Although a year has passed, not a day goes by without Meggie thinking of Inkheart, the book whose characters came to life and changed her life forever.
But for Dustfinger, the fire-eater brought into being from words, the need to return to the tale has become desperate. When he finds a crooked storyteller with the ability to read him back, Dustfinger leaves behind his young apprentice Farid and plunges into the medieval inkscape once more.
Distraught, Farid goes in search of Meggie, and before long, both are caught inside the book, too. There they meet Inkheart's author, Fenoglio, now living within his own story. But the tale is much changed, and threatening to evolve in ways none of them would ever have imagined. Will Meggie, Farid, and Fenoglio manage to write the wrongs of a charmed world? Or is their story on the brink of a very bad ending?
This book has been split into two volumes. Have you listened to Volume 1?
Cornelia Funke is a multiple award-winning German illustrator and storyteller, who writes fantasy for all ages of readers. Amongst her best known books is the Inkheart trilogy. Many of Cornelia's titles are published all over the world and translated into more than 30 languages. She has two children, two birds and a very old dog and lives in Los Angeles, California.
I have like -5 memory of this book but from what I recall it was one of those books that dealt with the aftermath of Inkheart, which was pretty well developed in my opinion because it mostly went through what Meggie thought of the situation. Plus it really built up the other characters from what I remember—particularly on Farid—which I loved because he was one of those characters that I was like “PLEASE COVER HIM”. The fact that I still remembered this even years later testifies to how well he was explored. I also kind of remember Fegnolio from this piece, but it wasn’t as intense as in book 3 which I had OPINIONS about, but let’s just save that for the 3rd book’s review.
Dark and disturbing; it starts with a mistake and then, regardless of the long winded plot, ends with a mistake (no character development for Maggie whatsoever). alas! I really wanted to like her... The narration by Brendan Fraser did nothing to make this story more endearing, unfortunately. Hope the third book will nonetheless be more enjoyable.
I really enjoyed Inkspell but it was ruined by Violantes birthmark making her ugly. I have a birthmark just like hers on my face and it made me feel really bad about myself. Especially when they resolved it by having the writer “write-out” her birthmark.

I'm not quite finished listening to this the tale and narration has captivated me. As a fantasy author myself, the premiss of this story delights my creative juices. A story having a life of its own, and a reader being permitted to insert themselves into the story. . . fabulous speculations that make me say, "if only!" Mrs. Funke beautifully weaves the world inside the book and convincingly gets people from our world to travel within its pages. I listened to this story first because it was what was available from the library. Of course, I have to get the other two books and read them SOON. So much fun!
It was a very well written book. This author does a good job at keeping the readers attention. I really loved this book, and so far I think this is my favorite of the trilogy.
