Jeremiah: Reading the Prophet in His Time--And Ours

Rate this book
"While Holladay has written widely and helpfully on other topics, his intensive work on the prophet Jeremiah remains one of the most important contributions to the study of that book, and especially to our understanding of the prophet Jeremiah in relation to the book ascribed to him. In Reading the Prophet in His Time and Ours, Holladay seeks to connect the message of the book of Jeremiah 'to the life and experiences of the prophet and his times. No one in contemporary Jeremiah studies has worked as assiduously at that enterprise.'" from the Foreword by Patrick D. Miller

The book of Jeremiah is not arranged in chronological order, and William Holladay has attempted to organize the book chronologically and provides the basis for his editorial decisions. As a result of this format, it can be a bit tricky to find his commentary on a specific chapter or group of verses. I tried to use this commentary in conjunction with a Bible study I was leading on Jeremiah and gave up because I did not have the time to hunt through it. After I had finished the study, I read the commentary as a personal review to help reinforce what I had been learning for the previous few months.
