This is simply an amazing book. The story never falters and the characters are richly drawn and pitch perfect. Originally read this back in 1983 and it has long been one of my all time favorites. The early books in this wonderful series are outstanding and will always live in my heart. If you get the chance to read these-do it. Heroism, bravery, cowardice, treachery it is a grand story that has everything you could possibly want.

Fair "sword and sandal" biblical epic concerning Jacob's return to Canaan. Main characters are two brothers, metalworkers, one who is an arrogant and uncaring armorer, the other who is a kind, but crippled, artist who works with gold. Book is full of barbaric nomads, the dance of the seven veils, and cruel crimes of war.

Again I am entranced with these children of the lion books. I am currently on number 5 in the 20 book series. I can't put them down.

Very slow start. Great story, with biblical elements. Very violent in places with an excess of prurience. Satisfying ending of hope-tinged bleakness. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

My grandmother had the entire collection. I read it nearly 20 years ago. It was okay. Nothing particularly memorable.

The book was not a disappointment. Although there were a lot of gaps between this and book 1

I'm interested in the Sea People nomads, but the Shepherd Kings help me to understand how these overland nomads can have an impact on the people living in BC, long before Sparta.
