I'm a Reiki practitioner. Sadly (or yay?) I got more out of reading this little book than I did from my Reiki classes and my half-hearted Reiki master. My Reiki has improved a lot with the bits I learned from David Vennells. (For instance, we were taught NOTHING about "setting intent" and using dedications!) I suppose some of the sources listed in the appendix are a tad out of date, the book came out in 1999, yet there is a lot about Reiki that remains solid and sound from one decade to the next. If you feel that your master might've missed a few things about using Reiki (though perhaps not about the history of Reiki, that's rather glossed over in the beginning, and frankly I'm so familiar with all the versions that I didn't do more than glance at it in this book)... uh... anyway, if you feel that you might've missed something about using Reiki, I recommend finding a copy of this helpful guide and getting to know yourself with Reiki. I tend to read/study one Reiki book after another, since I always feel like I'm "learning" it, and this was exactly what I needed at the time... funny, how books can find you when you didn't even know you were looking for them.

Overall this book is a good introduction to reiki. I really liked the examples gives from real life people at the end. :) Start of the book, however, was not as easy to read.

Eventhough I have finished reading, I go back and reread as this has had such an impact on me. I am thinking about actually going on a weekend retreat and engaging in this amazing healing process.

I had my first reiki treatment a couple weeks ago and I am hooked. This is a great introduction to reiki. I found it thoroughly enjoyable and readable, couldn't put it down really. I have now registered for Reiki 1 and 2 at a local center and this book gave me some great tips to prepare.

This books carries and delivers a fantastic shot of positivity. Throughout it is a calming balm, a positive drink of positive energy, of wisdom and peace. After a few pages I came to recognize I have been practicing reiki for many years, athough I have no idea what reiki is, the book however convinced me to have more confidence in what I do, to dedicate myself more to the job, to be more focused. I read this book just at the right time, I reckon.

For a person who wants to know what reiki is, I suppose a session is indicated, and more practical books, but for one who wants to be motivated about following a good path, this book is insuperable.

I you want to be calmer, energized, a better person, this is the book.

Annexes 1 and 2 should go. While it is clear that the author has benefitted from NKT's teachning and tharpa books to gain insights, understading and practice in Buddhism, and while it is patetnt pure Dharma rests in his heart, Annex 2 can't pass for a Buddhism bibliography. NKT is one of many Gelupga schools, itself of many tibetan schools. There are innumerable other sects and text, Theravada, Zen, Shingon etc......

I started this British book the day after my level I training. It deepened my understanding. This book doesn't waste a lot of space going on and on about the history, which quite frankly is irrelevant to the actual practice, and seems to be a bit different in each book. He gave a brief synopsis and moved right into reiki, as well as a lot of Buddhist philosophy.

I think this is a good intro for someone who has no previous knowledge on reiki, but it could never stand on it's own. After reading another book that focuses more on the actual Japanese practices, it's evident that most of the history portion of this book is incorrect. However, that being said, there were some helpful techniques and I gained a better understanding of reiki in general.

Good book to begin to understand our natural energy and how we can use.

This focuses more on Reiki as a business, which is great if that is what you're looking for. It is informative but not as much as other Reiki books.

So far, I am loving this book! It has cleared up some of the confusion I've run into regarding the origins & story of Reiki.
