Tom Cleverly is an author of dark fantasy that transports readers to magical worlds filled with adventure, danger, and mystery. His stories are known for their intriguing characters and intense battle scenes.

Cleverly’s love of fantasy began at a young age when he first discovered the works of J. R. R. Tolkien and RA Salvatore. He spent countless hours exploring the imaginary realms of Middle-earth and Menzoberranzean and was inspired to create his own magical worlds as a Gamemaster and a writer.

Tom’s love of fantasy extends beyond his writing. In his free time, he can often be found travelling and exploring the outdoors, seeking inspiration for his work. Cleverly is also an avid gamer, with a particular fondness for strategy and roleplaying games.

After finishing his studies in history and psychology at the university, Cleverly wrote and published several books in the historical fiction genre. In 2019, he began working on his first fantasy novel, An Assassin’s Vengeance, portraying the hazardous adventures of an elven assassin and a young sorceress.

Fans of Tom’s work can look forward to many more exciting adventures in the years to come as he continues to push the boundaries of fantasy fiction and captivate readers with his vivid imagination and deft storytelling.

Tom Cleverly trivia:

- As a kid, Tom was kidnapped on holiday in Africa.

- Tom is terrified of bees after involuntarily trapping one in his underwear in the summer of 2003. The experience was even worse for the bee.

- In his twenties, Tom won the regional floorball championship. Not alone, of course, but his team won and Tom contributed.

- Tom is a terrible dancer. As a teenager, he was punched in the face by a stranger who insisted he danced like a… female body part.

Exciting Dark Fantasy!

I am going to begin this review by admitting I did not read the first book, An Assassin’s Vengeance. Due to this, I believe there are a few things I missed out on, like how the characters met and became friends. However, that being said, I was more than able to follow along. I didn’t have any kind of problems with the world building as things were either explained as the story progressed, or self-evident. One of the things I really enjoyed about this story is none of the characters were either good, or bad, but a mixture of both, which made the story a lot more interesting. I can’t wait to see how this all ends for Gilmir and the Dark Elves.

Shadow of the Dark Elf (Mage & Assassin Book 2), my second read from first time author Tom Cleverly, 271-pages of epic fantasy. When I want to read epic fantasy I first look for author Christopher Mitchell and now I include Tom Cleverly in that search. I look forward to reading more from this author. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Now I need to find a place to leave reviews for An Assassin's Fall and Igniting the Flame, two other books by Cleverly that I can't find a place to leave reviews. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

This was an absolutely fantastic story, Wow, it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat. This was incredible. I read the first book in this series and that was some kind of amazing! But I was glad to see the story get even better in the second book. The characters were written so clearly that it made it totally easy to fall inside this story. I was entranced for hours, I couldn't put it down, so I didn't! Fantastic book and I can't wait for the next one in this series.

With a story within a story, Shadow of the Dark Elf tells an intriguing tale. The tension between Zekatar and Ada hints at interesting things to come. As the tale unfolded, I found myself wondering who the real bad guy was.

I would have given the story more stars but in many places the narrative felt forced to me and pulled me from the story.

Shadow of the Dark Elf

The promise implied in book 1 is more than fulfilled. Book 2 hardly gives you pause to catch your breath, the pace is exciting and thrilling with short interludes of seeming calm.
Tom Cleverly has written a masterpiece drawing together the threads from book 1 and weaving them into a spell binding and captivating tale.

Wow!! This second book is even better than the first book. I was so caught up in it the next thing I knew I was finished with it. The story had so much action and twists and turns it kept me glued to the edge of my chair. With well developed characters and his amazing world building skills, Tom Cleverly made me feel a part of the story. I absolutely recommend reading this series.

The first book was great. I gave it 5 stars. I had high hopes for this book, but was disappointed. I felt the book was lacking and written just for filler. A build up for the next book.

Maybe for other readers, this will be their book. Not for me as I found that it reads like a journal of accounts from different parties.

I found it long to read and had to skip pages to see if the story would pickup and call to me.

Mind you, I love to read about Elves , paranormals and supernatural of all types but this one lacks the drive to not stop reading until the book is finished.

This is my opinion and the book could interest other type of readers. The most I can rate this book is 2 Stars.

Good Story for getting away and into fantasy!
Gilmir and Hobble have an adventure, that made me want to be able to see where they were. It was well written for younger readers and lovers of fantasy all around.
It was intriguing how the vampires were introduced, and what became of that.
I am rating it as a 4-star as it could have been more inclusive of the story instead of like a manual.
Thank you, Tom Cleverly for a good story.
I received a complimentary copy of this story, and this is my honest review.

Gilmir and his companions encounter lots of unpredictable moments. The book will draw you in from page one. Great characters and is a real page-turner. If you enjoy magic, elves, dwarfs, and of course humans this is a book to read.
