Klippity Klop by Ed Emberley is a progressive tale like We're Going on a Bear Hunt.
The knight goes through grass and over stones etc until he runs into a dragon at which point he very quickly retraces his footsteps.
Ed Emberley uses words to describe the sounds of the grass, stones etc using only words that begin with the letter k.

Charming! Reminiscent of Going on a Bear Hunt, Prince Krispin sets off with his horse, Dumpling. They klippity klop down the road, kerplash kerplosh across the stream, klumpity klump over the bridge, kwish kwash through the field, krinch krunch over the gravel, and klick klack up a rocky hill, where suddenly they meet a ferocious dragon. A hasty retreat takes them home again, klicking and klacking and krinching and krunching at warp speed.
I wish I'd had this book when my kids were little. I know they would have loved it. (One of them did sit down next to me this weekend and let me read it out loud. The sound effects are fantastic!)
This would be an excellent gift for new parents or a preschooler's birthday.

Originally published in 1974, this book brings to life the story of an adventure that young Prince Krispin and his horse, Dumpling go on.
Emberley's enchanting illustrations not only tell the story, but the words themselves become a part of the story as they weave in and out of the images.
From the very beginning, we see Prince Krispin's horse, Dumpling, "klippity klopping" down the road, the words literally making a path on the ground where the horse had trod.
The shading and simple line drawings bring this story to life. I love all of the details that Emberley includes in his illustrations, from the tiny flowers to the frogs croaking.

Very cute little story with some excellent sound effects for each page. I'm sure kids would LOVE this book.

I love this little book - it was great fun to read to my kids, especially if you're good with making sounds as the story klippity klops on its way.
