Cool Crocheted Hats: 40 Contemporary Designs

Rate this book
Crocheted accessories are all the rage—and these stylish hats, created by top-notch designers, will appeal to readers of all skill levels. Even the simplest ones feature great color combinations and irresistibly textured yarns. Not only that: the stunning photography and unique presentation will enhance their appeal. All the backgrounds, from a Paris train station to an art deco building, are in evocative black and white, while the models appear in full color. The hats live up to their settings, too! A Kufi-styled crown cap captures the exotic magic of 1920’s Morocco. A houndstooth lidcap features a bold, two-colored design. In addition to the 40 patterns, there’s advice on felting, which results in a denser, warmer hat, and on a range of fashionable embellishments.

I like the hat on the cover. I'm thinking of trying it in a rose color. There are some hats that look incredibly complicated and let's face it, who would wear-kind of hats. But then they give a lot of ideas of hats and the kind of yarn that it would take to make it. I like the idea of the book but I think that I would need something more basic because when it comes to crochet instructions, I'm a bit spastic.

This book includes a large collection of crochet hat patterns, with the balance tipping toward very strange concoctions of eyelash yarn and multi-textural layers, rather than the same old patterns you see everywhere else. I'm not sure that I'd make more than three or four of the patterns in the book, but it was fun to look at the ideas.

This is a mixed bag of patterns. Some are cute and fun, but others are silly, ostentatious, and unwearable.
