Cadenbury Town #4

If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It

Rate this book
Nix Washington’s first taste of magic is when he’s been kidnapped and wakes up strapped to a stone table so a dark wizard can sacrifice him to steal his magic.

And isn’t that a hoot when he discovers that he’s descended from a long line of original light witches?

What isn’t funny is the demon sent after his little sister, nor is the dark witch’s intent on killing Nix.

Thankfully, Nix has just moved to Cadenbury, a town filled with witches and other paranormals, one of whom is Cam Stone, youngest brother of the town alpha who’s also the mayor. Cam will do whatever he has to to keep Nix and his little sister safe, even if it means shifting and eating a dark witch.

With his new friends and family standing ready to help, will Nix finally find his place and learn that not all magic is bad?

Frustrating!

From book 1 I wanted to move to cadenbury and at this point if it doesn't turn into a real place I can stalk I don't know what ill do. Its frustrating, but in a good way.

E. Broom is a master of the serial and that is simply fact. Every book adds just a tiny bit to the overall arc but its just so SATISFYING that it doesn't matter that you are desperate to unlock the mystery. Like the plot barely inches at all but I really don't care. Broom could put out a book called "random Tuesday in cadenbury" and nothing happens but following these people around on tuesday and I would buy it and probably love it.

Ill always have a soft spot for Ernest but Nix is my absolute favorite. He is just so relatable as a character that seeing him slowly again more and more confidence and joy was incredibly satisfying. Cam was the perfect support for him.

Can't wait for the next book. I really hope Alfred gets an HEA soon (hint hint). Love this whole series and couldn't recommend highly enough!

My reviews are my own. If you liked this book, I’m glad you enjoyed it. If not, I respect your opinion.  This is merely my opinion, so let's keep it courteous.

Insta-Love
Not as bad as in the first two books, but still no relationship development.

Food Fixation and Other Useless Info Dump
Same as other books, I believe this author has some food fixation issues; the topic brings nothing to the table since neither of them is a chef or baker, or cook, but we keep reading about food. Several other topics have no value to the main story, but we get info dumps about them.

Characters
I like the characters as separate beings, but not the interaction between them as a couple; the chemistry is just weird. Did Ernest have a personality transplant at some point, and I missed it? He is totally different in the last few books than he was on his own. Actually, I have never liked Nix much.

Scorecards
This author is definitely a one-trick pony. Again with the same?

Rinse and Repeat
Nix's parents died in a car accident, like Tempest. Ernest slept for three days like Tempest. Molly is the ONLY character who they constantly describe by their looks in all the books so far. How many times do they have to mention outhouses? Copy-paste from the previous books, over and over. Did the author run out of ideas?

Poor Decisions
Why is Sal going back outside the town? His family is bad, so why even stay with them? Also, when you have a kid, you pick up your phone, no matter what you are doing, but he was so focused on the store that he didn't. PRIORITIES! Then his sister almost died, but as soon as she is "ok" all he thinks about is sex? Same the second and third time. Again, priorities, dude! Then the other moron goes by himself to check on the alarm?

Do these people ever work? They are constantly out. Who can do that? They have been "thinking" about reading the whatever diaries since the first book, too, and they haven't. Maybe if they stop having so much off-page sex, they would finally have time to read the darn books.

I realized that I hate endearments on-page.  Don't mind people calling themselves love, sweets, boo, or whatever in person, but I've noticed that I cringe when it is done in books. It sounds fake somehow, or at least that's how it makes me feel. The story still suffers from major editing issues, if there was any editing at all. The timeline is also ridiculous, just like previous books. The story moves at a lightning pace, so it makes you feel like you are on a drop from a rollercoaster. Copy-paste from the previous books, nothing new. Just like my reviews, since there are no improvements.

On to my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!

Fantastic story

The story continues as another brother finds love. Nix and Cam's story was full of magic, mystery, and humor. I liked how everyone welcomed Nix and Nora into their families. I also liked that Sal is trying so hard to be good and useful instead of succumbing to his dark magic lineage. I have a feeling his story is going to be intense. Cam may be the youngest brother of the bunch but he definitely becomes a protective older brother to Nora. I'm going to need a family tree or a flow chart to keep track of everyone lol. Fantastic story, can't wait for the next book.

Found family, a little action

The plot here is a bit meandering. There's a dark magic threat against Nix's sister, Nora. But mostly the story is about Nix accepting his magic and new Cadenbury family.

There is a romance with Cam, but it's just fluff. There's no conflict in it. The romance just gives Nix backup and a reason to belong. In general, these guys lack the personality of other characters in the series.

Overall, a fun bit of fluff you'll want to read to continue the story of characters we already like and meet the next one...

I love this series

This is a really fun series, and I'm excited for the next one already (I'm hoping Sal and Judas but I'll take anyone). This is one of those suspend belief kind of reads, you got magical powers with almost no limits that can do all sorts of things and I love it. I also love the found family vibes, the cutesy nicknames everyone gives their partners, and the quirky town setting. 10/10 would recommend

And it keeps...

And the series keeps giving. If you are filled this series this is another good instalment, if you are not may I ask you why not? If you like witches And the fight between good and evil dark but in a light hearted sort of way then this is for you. Very happy to recommend.

Nix, Cam and little Nora

A lot of being pulled this way and that way. Both Nora and Nix have problems sleeping through the night. Nora is delightful and I hope she is up close in the rest of the books to come. We should be seeing Jude and Sal get their story, Cass and Sion and Alfred and Doc.
Books to look forward to.

Enjoyable quick paced read.

If you are looking for a lot of spicy scenes, this series isn't for you. What it does have is a sold back story that started with the first book . The plot thickens with each installment. There is plenty of love, romance, and a story progression that allows you to get to know the characters and moves at a quick pace.

3 1/2 Stars👍🤗

The ending of this series was a little bit slow but okay😢. The characters were okay but were a bit youngest acting for their ages. All in all good read for younger readers🤔👍!

Great Addition to Series

I enjoy the author's writing. Despite no steamy scenes in the book, I'm pulled into the love and friendship of the MCs and family. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I received an ARC of this book and I love it. I like that Nix didn't happily accept that he had magic, he struggled with everything and Cam is just perfect.
I'm hoping Saladin will have a book soon.
