This was such a struggle to get through. I read the first book & expected this to be similar, but this was not good. Why are we doing ALL of our world building in book 2?? This easily could’ve been 200 pages shorter. I don’t think I’ll be reading the 3rd book.
Dnf@60%. I lived for the first two books. I liked the beginning of this book, but once the spice died down, I felt the story get stagnant. I kept forcing myself to keep going, but it felt like the pages went on forever. This story has a good plotline, so I would be willing to bet that the ending is fantastic, but I honestly, I'm tired of forcing myself to keep going.
I’ll start with the good I like Hudson and her sense of humor, she’s quite comical. The world building is nice. it’s packed full of adventure for sure you almost have whiplash from all the twists and turns so the book will keep you on your toes. I like it because I’m stingy and so is Hudson so it’s refreshing that she gets all the hot fae-meat packages for her self. I feel like I liked the first book more than this one, there was lots of double sentences, extra words, double words it could have used a second round of editing. I like the many view points at times but other times it honestly just feels like unnecessary fluff to be added. Like I can understand giving us hudson and maybe her mates a few times but then we’re jumping over to the villains mind and reliving everyone’s history then add in her Newley found sister and her view point and I’m just not entirely sure all that was needed to get to the end of this book to await the next book.
This is completely unfair! This is one of the best series I’ve dived into in a minute, and it ends on the biggest cliffhanger! I love every single thing about this. The characters are amazing, the storyline is unique, the growth is to die for, and I need more! Instead, Ruby Smoke makes me cry at the very end then sends me to a preorder link! Obviously, I did preorder, but I’m going to whine about it too because I don’t want to wait! Read it, now!!
Hudson continues to be a badass in the second book where hello hot and steamy spice comes into play 😍 as well as an unexpected surprise of pregnancy. She is determined to be the queen her people behind the Veil needs. I can’t wait for the next book to arrive to finish Hudson’s story.
