A high-priced thief who can’t turn down a challenge. A cocky, young mage whose power has caught the attention of the local Mage-Lord. A royal scribe who stands on the brink of an imperial invasion.
Three people whose fates hang in the balance at a point of no return…

Jacquelyn Smith is a Canadian author from the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario, where apologies are a regular part of most social interactions, and the second ‘T’ in ‘Toronto’ is definitely silent. (Sorry.)
Jacquelyn originally published several of the earlier titles in the Kira Brightwell series under the pen name Kat Irwin before she finally decided to kill Kat off in an effort to eliminate the many awkward questions about having a second identity.
When spending time in the real world, Jacquelyn lives with her husband Mark, and their feline owner Xena, who is definitely a warrior princess.
Nice! I liked this collection; each story was better than the last.
The Unclean - 3 stars: This reminded me of Aesop's Fables, with a predictable "moral of the story" type ending.
The God's Eye - 4 stars: I liked the main character, and would love to see her in a novel or series of her own. Unfortunately, the cliche in the final scene tarnished this story, a little, for me.
Wayward Scribe - 5 stars: This was my favorite of the group! While the main character couldn't carry a novel on his own, I would love to see another anthology with stories containing similar acts of cunning and justice. It would be cool if he could make an appearance or two, as well.
