Peter Christen Asbjørnsen was a Norwegian writer and scholar. He and Jørgen Engebretsen Moe were collectors of Norwegian folklore. They were so closely united in their lives' work that their folk tale collections are commonly mentioned only as "Asbjørnsen and Moe".

On the last day of the calendar winter, I have Norway for you all day with its trademark trolls, this time in fairy tales collected by Peter Kristen Asbjersen and Jorgen Mu. These are about the same famous Norwegian folklorists as the brothers Grimm in Germany, Charles Perrault in France and our Afanasyev.

So, Norwegian fairy tales, with the indispensable trolls, which are about everywhere in Norwegian folklore. They are cunning, insidious villains, but they also remain fools in most fairy tales. The book opens with a fairy tale about changelings, with which trolls replace beautiful human children, slipping in their ugly trolls instead. It turns out that they not only steal children, but also drag away human women to feed them. This story is about one of these girls.

But what I didn't know for sure was that Peer Gynt, it turns out, was not invented by Ibsen, but a cross-cutting character in Norwegian folklore, such a half-cultural hero, half-trickster, tricking trolls around his finger, defeating them and eventually ridding the neighborhood of them with the help of a trained polar bear.

В последний день календарной зимы у меня для вас весь день одна из самых северных стран: утром рассказывала о книге. действие которой происходит в Норвегии, а среди персонажей тролли, и вот вечер - снова Норвегия и снова тролли. На сей раз в сказках, собранных Питером Кристеном Асбьёрсеном и Йоргеном Му. Это примерно такие же знаменитые норвежские фольклористы, как братья Гримм в Германии, Шарль Перро во Франции и наш Афанасьев.. Но портреты фольклористов я сюда помещать не буду, в этой книжке слишком чудесные иллюстрации, покажу лучше их.

Итак, Норвежские сказки, с непременными троллями, которые в норвежском фольклоре примерно везде. Они хитрые коварные злодеи, но они же остаются в большинстве сказок в дураках. Открывает книгу сказка о подменышах, которыми тролли заменяют красивых человеческих деток, подсовывая взамен своих уродливых троллят. Оказывается они не только детей крадут, но еще и человеческих женщин утаскивают, чтобы те их кормили. Вот об одной из таких девушек эта история.

Сказка о "Колобушке" очень похожа на Мальчика-с-пальчик, который обводит вокруг пальца великанов и возвращается к родителям с богатством. Только вместо великанов ожидаемо тролли.

А в "Белом медведе, короле Валемоне" соединяются мотивы "Аленького цветочка" и легенды об Амуре и Психее - сначала красавица принцесса хочет необычный подарок, а потом, полюбив и потеряв своего суженого, ищет его по свету. Ну и в финале чистый "Финист--Ясный Сокол"

А вот чего я совершенно точно не знала - так это того, что Пер Гюнт, оказывается, не придуман Ибсеном, а сквозной персонаж норвежского фольклора, такой наполовину культурный герой, наполовину трикстер, обводящий троллей вокруг пальца, одерживающий над ними победу и в конечном итоге - избавляющий от них округу при помощи дрессированного белого медведя.

Сказка "Знакомец" почти в точности такая же встречалась мне у Ганса Христиана Андерсена, но это и не удивительно - скандинавские страны. Но немного там и от нашего "Ивана Царевича на Сером Волке", хотя у норвежцев кругом действует волчица - почему-то такой матриархат. И вот еще, вместо тщуки русских народных сказок, в норвежских лосось.

Чудесная книга с дивными иллюстрациями Ольги Йонайтис. Я от души любовалась.

An entertaining collection of fables, some dark and some more along the lines of humorous myth. Lessons conveyed include timeless “what comes around goes around” warnings, the grim price of betrayal, and the winnings earned by determination despite negative circumstances. I would have appreciated more details about the origin of each tale. Some tales are told multiple times with subtle variations, leading to redundant reads that nonetheless suggest an evolution of stories over time.
