Thanks Good Reads First Reads for a wonderful giveaway! So nice to start the week off with a book win! I was so excited to have received my copy yesterday and notice that both authors signed it! Thank you!
I just finished The Chesapeake:Tales and Scales and I really enjoyed each and every chapter. The stories in this book (it's made up of past articles from The Chesapeake) was interesting, and insightful. There are some truly funny articles also, they will have you giggling to yourself and make people wonder what you are reading. This book also made me want to visit those places I have not been to yet. I know I will get there some day. This book was also a quick read, with the short articles/chapters even if you just have a minute or two you can pick it up, read for a few and set it back down, no need to have only an hour, you can go back to the nest chapter and not be lost. I liked this one. Thank you First Reads Giveaways!

The author allowed me to read this book shortly after he first wrote it. Having been born and raised in central Illinois and later ending up married and living in Southern Maryland where I worked for over 25 years I thought I knew a lot about this area. I quickly learned how little I did know. I've always loved history, especially military, and explored this area constantly. Because of my job as a law enforcement officer in Charles, one of the three oldest counties in the state in Southern Maryland I had thought I know the "players" and politicians. But this book brought alive a great many of the sites, politicians, players and those who pulled the strings of power behind the scenes that opened my eyes even more.

The book is a series of short folksy stores about real people, real events and places brought alive in an enjoyable, entertaining and alive manner by the author. The lower Chesapeake Bay and Potomac Rivers are brought alive with the former fleets of sailing skipjacks, bugeyes, buyboats, clam dredging boats where the claims were "tonged" by fishermen from the bottom and the old ships that carried the bounty of the Bay and River to the famed restaurants of Washington, DC, Annapolis and Baltimore as well as passengers, animals and other freight on a daily bases. The lives of the men who manned all these various boats, ships in this area are brought to life in an informative and entertaining light.

A entertaining and informative read for the locals of Southern Maryland and an insight into live on and around the lower Chesapeake and Potomac that will entertain and enlighten those who have never visited this beautiful, historic and interesting area of our great nation!

I'll first off say that I am a huge fan of Ken Rossignol and have really enjoyed all of his books. I have read most of them and always enjoy the awesome history lessons that I get in each one of them. This was another great book that I just couldn't wait to check out. This book features The Chesapeake. I learned a little bit about The Chesapeake in school, but I really wanted to take things to the next level and learn even more about it. This is an interesting book of short stories that help you to learn more about the early days of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, the adventures of St. George's Island, Serendipity Seranades, Jack Rue, and the boomtown of Lexington Park. This is 200 pages of pure fun, entertainment and a great learning experience. Love the works of this author. I highly recommend checking out more of his books!

The Chesapeake stories are about fishing, living in earlier times, hunting during deer season, walking in the woods, fishing in the Florida Keys doing all of these things with friends you really care about. In this book you will find a stand alone short story in each chapter. Each one is entertaining, some funny, some serious but all are great stories. The story I liked best was the story about a knife found in the middle of a tree. Ken Rollsignol is an excellent writer giving great details along the way. What I liked best about this book was each chapter is a complete story that stands alone and all the photos were a big plus. I received this book free in return a truthful review.
