Saletti Blood #2

Sins of the Father

Rate this book
Severiano Tarussio, who'd been banished from the country of his birth for too many years, finally returns home to Italy with only one thing on his mind - vengeance. Knowing he needs approval from the head of the Lombardo family before he can act upon his desire, he knows that if he can get it, retribution against the Saletti family would be, oh, so sweet.

Fiora Ducani, the new head of the Lombardo family, is thrilled to the bone by the return of Vicente Tarussio's handsome grandson, even if it had been without her permission. She'd missed the arrogant man who'd always had a way with the ladies, but now he's put her in a tight spot with the very man who'd ordered his banishment years before.

Rocco Lombardo, the retired mob boss who'd managed to keep an alliance with the Saletti family for years, now has a growing concern for the recently ascended son of Alessandro, who seems to be spiraling out of control over the little American girl he's been keeping company with. He wants nothing but to keep the peace between the families, but the return of Severiano threatens to destroy it all. Or, will it turn the tables in favor of the Lombardo family, through a scheme that only Severiano can pull off?

With the hope for a new family in his future with his beautiful and young bride-to-be, Vincenzo Saletti finds himself confronted by his father's past and the possibility that his lifelong enemy may have a closer connection to him than he'd ever imagined. It's enough to leave him questioning everything about the father he'd known, while giving the woman who holds his heart in the palm of her hand doubts about their own future together. Will it be enough to destroy the love he and Novella have only just begun to know, or will they overcome the sins of the father and strengthen the bond they now share?

Vana V is an American writer who's lived a very colorful life. The creator of the Saletti Blood series, she has incorporated a great deal of her own personal experiences and tragedies into her books as a means of self-therapy. For her, writing has always been her outlet.

She currently has a second series in the works, as she feels she'll never be able to express her thoughts enough and therefore must continue writing.

Having grown up with many horses at her feet, her love for them has never stopped. She owns several horses now and has even returned to training - her own yearling her latest student, which she calls her Heart Horse (their hair color is identical, by the way). To hear her tell it, if she's not writing then she's riding. She's also very fond of pugs and owns an entire grumble, who keep her company in her office while she's typing away. And for anyone wanting to get into her good graces, she won't deny that a perfect cup of cappuccino is the only way to her heart. Her previous life in Italy has spoiled her.

Genre: Mafia Romance
Setting: Italy
POVs: Multiple, third-person
Series? Yes. This is book two of a trilogy.
Cliffhanger?
Triggers? Yes!

The violence! The bloodshed and fatalities! The secrets and lies that run deep. The romance, drama, and humor. All of it blended exceptionally well in this multi-layered, engrossing, and highly satisfying novel!

The first book in this series, The Order (Saletti Blood, #1), tore my heart out and left me gasping for precious breaths!

As a result, I had to take a small break from this series to compose myself before finally starting this book.

The beginning was a little slow but the story quickly picked up in pace with the shifting perspectives. Vincenzo continued his role as Capo di tutti Capi in this installment and I wasn’t sure how much heat and brutality he would bring to this role, but he surprised me in this story! Half the time my thoughts were:

Or:

But there was much to keep me entertained in this story aside from the bloodbaths: a feisty pup named Zeus, a future mafia wife with insecurity issues, an old rival with deadly secrets, a strong female lead with a team of hitmen to do her bidding, a former Don who manipulated people like common pieces on a chess board, and that strong taboo issue that couldn’t be overlooked between Novella and Vincenzo.

► This is a great mafia romance book and it dug me out of my seemingly endless reading slump! As with book one, the novel structure/ shifting POVs were an adjustment for me but the characters were so gripping that those concerns quickly died off. This series has to be read in order as each book builds from the previous book’s content.

The Order (Saletti Blood, #1) by Vana V. Sins of the Father (Saletti Blood, #2) by Vana V. Casualties of War (Saletti Blood, #3) by Vana V.

On to book three!

***UPDATE - March 16, 2014***
I am still working on the rewrite of this book, for those who are waiting on it. Sorry for the long delay. LIFE got in the way and I had to take a break from the computer. I do apologize. I'll be making my greatest effort in getting this done ASAP. Will post when it's finished, and will be giving a free download of the new version for a very limited time. :)

So this second book in the series was mainly about the growing romance between Novella and Vincenzo.

To be honest, the relationship could not be described as a one between two adults, it was more like Father and Daughter. I could not believe that the 'Capo di tutti Capi' would tolerate all the crap she dished out!!! I know she was only 17 but it was infuriating!!! At one point, I was praying that Vincenzo would put a bullet through her brain and put us all out of our misery!! Grrrr!

As with the first book, this book switches between several POV's and scene changes within one chapter, with no clear transition. This makes reading it much harder work and took my focus away from the story.

Having said all that, the actual story had potential but the almost incestuous relationship made me a little uncomfortable and frustrated. Plus, there was too much filler, repetition and deciphering required to really enjoy it.

This is a good book but genuinely Novella at times frustrates me so much!! she claims to love Vincenzo but yet he does all the hard work in their relationship whilst she just sits and cries or takes every opportunity to lash out and not trust him when he has done nothing to warrant the lack of trust! Quite frankly, Novella needs to grow up and make some effort for their relationship to work!

The second book is a bit better than the first one, just I can not digest the fact that the main female character is so young. Novella is 17 (at the end of this book 18) and he is 35-36?!
Nope....

This was nowhere near as brutal as the first book. It was a much smoother read as well. Novella really acted her age here, I was ready to strangle her in a few places!
