Was this just an elaborate seduction plan?

Verity Lacey wasn't sure why Luc Garcia had lured her to the sunny Dominican Republic on the pretense of work. There were no catering jobs, as he had promised. In fact, he only expected her to lie in the sun.

But Verity couldn't trust Luc--or herself. Not after what had happened the first time they'd met, when she'd been engaged to his best friend.... Now that Edward was dead, she couldn't help but wonder if Luc was being so attentive out of a sense of responsibility or guilt.

Whatever his reasons, there was no way Verity could relax around Luc. Not when sparks flew every time they were together.

This was a 3 1/2 star for me---loved the Caribbean setting and the focus on the H/h interactions. At times this seemed to be an alpha male revenge-themed romance but was really more about the H waiting until he could woo the h, with whom he was clearly smitten. Lots of chemistry between the MCs. Very minor OW/OM involvement, which is a plus to me.

Could not read, skimmed and tried to tolerate shrewish h who lashed out at besotted H. Barely 2 stars but did manage to finish.

this is such a random book that i know, but the lore behind it is i read it during summer break when i was like 8-9 years old. i had to climb the maple in front of my grandma’s house and hide on the highest branch. basically, i had no business reading this book at that tender age.

but now this romance is forever associated with those delightful times i spent in the village, reading the love story of luc and verity, sitting on the tree, hiding from everyone…

idec for the plot, i read it only 3-4 times, but i know every page like the back of my hand.

grateful for the nostalgia kick, now back to the usual programming :)
