Selene Haddad works for Naiad Novels, the hottest serialized fiction app on the market, tasked with writing never-ending romance stories. It’s a dream job, minus one aspect of it—having to work alongside Daniel Santiago, the company’s disgustingly charming acquisitions manager…and the man who screwed her out of a massive payday.
Selene is certain nothing will ever change how she feels about Daniel, but when a dare at Naiad’s annual holiday party leads to them falling into bed together, she starts to discover that maybe he’s not so bad—if she can look past their professional differences.
She may have written it a thousand times, but even in real life there’s a very thin line between love and hate.
this book spãñked me hard, rãilêd me raw and left me prëgnænt 🤰🏻
the first line should be a selling point and by now you should have bought the book 🙄🤚
listen to me, there are books that are hot. and then there are books that are SIZZLING HOT. work for it falls into the second category 😮💨 if you leila claiming that it is lil' spicy, don't fall for her words because this book is wreck your kitty fictitiously (is this even the actual phrase?)
i ate this book up and left no crumbs. leila's writing is addictive af and i believe you're missing something in your life if you haven't read her books 🫠
i fell in love with selene way before she was even introduced to me properly. and i believe if she was real or i was fictional, then we'd have been besties 🙇🏻♀️ and i totally understand the urge for her to punch daniel. hell even i wanted to punch him at certain times and was totally rooting for my girl to do it on my behalf. legit sent a voice note to the author out of frustration but since i am tiny lil' sweetheart (sometimes), i forgave him in nano seconds 🥰
selene and daniel's chemistry is totally off the chart 🔥 i was fanning myself the entire time i read this book and i even reached to the point where i almost bought myself a toy off amazon 🗿 we all deserve a man like daniel santiago whose smile is enough to melt off our eggs 😮💨
oh and did i mention that this book is about the business of writing romance and getting happy endings? yes you read it right so do me a favour and BUY THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW 🔪
thank you leila for sending me an arc of WORK FOR IT. can't wait to eat your next book 😩🫶🏻
I definitely had to “put in that work” to get through this book.
This is one of those no plot all smut. They work in the same office, and she’s always hated him. Until she doesn’t. The smut is the hottest/best thing about this, but I just couldn’t guys. He wasn’t doing it for me otherwise. I felt like he said 5 words the entire book. I’m sad it didn’t work for me lol.
I don't know what I could say to do this book justice, but if these don't convince you to read it, I dont know what will •workplace romance •enemies to lovers •REPRESENTATION!!!! Selene is of Arab descent, and Daniel is Latino •super steamy, filled with tension •slow burn ish
I got the ARC whilst packing to leave uni for the summer, so I wasn't able to read more than a couple of chapters. but I got home and finished this book SO QUICK. literally cannot remember the last time I got through a book this quick! UGH, SO GOOD. I am already dying for a reread ( I might just have to right now, actually)
Okay, so I'm giving this a 4.5 stars, but quite literally, the only reason is because I WANT MORE OF DANIEL AND SELENE! I wanted to see everything that happens in between the last chapter and the epilogue😩 Regardless, if you're a sucker for a good steamy romance and a super easy read, this is the perfect book!
I am, again, obsessed with this book. It's quite literally the best debut, and I am beyong excited (and slightly impatient) to have the physical copy on my bookshelf🤩
To Miss Author, I love you. I love your work. I am beyond proud of you and cannot wait to see what comes next for you🤍
The only thing good about this book was the smut, and the MMC’s dirty talk and his ability to make the FMC orgasm were his only redeeming qualities. I know I leave my feminism out the door when I read certain types of books, but it’s never for an MMC who is sexist and misogynistic beyond words
This was all smut and no plot, it was fine at first but it got really boring at around 45%. They literally had no chemistry as a couple and babe was on her knees for him almost immediately despite him sabotaging her for most of the book. The romance was so stupid, he treated her like shit but apparently it was his way of “flirting” and she was the oblivious one 🙄 this man needs to learn how to talk cause I swear he didn’t say a single memorable thing. Also he went on a date with someone else and ghosted her after sleeping together and she just brushed it off bc nothing romantic happened?
This is among the best hate to love stories I've read. And Daniel Santiago is just HOT without really trying. Yes, it's hot when a man pursues a woman JUST to the point that he's too shy to take it just that bit further so that she has no doubt she's being pursued. The best stories are the ones where the author creates leads and moments that sizzle through the page! If you want spice, this is the one!
I just loved this book, I love their chemistry and banter and they just click so well. The end just feels a bit rushed, so I wish it would have been a bit longer, to get the appropriate reaction from friends, family etc.
A deliciously spicy (but also sweet!) enemies-to-lovers romance. One of my favourite tropes brought to life in this story. Selene and Daniel have my heart.
E-ARC REVIEW ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 STARS This the 4th time I have read this book and let me tell you it's never boring. NEVER. I found out about this book when it was ongoing on Wattpad (yes, i was one of the people who begged for more updates weekly). And I'm so freaking happy that it's being published now!!
~MAIN CHARACTERS ~ 🧍🏻♀️- Selene I absolutely love Selene, she's everything i love in a FMC. The strong minded, kind, but doesn't take shit from anyone type. And i absolutely love oblivious FMC trope and Selene was perfect!
🧍🏽♂️- Daniel Daniel is the good kind of douche. Like, will you hate him at first? Maybe. But will you fall in love with him alongside the FMC when you get to know him? Absolutely! I love how he treated Selene and what he did for her!!
~THINGS I LOVE ABOUT THE BOOK ~(aside from the characters)
🌼 The lack of thrid act breakup and how Daniel communicated with Selene at the end. 🌼The smut obviously!! 🌼The little phrases that Daniel will slip during spicy time 🌼When the pet name (mi amore) transitioned from insulting to loving 🫨 🌼 TAKES HER ON A BOOKSTORE DATE!!!! like why is this man no real???? 🌼Many many more.
I REALLY WANTED A FEW CHAPTERS IN DANIEL'S POV AND WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED WHEN I SAW THAT MUCH LIKE THE WATTPAD VERSION IT DIDN'T HAVE ANY. PLEASE ADD SOME BONUS CHAPTERS IN DANIEL'S POV!! OTHERWISE I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE BOOK.
~TROPES~ 💣 Enemies to loverssssss 💣 Workplace romance 💣He falls first 💣 Oblivious FMC 💣 Latino MMC
~ Favourite highlights ~ ⚠️⚠️⚠️ SPOILERS (MAYBE)⚠️⚠️⚠️ 🐞“Hi, Selene.” My name rolls off his tongue smoother than I’ve heard anyone ever say. His voice is low and deep, but it’s his accent that does it.
🐞“Steal all of my time , if you want,” he says, extending his free arm like he’s beckoning me to him. “Come find me when you’re ready.”
🐞He nods and leans forward in his chair, forearms on his solid thighs as he stares me down like I’m the only person in the room.
{THIS *MIGHT* BE MY FAVOURITE QUOTE FROM THIS BOOK} 🐞“Cállate, Selene. Let me hate you.”
🐞“You’re brilliant,” he murmurs, dipping his head so I can’t avoid his gaze. “Don’t let anyone tell you differently.”
🐞“There. That’s my girl.”
🐞“Bésame,” he murmurs as he lets go. He hovers over my mouth, close enough that one subtle move would bring our lips together again. “Don’t make me work for it.”
🐞“Regretting that yet? I’m annoying and expensive.”“Good thing I like both those parts of you.”
🐞I’m 100 percent in love with Daniel Santiago. (SAME GURL)

This was a gorgeous read! I absolutely adored the writing style and the setting of the story. As a romance writer myself, Selene's job hit all the right notes. I loved her monologues about her job and the enemies to lovers banter was top notch. All that hate f**king was 🥵! I did think that Daniel was a jerk for most of the book and wished there was more grovelling from his side. Selene forgave him very easily. He deserved more hell for how he treated her 😡.
But the spice was...oh so spicy! My smutty brain ate this up in a few hours.
HISPANIC MMC??? SAY LESS. This book was giving all the workplace romance I was craving.. The secret looks, the office hookups, the banter, the laughs, the passion. WHAT MORE COULD I ASK FOR? not to mention this book saved me from a 6 month reading slump. And i’m ready to read more of her books 🔥🔥
This book deserves all five stars. When I tell you it was just so much fun to read! The chemistry between Daniel and Selene is just off the charts! My man literally had me screaming and throwing my legs up like a damn blushing girl. Honestly five stars alone for that damn mouth. The author did a wonderful job exploring their relationship and angst was just * chef's kiss*. I really like the representation in this book, it did not feel forced which I really appreciated. AND MA'AM DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THE SPICE- I had no business liking it that much, it was seriously the best I've read. now let me show you what I mean “I was wrong,” I gasp as he leans back and grins sharply up at me, my wetness glistening on his full lower lip. “ You do hate me.”
Ugh seriously this book was so GOOD!😩 Finally a 5 star read for me!🥹 Let me tell you I’m a sucker for workplace romance and enemies to lovers?! Sign me up!🤭 This isn’t a typical workplace romance because Daniel and Selene are really enemies and the tension they had have me chokehold😩😩
I remember reading this on wattpad and I cannot believe it’ll be published as a physical book soon! I’m so proud of the author and this book deserves to be loved and enjoyed by everyone🥹🫶🏻 Daniel really knows his way to talk to a woman because holy😮💨😮💨😮💨 he’s so hot omg and the spicy scenes?! I’m living for it!
This is basically a reread for me and ultimately became one of my favourite books in Wattpad and obviously I’m going to buy my own paperback 🤭 This was such a good slow burn workplace romance and oml a Spanish mmc who loves his family and respect women?😩😩😩 Selene is such a gorgeous and independent woman and I totally relate her in many ways!
I already had high expectations for my reread but after rereading it, it made me want to have my own workplace romance in the future! 🫶🏻 Such a good book, I don’t want to end it!😭 I cannot wait for Leila’s more books to come and she wrote such a brilliant book for a debut author!💗
Reasons why you need to read Work For It: ✅ Steamy scenes that will get you on chokehold ✅ A hot mmc that will make you obsessed ✅ The sexual tension between them is impeccable ✅ Workplace romance + Spice + Humor
Set against the bustling backdrop of New York City, Selene Haddad works for Naiad Novels - a popular serialized fiction app. Despite loving her job and writing (spicy) romance for a living, she can’t say the same about her infuriating co-worker: Daniel Santiago. Their contentious history and unresolved animosity add an extra layer of tension to Selene's work environment. Deciding to place their professional differences aside for one night, Selena discovers they’ve got chemistry and there might be more to Daniel than meets the eye.
Now this was a REAL rivals to lovers workplace romance that I’ve been itching for. This was a solid debut by Leila Burnes and I cannot praise her enough for it. She feed me a spicy millennial workplace romance that has a forbidden romance. The banter between Selene, her co-workers and Daniel is witty and hilarious. Originally, I absolutely despised Daniel. He was a blunt asshole to Selene and you can’t help but hate the man but softly, he does redeem himself throughout the book. The spice was good and Daniel definitely knows what he’s doing. Not to mention, the poking of fun of serialized fiction stories that are very trope heavy was fantastic. Overall, this has quickly become a favourite and will be quickly snatching a copy upon release.
This book has; 🗽New York galore 💖 rivals to lovers 🔥 a forbidden romance 👀 lots of steamy scenes (I give Daniel a five star rating) 👩🏻💻 workplace banter & POC characters (!!!)
Now I am a sucker for romance. But this enemies-to-lovers, workplace, steamy romance had me in a chokehold. It will forever have me in a chokehold and wanting to read it all over again. YEP I FOUND ANOTHER BOOK I’LL KEEP READING OVER AND OVER AGAIN 😜
It had me laughing, screaming internally and pulling poker faces I haven’t pulled in years when I was reading this in public.
Leila’s debut novel is something I will keep coming back to for so many reasons.
The hot male mc that has me questioning whether men like him exist - tick ✅
A gorgeous, strong, independent, resilient female mc who has a lingerie obsession just like me - tick ✅
Hot, steamy scenes that have me questioning my own love life - big fat tick ✅
But honestly, let me tell you something!! This book is just Chef’s kiss and I am so glad it’s published.
Leila is a godsend with this. Her talent is just absolutely amazing and mind-blowing. I found myself not only relating to Selene but picturing myself as her.
AND THE REPRESENTATION!! I applaud you and salute you, Leila. Some writers feel the need to make it obvious when it comes to representation but Leila does it in such a subtle way you find yourself smiling to yourself when you see that rep.
Now… imma go back and read this book again. And I will probably keep reading it until I die 😁
So! 5 stars? Yep! High expectations? In the freaking sky! Happy reader? Abso-goddamn-lutely! Hotel? trivago! Okay can’t wait for more books from this series thank you byeeeeee
I absolutely devoured this book!! The chemistry between Daniel and Selene is off the charts, I couldn’t stop grinning the entire time, and of course fanning myself when things got spicy - and they did get very spicy 🥵 I was drawn in from the get go, because who doesn’t love an enemies-to-lovers trope with sexy POCs and filthy filthy words 😂 Work for it is the perfect pace, with each chapter actually contributing to the storyline instead of just filling up the space. They are my faves!!
In Leila Burne's workplace romance Work For It, salesman Daniel Santiago and smut author Selene Haddad are the main characters. Before I begin my review, I want to express how proud I am of Leila because she went from publishing this book on Wattpad to physically publishing this book.
Leila definitely has a knack for writing good banter, plus she knows damn well how to make hate talk attractive. Daniel's conversations with Selene during the smut scenes were hot asf. Selene and Daniel had such a strong chemistry in general.
Though I did not like how Selene was so hellbent on staying away from Daniel, but of course she was “weak” when it came to him, because she always seemed to give in to him.
I have a love-hate connection with this book overall because, in the space of a minute, I can go from loving their interactions to hating how patronizing Daniel was.
*Thank you to the author Leila Burnes, for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.*
4.5⭐ A spicy workplace and, an enemies-to-lovers romance that had me swooning the entire time 😍. Daniel and Selene's chemistry is through the roof! It reminded me of The Hating Game so much and I just loved it as much. It is humorous, spicy as hell and just so amazingly written.

4.5⭐ I had read this book before when it was a Wattpad story. If I loved it then, I LOVED it even more now.
Selene & Daniel have the perfect chemistry we all bookworms want to read about. They have the perfect spice and sweet moments that we all love.
A book about books, enemies to lovers, and office romance, if this isn't a combination of success then I don't know what is.
An infinity of stars for this book, one of my top favourite reads of this year, that left overwhelmed (in a the best way) by how much I adored, loved and enjoyed this story 🖤
Let me start by saying how great and smooth Leila's writing is, this is a true haters to lovers romance and I loved that we were given a legitimate reason for the hate and how the relationship between Selene and Daniel started from a one night stand and it evolved. This book has a fast burn smut, the main characters truly set flames to the pages by how hot they are together. The romance, however, was a sweet sweet slow burn and and I am here for it! I liked the fact that the characters weren't shy from admitting what they want and what they think when it came to their wants and also feelings.
I loved that even though the plot of this book takes place throughout almost a whole year, it reads as a fast paced one. A page turned since the beginning, once I started reading I couldn't stop (only did for work and I hated that lol)
I really cannot express how well done every aspect in this book!
Daniel Santiago... This man is definitely a character swooning was invented for. He is so freaking hot, sweet (but hides this behind a cold exterior) and really funny!! he had grinning, laughing, and kicking my legs swooning throughout the whole book! He is a gentleman who will go after what he wants no matter what, and what he wants is Selene Haddad and he does what ever it takes to win this stubborn woman over (body and heart).
Selene, first let me just start by saying how much I enjoyed reading about an Arab character, one I can truly relate to (especially her hot arab blood). Selene's strength and her being sure and proud of the person she is and where she comes from are admirable. I also loved how she spoke up for what she wants and never hesitated to speak her mind. And even when she was trying to protect herself from heartbreak and pain she didn't shy away from what she desired and was unapologetic to go after her own HEA and believing that the love and romance she writes about can also happen in real life.
I was living for the banter between these two and I even teared up reading some scenes at the end because it just was so sweet and emotional! One of my favourite parts of this book was their first official date 📚😍
ALSO LOOOOVED that there was no third act break up!
This story is one I will definitely be recommending all the time 😌 This book is definitely a MUST read for all haters to lovers romance fans!!
so very well written and the each of the characters were so lovely to read about, and easy to engage with. however, i felt like the ending was very sudden and there was no wind down, and i felt that they deserved a much better ending to their story. also, could have definitely made it longer and more engaging in some places (meeting more of the family, or the friends reaction to them dating etc), but i loved it all the same. it was a very fun read and easily one of my favourites read this month!
This book is so good! This is what a good enemies-to-lovers spicy romance should be like.
A good slow burn but not to the point where you think characters are dumb and want to throw your phone out, just perfect. The perfect amount of balance between the spice and the butterflies inducing, heart clenching romance along with good character development.
I have already read this twice and I can read this again and again.
I read a good book on Wattpad for so long and the fact that it's on Kindle now makes me so happy. This book and the author deserves all the reach it can get.
