About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

எதிர்பாராத தன்மைதான் அவள் சிறப்பம்சம். இத்தனைக்கும் அழகி என்று உடனே சொல்லிவிடமுடியாது. பத்து நிமிஷம் உற்றுப் பார்த்துப் பேசினால் அவள் உண்மை அழகு புலப்படும். உயரமும் இல்லாமல் குள்ளமும் இல்லாமல் கச்சிதமான உடலமைப்பு. இடக்கைப் பழக்கம், aquiline nose (டிக்க்ஷனரியைப் பாருங்கள்). எல்லாவற்றிலும் ஓரளவுக்கு ஆர்வம். எதில் ஆர்வம் என்பது தினம் தினம் மாறும். ஒருநாள் இகேபானா, ஒருநாள் கர்நாடக சங்கீதம், ஒருநாள் சூடான் நாட்டு பட்டினிக் குழந்தைகள்."

The book started with a very good plot, and moved towards a sensitive issue. May be author would have thought since the novel main plot was on heart transplant (aptly named ullam thurandhavan), details on the climax need not be stretched but for reader it felt like finished too fast in a hurry. The setting to the climax and details of the villian were so good, but finishing that in 5 pages was great let down.

With sujathas novel there will be lot of mind play with matured characters around, though this had pinch of that in form on the hero azhagu and his mother, other characters were introduced and described in hurry except for the main villain nagu. The charater of nagu was good, explaination on taking over a companny are well described and politics around firms, sensex etc are given apt information. Part around rajan was bit too fast and too filimy.

Sujathas fan would like it, others might not find it impressive especially the second part of the novel. A decent read.

ஒரு சாதாரண, எதிபார்க்கக்கூடிய திருப்பங்கள் நிறைந்த தொடர்கதை உள்ளம் துறந்தவன். கல்கியில் தொடர்கதையாக வந்த இக்குறுநாவலை எழுதியது சுஜாதாவா என்று எண்ண வைக்கும் அளவுக்கு மிகவும் சுமாரான கதை இது.

தொடர்கதைக்காகவே எழுதப்பட்ட predictable twists, கதையை எப்படியாவது முடிக்கவேண்டுமே என்ற நோக்குடன் இறுதியில் நுழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள ஓரிரு கதாபாத்திரங்கள்... இப்படி பல குறைகள் நிறைந்த உள்ளம் துறந்தவன் கதையை படிக்காவிட்டால் ஒன்றும் பாதகமில்லை. Cameo appearance செய்யும் இறுதி கதாபாத்திரம் (ஸ்ரீராம்) கணேஷ் / வசந்த் ஆக இருந்திருந்தால் உள்ளம் துறந்தவன் நிச்சயம் ஒரு படி மேலே சென்றிருக்கும். Hmm..(பெருமூச்சு)

Excellent characterisation, I fell in love with both the taciturn, lovely protagonist and her eccentric, innocent boyfriend. Classic Sujatha ending, reminded me of Veniyin Kaathalan! 😭 The first half of the novel was jovial and lighthearted, the second half took me by surprise although I was expecting it after understanding he foreshadowing through the title. 🥲

ஒரு காலத்தில் சோறு தண்ணி இல்லாமல் மொட்டை மாடியில் வெயில் சுட்டெரிப்பதுகூட தெரியாமல் பொடி எழுத்துக்களில் படித்ததெல்லாம், வாரா வாரம் இதழ்களில் wait செய்து படித்ததெல்லாம், இன்று பார்க்கையில் எவ்வளவு சல்லிசாக சிறுபிள்ளைத்தனமாக இருந்திருக்கின்றது என்று தெரியும்போது நம் வளர்ச்சி நம்மை பெருமைகொள்ளவே செய்கின்றது. LKG படிப்பு இல்லாமல் Ph D பண்ண முடியாது. அதற்காக சுஜாதவிற்கு என்றுமே நன்றி

This was written, I think, in the later half of 1990s or early 2000s. Easy to connect as a 90s kid. Though a little predictable, the writing style of Sujatha keeps ourselves engaged with the book. One time read.

ஒரு பணக்கார தொழிலதிபர்,அவருக்கு ஒரு வளர்ப்பு மகள்,அவள் பெயர் மஞ்சரி. மஞ்சரி அல்லாது அவருடைய சொந்தப் பிள்ளைகளும் இருக்கிறார்கள்-இரு மகள்கள்,இருவருக்கும் திருமணமாகி திருமண வயதில் பிள்ளைகளும் இருக்கிறார்கள். அவருடைய மாப்பிள்ளைக்கு தன் மகனை மஞ்சரிக்கு திருமணம் செய்து வைக்க ஆசைப்படுகிறார், ஆசை அல்ல,பேராசை அது! பெரியவரின் சொத்தில் அதிகப் பங்கு மஞ்சரிக்கு இருப்பதால் தான்! வளர்ப்பு பெண்ணான மஞ்சரி மீது தான் பெரியவருக்கு அதிக பிரியம்,மஞ்சரிக்குப் பின் தான் சகலமும். அவருக்கு ஒரு இதய கோளாரு வருகிறது, அதை காரணம் காட்டி அவரது சொத்துக்களை அபகரிக்க ஒரு திட்டம். இதற்கு நடுவில் மஞ்சரிக்கு “அழகேசன்” என்ற ஏழை இளைஞன் மீது காதல் வருகிறது. பிறகு என்ன ஆகிறது என்பது தான் கதை.

மருத்துவம்,காதல்,சாதாரண காதல் அல்ல,சுஜாதாவின் வழக்கமான Intellectual நிறைந்த காதல், குடும்ப அரசியல் என எல்லாவற்றையும் உள்ளடக்கிய விறுவிறுப்பான ஒரு படைப்பு இது. வழக்கமான சுஜாதாவின் கதையைப் போலவே எந்த இடத்திலும் தொய்வில்லாமல் நகர்கிறது கதை. இதில் வரும் அழகேசன் மீது எல்லாருக்கும் காதல் வரும்! எல்லா தரப்பட்ட வாசகர்களும் படித்து ரசிக்கும் வகையில் இருக்கும் yet another சுஜாதா புத்தகம் இது.

This book from sujatha is a masterpiece I wud say.. Sujatha has incorporated knowledge on stock market, about books a character called azhageshan is about, and surgery medical terms.The story revolves around the concept of money minded ass people and certain offbeat characters like manjari who can be defined as reverse snobbery virtue she has got. Nice book for any sujatha fans.

Read when it came as a series in Kalki Magazine. A big let down, if I'm not wrong Sujatha's last novel/novella. The usual formula of his an intellectual boyfriend and a rich girl( A heiress).
I would say it a sloppy retelling of Anithavin Kadhalgal.
