I loved this book because of the tremendous detail - which is why some people would not enjoy it. I loved reading about the early days in Castleford. My great grandfather, John Hanson, was Mayor there, and the first person in town who bought a horseless carriage. So I am told! Moore was an amazing genius - how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy his work today.
Good, but I think there is probably a better Henry Moore book out there. Infuriating at times, you cannot have a whole paragraph or page devoted to the genesis, creation, installation and reaction to a sculpture and not have a single photo of it. I know Moore was prolific, but for the major pieces at least one photo is needed to remind even die-hard fans which one that is.. Must get back to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park soon, wonderful place to see Moores.
His was a perfectly interesting, and impressive, life. His story was presented well enough. But that's how it felt, a little bland. I am a one time big fan, and still appreciate him, but cannot say I would give this book high praise. It gave me the information of his life, but did not leave me wanting to hunt down his sculpture in Toronto. If I am there, I will look, but it does not inspire me to pilgrimage.
