Richard Hefter met children's author Jacquelyn Reinach in 1975. He was contracted at the time to write 26 books for the publishers Holt. After the contract expired he formed a publishing venture, Euphrosyne, with Reinach.

He is known as the creator of Stickybear and as the co-creator (with Reinach) and illustrator for the Sweet Pickles[1] library of books, and for the Strawberry Library of First Learning. The Sweet Pickles series went on to sell 40 million copies. Hefter described his aim as "trying to help children understand things like shyness, laziness and embarrassment in a humorous way."

Some days, you don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Moose feels like that most days. It can be hard to be around someone like that. Zebra comes up with a smart idea. He gives Moose buttons to wear to show if Moose is happy or sad. What if life could be that simple.

One of my favorite parts of Winnie the Pooh is when they invite Eeyore to a party. He doesn’t want to go and they convince him to go anyway. They don’t try and cheer him up, they simply let him be in his mood. I love that. Sometimes, it might not be easy, but to let a person simply be in their mood and let them be around people is a gift.

The kids are loving these sweet pickles books. They are giving them 5 stars.

I was trying to get inspiration with how to draw animals and I immediately remembered my old sweet pickle books from when I was a kid. These books are great quick reads with a positive message in each one. I love how these books are about different personalities and the message that it is ok to be yourself.
