Although a year has passed, not a day goes by without Meggie thinking of Inkheart, the book whose characters came to life and changed her life forever.
But for Dustfinger, the fire-eater brought into being from words, the need to return to the tale has become desperate. When he finds a crooked storyteller with the ability to read him back, Dustfinger leaves behind his young apprentice Farid and plunges into the medieval inkscape once more.
Distraught, Farid goes in search of Meggie, and before long, both are caught inside the book, too. There they meet Inkheart's author, Fenoglio, now living within his own story. But the tale is much changed, and threatening to evolve in ways none of them would ever have imagined. Will Meggie, Farid, and Fenoglio manage to write the wrongs of a charmed world? Or is their story on the brink of a very bad ending?
This book has been split into two volumes. When you are done listening to Volume 1, be sure to download Volume 2.
Cornelia Funke is a multiple award-winning German illustrator and storyteller, who writes fantasy for all ages of readers. Amongst her best known books is the Inkheart trilogy. Many of Cornelia's titles are published all over the world and translated into more than 30 languages. She has two children, two birds and a very old dog and lives in Los Angeles, California.
After seeing the movie of the first book, I listened to this book with my teen and tween daughters. We were riveted. I have to say, I enjoyed Brendan Fraser's narration immensely more than any of this acting roles. The world Funke has drawn is vivid and full of eccentric characters. And the ongoing homage to the written word is a delight for book lovers.

This rating is for the audiobook version. The print book gets 4 stars. I thought this was a good sequel to Inkheart. For me, it took a while to get into the story, but once it got moving, the intricate plot kept me listening. I liked the action and suspense, though this is a rather violent and at times depressing book. I thought the continuation of many of the characters from the original story was well-done, though it made for a bit of character overload. I wonder how readers would keep up if they hadn't read book one? The narrator was a mixed bag. His narration was lifeless and mind-numbing, a few of his main characters were unbearable, but for the sheer number of voices, I thought he did well. His reading improves on the last few discs. When there is action, he reads with more emotion. Unfortunately, he cannot match the brilliance of the narrator for book one. Overall, very worthwhile book.
It took me forever to get through since I was listening via Book on CD. The narration was a real treat. Brendan Fraser is terrific as a narrator. The book had many different oohs and ahhs which was exciting. I am slightly concerned that the story line is getting out of control. Inkdeath is next for my car listening and we will see how the plot turns.
Five stars for the incredible narration of Inkspell. Brandon Fraser does such a good job!!!! He does nine or more distinct voices, occasional sound effects. He does not read women's voices in the strange way male narrators do, that make them sound prissy.
At times I was so moved, I found myself crying when Magpie gave a speech about her dead villainous son.
Absolutely loved it. I was about to give up on inkspell but the narration drew me in, and it was worth the ride!!!
This one didn’t quite have the same sparkle as the first, but it was still an enjoyable read. It is always a double edged sword when a sequel is made for something you love. I wanted to know more about the characters and I got to, I also got to see the Ink World.
I wasn't as invested as I was with the first book. The story seemed a little stale. But, Brendan Fraser's narration was arguably the best part. His range was quite impressive and at time's quite heartbreaking.
I love a YA series that grows up with its readers. The second installment in the Inkheart series is a little darker and takes on more complex issues and the first book. I'm really looking forward to reading the third book.
Not many sequels can claim to be as good as the original. This is one that can. It is just as engaging as the first, expands the world, and still feels fresh. It has remained one of my favorite series for years!
This book is so sad. Farid dies, then out of the blue Dustfinger dies, Mo gets shot, Resa’s practically tortured, but there are happy bits in it to like Meggie’s stages of growing up is really fun to read, all in all I loved it.

The author of ink heart is wreaking havoc on his own story. New characters and the breaking of rules in this existence. Basta is back and out for revenge. meggie is galavanting about with Farid and causing much trouble as well. At least this time the whole family is there. Reading as an adult I cringe at the absurdity of some of the scenarios that were 100% avoidable and how wildly unprepared they all are on top of the meddling of fennilio. Orpheus is to arrogant to sit and be something so menial as an apprentice and especially to someone as arrogant as himself. Everyone is playing God and battling with Death.

I'm enjoying this YA series very much. I loved hearing Lynn Redgrave read the first book, so it was jarring to hear Brendan Fraser's much-different take on the second book, but I soon came to love his interpretation as well. I keep trying to figure out the technicalities of a world that exists because an author wrote about it, and all the people there and what happens and how that all works. Then I remind myself to not overthink it. But it's a cool concept.
whuaaaahh... lagi males banget bikin review.. intinya tertarik baca gara2 abis rerun inkheart, berhubung filmnya nggak diterusin, satu-satunya jalan ya baca bukunya..
Excellent sequel to Inkheart. This is a must read after the first book. You will not be disappointed. If you listen to an audiobook, Brendan Fraser is a wonderful Silvertongue as he reads. I was swept away.
Thicker than the 1st book. And it's been too long since the 1st one, in Indonesia of course. I like it better than the 1st one, so many details that turn the story on!! The story made me wants to come in to the book ;D
I really liked this book! I bought it at a garage sale cause I heard it was a movie. I hadn't watched the movie so I bought the book for a quarter. I found myself drawn into the world the writer created and frankly the movie was terrible! The book was a million times better!
This book takes place about a year after Inkheart. Meggie thinks about the characters of Inkheart often, Dustfinger comes around again and they go on another adventure against Mo's wishes. This book is something that you need to read especially if you have read Inkheart.

When Dustfinger finds Orpheus, a crooked storyteller who can read him back to Inkscape, he leaves his apprentice Farid behind. Farid seeks out Meggie and the two follow him back into the enchanted book. A Science Fiction Book Club selection.
Again, I wouldn't recommend for the younger kids (though mine listened to it in the car), but it is such a great story. I liked the reader for Inkdeath better but grew to like this one as well.
