I read this book a long time ago once and the case hasn't let me go since. I personally am a believer of the conclusions in this book, which is that Maddie died in the apartment and was hidden by Gerrie.
It makes me wonder now how many hours it would take for a cadaver scent to develop. How long was Maddie dead, if she was?
I did notice a flaw. When writing about KG, who is a woman, because the author writes that she was pregnant or trying to get pregnant, but later is referenced to as male.
Also in Mallorca apparently all mothers had been allowing the men to give the children bath time, until David Payne made sexual hand gestures while talking about Madeleine and his own daughter? How naive were parents in 2007? And if almost feels like the entire town was full of pedos? Or is just because they started chasing the ones they knew so they could find a suspect. Or is Praia da Luz really a pedo paradise? In that case, one must ask the question why these rich surgeon parents even wanted to go on holiday in Praia da Luz in May when it was still fairly cold by the Atlantic.
David Payne seems to me like someone who is not mentioned enough in general in this whole case. Barely anyone knows he made those pedophaeliac remarks. I know another couple minded it, but Gerry and Kate didn't? I didn't understand why in the beginning the writer says that the McCanns did everything on foot and later he says that the detectives were going to properly search the McCanns car. What car? I may have missed the part though where they mention that upon return for the case, they did rent a car. I'm a skipper. But in case the author did forget I find it important to mention.
The fact that Jane saw a man with a child wearing a pyjama like Maddie, why would she even say that, and lie about his direction, if she was in it, like everyone else? If she saw him, then why did they wait to alarm everyone like the author said? Would be easier to say you didn't see anyone, or is Jane truely oblivious? Did she not see that it was Gerrie carrying his own daughter, from his clothes? This makes me wonder if Gerry went to change his clothes while hiding Maddie?
The fact that the entire friend group became chaotic long before that so called timing, to me it is so clear that what really happened is that one of the people found Madeline and they all started getting active to hide her body. Gerry hid the body, and Jane is in it, she just says she saw a stranger who kidnapped Madeline. They wanted to blame a strange man just in case. That is my theory. They were all in it. That, or, since they didn't check the apartment for 45 minutes, she got kidnapped early on that night, and they also all started panicking early and covering up. Whether she died or got kidnapped (the dogs make it clear that she died IN the apartment), they didn't check on her for a whole 45 minutes. Now anyone is innocent til proven guilty. And if the resort had a daycare, and can absolutely understand that some predators knew where to look. It is easy now to walk onto a resort, and it must have been even easier in 2007. I'm even surprised there was some footage. Unfortunately, none of the man who walked away with Maddie... too bad.
I don't like Garry and the fact that he owned CEOP books. I dont like that in pictures he looks up with his snooty face while other are holding a minute of silence.
I don't like how Gerry and Kate allowed David to speak about Madeline. And where was his wife in all this? And why do they stay with these predators?
Zeer aangrijpend.
