Quote from the Introduction: "This book aims to provide you with a wide range of new ideas, perspectives, and practices available in your back pocket so you can be even more empowered in this challenging world."
Finding Your Calm : 12 methods to release anxiety, relieve stress and restore peace was an absolutely interesting book. I marked a lot of things and learned so much more even. There's so much going on from different perspectives - no matter if you look at your body or your brain, what kind of human you are and so on. It really fascinated me to read about all those things! The things that can influence you although don't notice it right away and how you can deal with stress, anxiety and the peace. It's a really important topic nowadays because everything's so fast and everyone wants more - more fame, more money, more love, more acceptance or just a purpose. When you know how you can deal with all that, you can concentrate on your health, your happiness and believe in yourself.
Although there were a lot of good chapters, I also had a few chapters I honestly skipped because they didn't catch my interest. All in all a really enjoyable read!
Thanks a lot to Llewellyn Publishing for this ARC via NetGalley. This is my honest review in my own words.
I was disappointed in the content and writing style of Finding your Calm: Twelve Methods to Release Anxiety, Relieve Stress & Restore Peace. Several of the chapters lacked references and contained overly simplistic and generalized descriptions and claims. The frequent use of second person language, making assumptions that may not be applicable to every reader, could result in a disengagement of readers from the material. The final chapter, “Amplifying Joy and Gratitude Through Mindfulness,” was particularly difficult to read, characterized by an incoherent structure fleeting from one disparate subject to the next. On the whole, there is a certain lack of credibility in the authors' assertions. However, I found the chapters that described the vagus nerve and EFT to be insightful and practical; each of these sections included citations to back the authors' claims, useful exercises for the reader to practice, and a more professional tone and style. The inclusion of these elements in the remainder of the book would have increased its quality.
Thank you NetGalley and Llewellyn Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I could not have received this book at a more apt time in my life. I am recovering from knee surgery and it has been a long, challenging battle. Reading this has opened my eyes to many different ways of healing. From the first few pages, I found myself highlighting many key phrases, quotes, and insightful ideas. I hope to take many of these positive techniques and exercises and apply them to my everyday life. I thought it was a great concept to have 12 different experts write 12 different ways of finding calmness. I was amazed at how emotional I got whilst reading certain chapters. I am not that kinda lady. So...take it from moi, it is a powerful read!
This is a great read if you are ready to dive into your body and how to help it release trauma and stress. Most people have come to realize that there are certain areas of your body that hold onto stress. Some may or may not realize that we do the same with trauma. I enjoyed the variety of essays and methods that are presented in this book. The writing styles of the authors all seemed to flow with the overall subject of the book. I adore this cover and the big CALM letters! I think it will appeal to a wide range of readers. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Four stars.
This is a great compilation of techniques for relaxing. Who doesn’t need to relax with how things are so crazy in the world these days?
What I like most is that there are a collection of approaches and each author takes you through their selected practice and leaves you with tools to help you find the peace within.
Took me a while to finish this book but i think it shouldn't be rushed anyway. It is a compilation of various ways to reach a calm state by various practioners/teachers. If one reads it like a novel it can easily be overwhelming because majority are different. This is a great resource for someone who is opened to exploring to finding what works for them.
I will read anything about anxiety as I have dealt with my own my whole life. This was a great book especially concerning the Vagus Nerve. I have been reading the connection it has to anxiety symptoms. Thank you for the advanced copy..
I thought this book had a lot of great, helpful information and tips. I really liked the essential oil mixtures for aroma therapy. All in all I did enjoy this self help book.
There are so many wonderful tips and techniques in this little guide to Finding Your Calm, from meditation to mindfulness, aromatherapy to Chakra work, and so much more. I was particularly intrigued by the section about the vagus nerve, as it's something I've heard many Doctors and practitioners speak about. The following is a quote that really jumped out at me. "Self-care is what gave me my own wings and the power to save myself. Learning to fill my own cup is what set me free from the pits of despair of anxiety and depression. It was that monumental for me and it can be that monumental for you too!"
