent in regard to revenge. I mean she shoots him. He doesnt get to say anything or call her any names for the way she was trying to get at him. She just finds him and shoots him. I mean, I expected some type of conversation about what happened. But no. Instead, the author opted for some surprise ending with the sister which to me was totally out of context and character. That particular bomb being dropped was not shocking or necessary. I didnt really care that the sister betrayed Kendra because the story wasnt based around their relationship. Yes, they seemed close but my attention wasnt really on Kendra and her sister. So when the author dropped the "you've been betrayed" bomb, I didnt care. I was like ugh, really? Then Wiz' mom coming for Kendra. Who cares? The mom wasnt even in the story then just magically shows up at the end. And that's the dirtiest revenge? I wasnt convinced. I liked the action and drama between Trent and Kendra; Kendra and Wiz; Wiz and Trent; Trent and Nicole. But the tying up of loose ends was mediocre at best because the author tried to go for shock value rather than developing the triangles she'd already spent so much time building.
This could have been an exceptionally good book had she put more thought into it. It seems a little rushed and like her ideas were all over the place.
Final rating:
3.5 stars- this is for the action, and the sheer will to write a book
