Three weeks together. Two broken hearts shadowed in grief. One large secret that is about to be released.
Sofya
I never wanted to come back to this city, let alone stay. Not after what happened with Daniel. But after a flight delay, I hooked up with a stranger in the airport public restroom. I should have never seen him again, but when he shows up to dinner as the best man in my best friend's wedding, things get hot and dangerous. Liam's secrets go beyond that of typical baggage. They include gangs, lies, and violence. But for some reason I cannot let go. Now secretsI didn't know about my city and my ex are coming out. Secrets that could get me killed for knowing.
Liam
I was inches from getting out from under the thumb of my father, leader of the Red Widow Crew. With what he has over me I don't think I will ever be able to leave. I am a beacon for destruction and death, all those around me suffer because of it. I vowed to never let what happened to Laila happen again. But when my father threatens Sofya, I vow to keep her safe and to end him. But will it end me in the process?
4.5 ⭐️ I was so close to 5⭐️ on this one. I absolutely loved it. This is a dark mafia romance with forced proximity, a little touch her and die and a whole lot of mine!
This was a slow build that had me screaming wtf at certain parts! I loved the dynamic between Sophia and Liam and how they lived separate lives but also connected in a deeper way that someone else wouldn’t understand. They subconsciously trams bonded with one another and it was so satisfying to read!
This story quickly hooks you in with a super spicy scene right off the bat. Each of the main characters though keep you invested, trying to piece together their back story and what happened to them individually. Slowly, they turn from hot hookups trying to distract themselves from their pasts to more. The secrets that come out at the end will have you gasping and wanting more. I can't wait for the rest of the Red Widow Crew stories!
i received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Missed Connections is a dark mafia romance with lots of spice! I really liked the story line and the two main characters, Sofya and Liam. I would check TWs before reading, but if you love forced proximity, second love, and touch her and you die —then this book is for you!
I cant wait to see where the story goes, and for the next book about Kai and Audry! ♥️
So this was actually a good book, and I love that they reunited at the airport in the end. But realistically, there’s a few gaps, like if James/Simon was on the inside, why on earth did he not help sooner? And didn’t Kai also want out, how did he allow for everything to end in his name? Additionally, as the book says these are two souls that shared pain, they found comfort in using each other, once the adrenaline wears off, I’ll give it 6 months - 1 year. 3.5 ⭐️
The Book was actually better than I thought. The spicy is *chefs kiss*, the angst isn’t too heavy and the plot in general is pleasurable without being overly mainstream. I love the fact that the main characters have theirs strengths and weaknesses, and they display them, without resulting as whiny or as unrealistically strong.
This was a nice change of pace and surprisingly emotional, dark-ish, romance read. I loved the opening and ending chapters so much. The story is unique and spicy. If you enjoy books with a gang member MMC who takes on his father who is not a good guy, check this out. It deals with suicide and grief as well. Overall I really enjoyed this book and do recommend.
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next book in the series.
Sofya and Liam have a similar trauma and are trying their best to just make it and then meet each other in her hometown at the airport. Circumstances can not keep them apart.
ARC Review - I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was a good read. There is a very strong theme of grief in this novel, which I personally felt a bit disconnected from. This is also my first second love read, so the trope might not be for me. If you enjoy the trope, I'm sure you'll like it! I still enjoyed the book despite this.
I found the pacing a bit slow in the beginning, but it really picked up steam about halfway through! I finished the last 50% of the book in one sitting. There were some good twists, and at times, I definitely gasped out loud 😅
Overall, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it! I'm looking forward to the next novel in the series.
I picked this book up at Books Gowns and Crowns and it was one of my favorites! The perfect amount of spice, mafia bad boys, and thrilling tension! Going to the airport will never be the same!
Can two people who share similar trauma and pain from their past relationships use each other to work through their grief? I must say, I had to look to my left and right as I started reading “Missed Connections” by A.D. Marie to ensure there wasn’t a screen creeper nearby. But author A.D. Marie got that spice working right away. I knew this was on the right track when the first “good girl” was dished out.
Liam (MMC) is described as rather cutthroat and violent and will always thrive on the mafia lifestyle no matter what, yet he is still a bit of a vigilante. He has quite a contentious relationship with his father and wants out of the mafia world. Liam is struggling with getting through his last relationship and has become
Similarly, Sofya (FMC) is experiencing trauma from a three-year-long relationship that has left her despondent. She’s in the stage where she wants to move on yet doesn’t know how — hanging on to old memories and still feeling attached and ashamed for wanting what she cannot have.
When Sofya and Liam are together, they are on fire! As these two characters struggle with the impact their past relationships have left behind, readers will also get snippets of both their pasts interweaved throughout the story. I liked how A.D. Marie did the past and present times within the chapters. I’ve always found it confusing when the past and present are their chapters.
I’m excited to learn that more will come in Red Widow Crew Series with the other characters.
I received a copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received this book as an ARC and I was so excited to read it! Right from the start things are very spicy for the main characters and that does continue for a bit, which is nice! As you get further into the story though the amount of spice does drop off quite a bit :( The writing is pretty decent and there are quite a few twists, turns, and nuances to the plot that are unexpected. It was, overall, a good, quick read that provided entertainment, but I would have given it a higher rating if the plot and characters had more depth to them. The story also could've used used a more even distribution of the smut that we all love and crave. It seems to be piled in the first half of the book, leaving the second half to tie up all other loose ends in the story and slightly rush the conclusion. It does end in a cliffhanger which lets the reader know very clearly that there is more to come for the series, but the cliffhanger itself is a little disappointing in regards to the shock factor of it. The next book in the series is centered around a different FMC/MMC combo which is nothing new but it does through me quite a bit that it takes place prior to the storyline in Missed Connections (which as we know is the first book in the series).
Overall the book is a good, enjoyable read and I can't wait to see how the author grows in future novels! Thank you so much for trusting me with an advanced copy of your work and it is truly valued! I look forward to continuing our work together in the future! :)
Man, there is some hot spice in this book! 🥵I mean it opens up with Sofya and Liam getting a little more than hot and heavy in an airport bathroom. Liam is a Dom in the bedroom and his muscled, tattooed self could take me any day 😏 * “You are going to learn to obey, Sofya. You are going to learn that I control your pleasure.” * This is a dark romance but not when it comes to Liam and Sofya’s relationship. He’s the king of consent and makes sure that she’s okay with everything he does, gives her a safe word, and honors it. * “I want to protect you.” Liam said. “And if I don’t want your protection?” I asked. “You will do as told, regardless.” He paused, leaning into me. The heat of his breath tickled my neck. “Like a good girl.” * I rated it four stars because there were a few behaviors by Liam and his dad Samuel that seemed outside of behavior I would expect from Mafia members. But if this isn’t something that normally throws you out of a story, you’ll love this book!
There were a lot of flashbacks in this book but they were usually no longer than a page long which helped them flow into the story as it progressed.
The end completes Liam and Sofya’s storyline while opening another cliffhanger for a secondary character.
This action packed mafia romance has a unique twist. Sofya and Liam are two broken hearts who have suffered loss. They hook up in an airport hoping to lose themselves for a few minutes. Sofya, to forget the loss of her fiancé, and Liam the loss of his girlfriend and his attempt to get out of the family business.
They never had the intention of seeing each other again. However, fate had other plans.
Sofya and Liam do meet up again when they realize their best friends are getting married. They have another wild night together with no strings attached. However, they keep getting thrown into each other’s paths and their spicy hook ups continue. Plus, you add in Liam’s father who is forcing him to continue the family business and threatens Sofya.
There were many twists and turns in this story with both characters dealing with family drama. Secrets and Iies are revealed which lead them learning they have a shared history. Will this destroy their budding relationship or bring them closer together?
I felt for both characters and the pain they went through. This added layer of feeling to the action of the world of organized crime kept me hooked from page one. This is the first time I have read this author’s work, and I cannot wait to read the next book in the Red Widow Crew series.
This book was great! I felt there was a perfect mix of spice as well as the story line. One thing I really enjoy is the fact that each character got to process and live out their grief. In some stories they glide over a characters ghost of a past and she didn’t do that here. Both Liam and Sofya had trauma to live through and they did. They lost someone they loved and they were looking for ways to escape that. Also let’s talk about the spice, if someone like Liam met me at an airport and I was single, well call me Sofya. Their sex was hot and intense but also led to so much vulnerability that I lovedddd. They needed to use each other to overcome their own trauma and in doing that laid themselves bare to the other person. Overall this book was amazing and I can’t wait to read more from the author! I would highly recommend this read to anyone, who enjoys dark romance. There are heavy scenes involved but if you read the triggers and are prepared it’s worth it! Also thank you to A.D. Marie for picking me as an ARC reader❤️

This book was SUPER spicy… literally had spice on the very first page! The book is basically mafia dark romance, with a whole lot of trigger warnings that you should make sure you’re comfortable with prior to reading (the list of warnings are towards the front of the book). Most of the book was pretty good in my opinion, but I’m not sure if the one on KU was fully edited as there were a bunch of mistakes and it’s so hard for me to read a book if there’s more than a few mistakes 🥲 I felt like the plot was also kind of rushed but hey, mafias don’t take their time 😂 The spice also drops off quite a bit towards the end but I’d say the characters had other pressing issues. I did put Adelaide’s second book of this series (Red Widow Crew Series) into my TBR as I loved the characters from the first book that are in the main characters in the second book!
Are you ready for the ride of a lifetime? Buckle up.... but it won't be on a plane.
Warning: this review contains a lot of puns.
Missed Connections is a contemporary Mafia Romance with a content warning list so long, you'll want some water to quench the thirst.
A.D. Marie introduces two flawed characters with their own challenges (PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, and more) and throws them together in unprecedented scenarios.
I'm talking bathrooms. Parks. Hotel rooms. Do you catch my drift? If not, sorry... I don't know enough about the mile-high club so I'm kinda winging it.
There are some heavy themes in this book, and as a reader who does not cry easily when reading, I found myself tearing up. I sympathized with both POVs increasingly as the book went on. I screamed during their arguments, cried during flashbacks, and rooted for them when all odds were against them.
This book is not for the faint of heart, but the story inside is so deep and impactful that I know it's going to impact readers in a positive way. Beyond the sex and drugs, there's a story about trying to escape a dark destiny that they can't evade, a haunting love story that takes work to build up, and a dark past for both POVs that they won't be able to overcome easily.
If you like dark romance, you will like this book. If you like mafia, especially, you will LOVE this book. Oh, and the spice?
Liam and Sofya are both healing from losing their significant others and hook up in an airport restroom, thinking they’d never see each other again.
It turns out their best friends are marrying each other so they keep booking up during the planning process. Liam is trying to break away from his fathers crew and make his own, legitimate way in life.
Sofya has been living a shell of a life since her fiancé died from what she thinks is suicide based on the note she found from him. Her mother is awful at best and all she needs is a way to shut down her brain. Which explains her continued interest in Liam.
The spice in this book had me melting in my chair! Liam takes charge and helps Sofya feel alive for the first time in a year.
Let’s skip any introductions and get straight down to business, just like this book – who needs introductions when things get steamy with a stranger in an airport bathroom on the very first page…
Sofya and Liam meet by chance but are bought back together by the fact that their best friends are marrying one another. They are drawn to one another, and their chemistry is on fire.
It’s a dark romance (it is mafia, after all) but the relationship between Sofya and Liam is more than what happens in the bedroom (or bathroom, or woods). They are both flawed in their own way, but together they are healing from their past and moving forward.
There is of course an amazing, action-packed plot that runs through the entire book, but if you’re looking for spice, you don’t need to look any further.
Summary: Received this one as an ARC, along with my friend who read it as well. This was my first time reading a dark mafia romance and in terms of that - it was fun! This starts off VERY spicy but less so towards the mid-end of the book which was a bit disappointing, given the plot fell pretty flat. I didn't have high expectations but the first half of the book was a lot more intriguing, whereas the second half felt like the author was focusing on wrapping up plot points quickly. Which I would've enjoyed more if there was more of the spice we got towards the beginning of the book! This book could've benefited with more character description, less typos (minor), more spicy scenes, and more realistic dialogue.
Misery loves it's company applies in this story. Two grief stricken people meet, hook up only to find their lives connected through friends. Liam is the dark, mysterious man with a dark past and Sofya is just doing her best to find the will to want to go on. If this book has your interest, please please pleeaassee read the trigger warnings. A.D. Marie even states in the beginning to check because your mental health is worth it. And can I just say, I hold absolute respect for them acknowledging this. I adored this book. They used little flashbacks to keep me pulled in just to see what was next. The spice was just right and had a solid storyline. Every time the going got good the author pulled back some just to add a little more darkness. If you like a spicy read with dark themes I definitely recommend this book for you!
Overall I really loved this book. I have sat here for the last 4 hours on my couch binging it, the plot along with the plot twists were amazing.
You definitely don’t have to wait for the spice, but the emotional connection is a slow burn for sure. I did notice a few typos, but they weren’t drastic enough to distract from the book.
DEFINITELY check trigger warnings, everybody has different limits and triggers and this book can hit close to home.
I also loved the dom/sun aspect during the spicy scenes 😩 some books tend to make bdsm into some off the wall type stuff (50 shades 👀) but this book is the most realistic I’ve read when it comes to that. Loved it! And I can’t wait for the next one
Who needs to say hello - when you can share a quick and intimate moment in the bathroom at your local airport?
Despite the brief spicy scene at the beginning of the story. The romance is a slow burn as the characters grow closer and get to know each other.
I appreciate the author adding the actual visual image of the text messages. It makes for a clean and clear understanding!
Kai was one of my favorite characters beyond the main characters.
On page 220 - I loved that the author keeps the realistic aspects of the story. Soyfa questions everything, the lifestyle, and if she genuinely wants to be a part of it.
The character and plot progression, even the transitions from chapter to chapter was immaculate! 🖤
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review (though I'm very late posting this).
With Missed Connections you get exactly what you expect. A.D. Marie wastes no time getting down to "business" in a way that is almost jarring, though well done. The pacing of the book overall was a bit quick for my taste and wish we got more time following these characters. As for the secondary characters, I found them to be a little lackluster and had a hard time caring much about their story. A lot of things were hinted at that I felt were meant to drive that interest, but it fell flat for me. Will it stop me from reading book 2? Probably not. A.D. Marie delivers on their promises and that is enough for me.
this book absolutely blew my mind! the chemistry between liam and sofya is beautiful! there’s everything i loved about a dark mafia romance (praise, soft dom, legit touch her and 💀) the amount of times these characters made me blush and swoon is amazing! i love a good morally grey man😂. if you are looking for a dark mafia book when a man who will do anything for his women this is your book. and you absolutely need it. this book speed through to my top 5 books of 2023 and i’ve read 101 books so far so that says a lot!
i did receive this as an arc. but this review is 100% how i actually feel! and would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone wanting to get into dark romance
Liam & Sofya meet after a flight cancelation & have a steamy hookup in the airport. Expecting never to see each other again. Of course that's just the beginning of their steamy story.
The spice level of the first chaptet alone had me gasping for air. Its sprinkled throughout but truly starts off with a bang!
This book at me on the edge of my seat. It was a quicky read but damn was it satisfying. There were no cliffhangers but i Definitely feel like their story could continue.
This is just the begining of the red widow crew! If you enjoy spice & kinks, mafia, dark romance, forced proximity. i absolutely recommend this book. It will be released May 2nd!
The loss of someone you love never really heals completely, it will always be a scare that tugs and pulls with memories happy and sad leaving a full ache or sudden pain even in unexpected times.
This book gutted me in ways that I didn’t expect. Mafia (and MC) romance typically are my go to for “light” reads. Smut and actions, but this one. This one got me rubbing the center of my chest with that dull ache of missing my lost loved one. The pain of a family member dying is enough to hurt years later, I can’t imagine loosing the one that holds my heart in his hands. Grief doesn’t have a time line! Great release for mental health awareness month. #endthestigma
