Yola Miller Sigerson was a dynamic and multifaceted creative force whose career spanned seven decades. Born in 1917, she contributed her talents to a wide range of artistic and political projects. She began as a researcher on the Federal Theatre Project and went on to work as a lighting designer for The Original Ballet Russe and on Broadway. She also served as a stage manager and lighting designer for major live events, many of which supported progressive causes—from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s re-election campaigns to World War II Victory Bonds, Russian War Relief, and the Holocaust memorial production We Will Never Die, often staged at venues such as Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl. Beyond her stage work, she also pursued interior design and wrote biographies and memoirs. Known for her generosity, strong opinions, sense of joy, and boundless optimism, she remained intellectually engaged and deeply devoted to her extended family. Her greatest love was her husband of 47 years, Richard Sigerson.
