What I thought
This was a Cute little story. Francesca got on nerves but I really liked Phillip. I loved the interactions between the two and I like the setting. Can't wait to start book two.

A short but sweet little book in the vein of Georgette Heyer (although no one can do it quite as well as she did!). This is a charming little story with several very likeable characters who unfortunately never get the chance to develop fully. The book seems to gallop to a conclusion and I felt it could have actually been better if it had been longer. However it was still an enjoyable and entertaining read.

A very cute novella about childhood friends becoming something more, set in Regency England.
It's nothing we haven't seen before but I guess what made it fun to read was Phillip, the hero. It certainly can't be Francesca, who had me rolling my eyeballs with her vehement denials. I get that Regency ladies were expected to be modest and un-scandalous but really, does she need to keep up the act in her internal monologue? No harm in drooling inside, Fran.
I empathised with Francesca's desire to experience a Season and find love, true love and all that. I just didn't understand why she was so insistent that Phillip not be a part of that equation. As the duchess rightly says:
"I suppose, my dear, I don’t understand. Why wouldn’t that opportunity to fall in love be with Phillip?"
Aside: This is one of the reasons I enjoyed Loretta Chase's books so much. Her heroines don't usually spend pages pretending they don't react to heroes like the stomach to chilli peppers. Real conflict should be something beyond "But I couldn't possibly love him..."
Phillip is charming and considerate, a rare combination of traits in heroes of the genre. He makes a few hilarious quips like these:
"Ah yes, the infamous ducal glower. It must be a day that ends in y."
"“She blinked. "You’re actually proposing?"
"Please, Franny." He reached for her hands, drew them to his lips and kissed them one by one.
"But we’re already engaged," she protested.
"Yes. My father proposed to your father. It was very romantic, I’m sure. But now I am proposing to you."
Not that he doesn't have his own fair share of dancing around the bush, but he handles it better.
There's no major storyline to speak of since the book is so short. Quite a few scorching moments scattered here and there for the readers' benefit, though I have to wonder at these incidents happening in broad daylight in the middle of town. Warning: your toes might tingle.
It's the kind of feel-good story I can see someone reading on their commute after a long day. It won't take up much time or energy; kind of a glucose dose that gives you just what you need.

I found A Delightful Arrangement when I was browsing through the free books in the Kobo store, and didn't realise that it was in fact a novella.
I don't read a lot of romance novels; I'm fine with a story that contains a romance, but out-and-out romance isn't really my cup of tea. I was pleasantly surprised with A Delightful Arrangement. Having read a lot of Austen, I was perfectly comfortable with the Regency setting, although Gray's main male character, Philip, was a bit racier than Mr Darcy or Mr Willoughby!
Philip is the best friend of Francesca, though what she doesn't realise is that their fathers have agreed that they will be married. Francesca's relationship with her father is strained, mainly due to the fact that he probably isn't her biological father. When Francesca learns of the arrangement to see her married off, she baulks, telling Philip that she wants to go to London and find a man who will make her swoon, and not be pressured into a marriage with someone she feels is agreeing to it out of duty.
The characters are nicely written, and the sex scenes are steamy enough without veering into full blown erotica. There are a further three books in the series that follow the lives of other characters; the second one deals with Francesca's friend Chastity. I don't know if I will rush to read the subsequent books, as they are not a direct continuation of the story. But I'm pleased to have finished my first book of 2013!

Francesca's mourning period for the loss of her mother is over and now that she is of marriageable age she is ready for her first season and the balls. She wants to dance and flirt and meet the man of her dreams. When she's told that she's betrothed to her neighbor and friend Phillip she can't believe it. Phillip is her friend, not someone to make her swoon and fall in love with which she desperately wishes for.
A good love story but not really a stand out. Francesca could seem a little bratty which I suppose is why her father arranged her marriage and didn't have faith in her finding a suitor on her own but most would be thrilled that someone they are so close to would want to marry them. Kind of felt bad for Phillip the whole story as he really was bothered by her wanting to meet others.

I found this as a freebie, and very much enjoyed it. Francesca's is informed by her father that her marriage has been arranged to her lifelong friend Phillip but she agrees with him that she can have a season in London and if she finds somebody who makes her swoon he'll release her from their engagement.
Phillip has always known that he would make the marriage to Francesca that their families expected but will she ever come to love him?
Main criticism of this is that it's too short! Could have done with a bit more.
Re-read: I enjoyed this reread. It's quite cute, although the purist in me objects!

Beside the premise and the fun characters, what I loved most were the hot scenes without getting erotic. There are few novels/novellas that have been able to get my blood pumping without taking the scene over into an obvious erotic moment. Neck nuzzling and earlobe nibbling have never been hotter.
The only downfall in this novella is that it is a novella and not a longer novel. I really wished it would’ve been longer, even a bit longer. I feel like I’m missing an amazing ending to this tale which made me want Celia to continue- even if it were to just give me an epilogue.

An absolutely delightful historical romance novella, A Delightful Arrangement was a lovely read. I really liked this sweet romance. It was quick, light, and an truly enjoyable read.
Both characters were great. Francesca wanted a taste of freedom after spending 3 Seasons in mourning, but also knew to hold on tight when she realized that the man she loved was, in fact, her fiance. Philip was wonderful. A sweet, honorable man, he was determined to prove that he could make Francesca happy. They were both lovely characters and I liked them both.
The romance was very sweet. It was clear that Francesca and Philip had a deep connection stemming from their friendship, but they both had yet to realize that it had turned into something more. But, they eventually did and, along the way, they definitely proved that they had chemistry between them. I thought they were a lovely couple.
The plot was light and quick and I was engaged the whole way through. I really liked the story and the ending was perfect.
A Delightful Arrangement was a wonderful historical romance novella that I really liked. Romance lovers, if you want a quick, light read, then this is definitely a book you'll want to check out.

As she is coming out of her morning she finds out that is already engaged to the neighbor's son, her mother's best friend's son, and her best friend, Phillip. Franny is so upset cause no one told her this until the very last day of her mourning and she thought she was going to be free of her father and that life. But will she??
Lord Phillip March is the gentlemen next door. He grew up with Franny and know everything about her. He has known about the arrangement for awhile and just assume that she knew. When things come to ahead, how will he deal with it? Will the go through with the arrangement or there be an out clause?
I am enjoying reading this series by Cecilia. At first I didn't know what to think, but I couldn't not put the books down once I started reading them. I'm only into book two of the four part series but I can't wait to read the next one. That is how addicting this series it. I recommend this author, book, and series to others. I found A Delightful Arrangement to be very charming! I love regency romance books and this one was full of romance and fun as well! The characters were interesting and the story pulled me in right away! Francesca and her determination to find a swoon-worthy man made for a great story! I loved Phillip and his obvious care for Francesca! Too bad Francesca can't see or admit to what is right in front of her! Although this is a novella, I never once felt that I didn't know enough about the characters and their situation. Cecilia Gray has a way of drawing you into a new world with each book that she writes! If you don't have a lot of time and you like regency romances, then A Delightful Arrangement is the book for you! (This book contains adult content and is considered an adult romance book)

I am not a huge regency romance fan and that should probably be taken into account, but I found this cute. Yes, Fran annoyed me by being so unaware of her own feelings and eventually in the requisite "I don't know what this feeling in my body is" sex scene. (I basically just dislike that sort of sex scene in general.) And yes, even though I liked Philip, the whole story hinged on his not telling her how he feels, which is a little too close to the 'misunderstand' trope for my liking. You always knew exactly where this story was going and how it'd get there, but, if you like the sort of thing, it's a cute read.

Very clean and sweet romance, if only it was a proper novel. There was potential for a really good story and I feel somewhat short changed. The H and h are long term friends and neighbours, he is his father's heir, she is only child. Her father dislikes her, as he thinks she isn't his - she's got the inevitable red hair syndrome, only one in her family. Her mother died, and h misses her. Their fathers arrange MOC, and she so badly wanted to live a little, have some fun, and a season. She is a fun character, and so was the H. Good writing, nice characters with a grumpy father.

I didn't notice how short this story was until I was reading it for the first time and got through a quarter of it in a few minutes of pre-bed reading. This would have been a very fun and enjoyable story if it had been fleshed out into full-length. As it stands, it just feels like a bit of a tease. If you do like your stories to be bite-size this would be perfect for you. It's very good, I just felt it was incomplete.

This was a middle of the road novella. It was a cute story but I wasn't really affected by it. I would recommend this as a sweet read for a rainy day.

laaaame sure it was free but the storyline seemed like it had some promise of historical goodness . . . wrong! i pretty much skimmed this . . . u can skip paragraphs and not miss a thing.

This Regency romance novella is absolutely adorable. It’s short (only 69 pages according to Amazon) but beautifully written. There’s enough description of Francesca’s home life to understand why she’s so keen not to duplicate her parents’ marriage, without it taking over the book. And as a woman who loves the male’s POV, this book certainly delivered.
It was lovely to see how Phillip went from duty to love (“Straight out of the drivel Franny liked to read in love”) and how Franny went from just wanting an escape to something more. There’s some sizzle, but again, it doesn’t take over the book and in my opinion it fitted properly into the story.
I did wonder why Francesca had to spend 3 years in mourning – one year, absolutely – that was a given in the Regency era. And I could understand her taking a longer mourning period if she wished given how much she loved her mother, but the author seemed to indicate it was mandatory for her to spend that long which seemed very odd to me. In fact it seemed a bit too convenient as a storytelling device and is primarily the reason I’ve recommended rather than highly recommended it.
And the HEA?
Ultimately though I guess you want to know – did I feel the HEA was right? Was I left with a warm and fuzzy feeling or wishing I could get my money back?
Yes, given the constraints of the length, I did feel the HEA was right. I liked that there was only one minor misunderstanding and that it was resolved by… talking to each other! (And good on Francesca on taking the initiative there too).
I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the next in the series.

Think Ali Hazelwood meets Bridgerton with duty versus love as a main theme.
Phillip and Francesca have been friends since childhood and, when Francesca finds out that their fathers had already arranged their marriage, the first thing she wants to do is have a Season, to flirt and dance and have the chance to swoon and hopefully fall in love. What she doesn’t know is that love is closer than she thinks.
This novella is told in dual POV and has all the makings of a 19th century/modern day romance. There are descriptions akin to AH’s writing style with the posh and proper sentiments of the British. If either of these comparisons is your jam, I’d recommend this quick and easy read; if not, avoid at all costs.
Phillip and Francesca have been friends since childhood and, when Francesca finds out that their fathers had already arranged their marriage, the first thing she wants to do is have a Season, to flirt and dance and have the chance to swoon and hopefully fall in love. What she doesn’t know is that love is closer than she thinks.
This novella is told in dual POV and has all the makings of a 19th century/modern day romance. There are descriptions akin to AH’s writing style with the posh and proper sentiments of the British. If either of these comparisons is your jam, I’d recommend this quick and easy read; if not, avoid at all costs.

Então decide desfrutar da sua primeira temporada e tentar se apaixonar. O mocinho concorda porque acredita que ela irá se apaixonar por ele. E claro que os dois já estão em apaixonados mas só percebem depois. Casal com química e leitura leve.

This is a really delightful Historical romance novella that I enjoyed and made me smile. Friends to lovers with a slow burn romance. Nicely written in a fairly simple style and yes, it did get pretty steamy towards the end. 3.5 stars.

This was the first book I was accepted for on Netgalley and I was so excited to start this one!
I really like the covers on this whole series they are so simple and colorful and really draw your eyes to them.
When it comes to historical fiction books its usually hit or miss with me. I like to believe that I am a history buff and I expect my books that I read to be historically sound. With that being said this historical book has little to do with historical events which is great for me because I do prefer that the relationship between characters be the focus for a book.
I liked both of our leads they were solid likable people. I preferred our hero more than Francesca. Which is not really a surprise I almost always love the hero before the heroine. Phillip was such a loveable character he felt so aloof at first and then he was snarky and sassy and I love that! He also was driven in what he wanted and that is absolutely amazing I love characters having drive. He also fell in love first which I personally love it keeps him on his toes and its fun to watch him obsess over her.
Francesca was an OK character I liked her! I get why she wanted to have her own life, wanted to decide her life and who she married. Her mission to be swooned is awesome and hilarious.
The ending of the book felt a little bit rushed. I would of enjoyed it if the end scenes were drawn out a little bit more. A few history facts were a little bit off as well but understandable and them being different helped the story be the story it was meant to be.
Childhood friends into something more is a theme in books that I absolutely love. When characters realize that they have always had feelings for each other and never realized it is a really fun concept to me.
I really liked Chasity as well. She’s Franny friend who basically knows that the two of them are meant for each other and she added a layer of depth. I believe that Chasity gets her own story in this series and I am really looking forward to reading her own story!
This is the first book I had read by Cecilia Gray and it will most likely not be my last I really liked her writing style and the characters she has written are really relate-able.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a nice light historical romance.

A Delightful Arrangement is a sweet historical romance that really captures your attention from the first page.
I love Francesca and Phillip! They are such a sweet duo. I could read about them for days and never tire of them. Their relationship makes me swoon. Francesca, or Franny, as Phillip calls her is very insecure. It's obvious in her demeanor. She grew up with an extremely sick mother and a domineering, harsh father and is forced into a marriage she didn't choose for herself. I would be self-conscious and upset, too! Phillip spends most of the story trying to win Francesca over and make her realize how good they would be together.
Most of the novella, I was shouting at Franny in my head - "HE LOVE YOU, YOU IDIOT! AND YOU LOVE HIM! LET'S JUST BE HAPPY AND GET TOGETHER!" She couldn't realize how much she really loved him, so I began to turn to Phillip. I mean, man's gotta take charge so he can get his woman! But of course… it doesn't work that way. They are both so stubborn in their ways!
I love Ms. Gray's writing style. She can write a young adult love story, and she can write an adult romance with a sweet erotic twist. It's simplistic, but only in the best of ways and really gets the message across. Her words have so much meaning and really make you want to keep reading. I want Cecilia Gray to be my own personal happy writer. Anytime I'm sad, I know to turn to one of her stories. They are just so sweet and uplifting.
My only problem with this novella is that it wasn't long enough! I wanted to see more Franny and Phillip! They are just so great together! I can't wait to read the next part of the series, hopefully, it will give Francesca and Phillip at least some minor roles! I miss them already!

A Delightful Arrangement was very hard to put down. I was actually sad to see it end. It had laughter, romance, and lots of stubbornness – a great trio of characteristics. Both of the main characters are very relatable and play off each other very well. Francesca is stubborn and romantic. Phillip, being Francesca’s childhood playmate/best friend, is loyal, loving, but just as stubborn as Francesca. Both seem to be determined to have their own way and in the end, they achieve their goals.
I really liked how Francesca stood up for what she wanted. She was determined from the beginning to get what she thought was fair, and come heck or high water, she was gonna get it. I loved Phillip. He wanted to help Francesca just as much as she wanted help, but had his own reasons. As the story unfolds, I loved both Francesca and Phillip even more. I also fell in deep like with Chastity, Francesca’s female best friend. She is the best friend everyone should have. She’s supportive, loyal to a fault, but knows when good natured teasing and a little prodding will get things moving in the right direction.
Overall, I think Cecilia Gray’s A Delightful Engagement hits all the right notes. It feels like a much longer book and isn’t missing anything in being a short blush romance. Unlike most romances, A Delightful Arrangement skips the part where the hero and heroine break up over some understanding and then get back together, which I felt was a great choice. Gray’s characters were believable in their roles and situations. I only wish I could be a part of their world. It seems so fascinating. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants something short, sweet, and gets to the point quickly without wasting any time.

In the spirit of Georgette Heyer, this delightful regency romp offers a humorous and heartwarming tale of Boy Next Door romance. It's a shorter piece, but the story and characters are given full attention. I had a good time with it as the heroine sets out intrepidly into high society London to find a man to make her swoon all the while that man may be closer than she thinks.
Francesca, recently out of mourning for her dear mother, is brought up short when her father informs her that she is to be engaged to the son of his next door neighbor so there is no reason for her to have a Season. Engaged to Phillip! What a notion! She will not marry anyone who considers her a duty. She wants to marry for love. In a surprising moment, Phillip, who seems to really want the marriage, agrees to let her have her Season before they are to be married and he seals their deal with a kiss. A kiss that makes her feel...well not quite swoony, but something.
The story is not deeply developed because of its length, but the reader has no trouble getting the picture or knowing enough to be vested in the characters. Franny had a bad example in her own parents marrying for duty. That word means one thing for her, but quite another for Phillip. Phillip cares for her and looks forward to the duty of making Franny happy. He is bewildered by his feelings and her need to find romance. It was a nice little knot to tease out. I enjoyed the romance development and liked these two together.
In the end, it was a delight to the senses and nice for someone who wants a quick sweet read on the run. Historical Romance fans who like light and humorous should try this one.

I’m not normally a novella fan, but I’ve been short of time recently so have found myself reading more than normal. A DELIGHTFUL ARRANGEMENT is a light-hearted and dare I say, it ‘delightful’ romance.
The story sucks you in and whirls you away immediately. The main characters are fun, endearing and adorable. I actually wished the story had been longer because I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Francesca’s determination to find a man who makes her swoon, is as humorous as Phillip’s determination to be the man to do it. I loved the fact they were childhood best friends and are both unaware of their own real feelings for one another. It made their love story really heart-warming. Maybe their sudden decision to get married for real was slightly abrupt. But it didn’t matter as you are just so happy for them.
Francesca (Franny), is full of feist, and I can’t say I blame her, what woman wants to marry out of duty? I loved watching Phillip fall first, determined to capture the oblivious Franny’s heart. I always like it when the man falls first, it’s good to keep them on their toes!
Chastity, Franny’s best friend adds depth to the story, she’s funny and realises right from the beginning that Franny and Phillip are meant to be together. This story is the first Cecilia Gray I’ve read and she really does have a lovely writing style, bringing the fairytale magic you want from a historical romance.

You really can’t go wrong with this cute little novella. It’s a lovely, historical romance about two best friends falling in love. Grab your reading glasses, snuggle down and enjoy the ride.

A short story, regency romance with sensual sex.
As is normal for short stories the plot is simple.
The H/h have known each other since they were young. One day, the heroine is told that she is to marry her childhood friend, a man she thinks of as a brother. She always wanted a season, but the death of her mother three years earlier prevented her having one
(Fact check: I thought the mouring period for a parent was one year. Mourning for a spouse is two years. So why three years would keep her from her comeout and season, I don't understand. Also, a duke's daugher, even one suspected to me a "coo-coo in the nest" would be presented to the Queen and have her come-out (her presentation to her peers). Having a season was not just about finding a husband but about making friends/alliances with powerful titled women and their daughters. The women controlled the social aspects of the Ton. How could her father, a Duke, engage his daughter to an Earl's heir and not provide the necessities and introductiosn required for her current and future station? But I digress.)
So, while secretly engaged the hero allows her a season to find another man capable of making her swoon. If she falls in love with another before they formally announce their betrothal, she can cry off and marry the other man. Meanwhile, he woos her.
The story is sweet, but not emotionally deep or historically acurate. Before I read this story, I read one that was emotionally deep and found this story a nice dose of sorbet, light and pallet cleansing.
