This wasn't supposed to happen. I was supposed to glide through senior year unnoticed and ride into the sunset on the back of my aunt's inflated bank account. I was supposed to be in control.
Now they are.
The trials will last 60 days. They can happen anytime, anyplace, and anyone or anything is fair game. I won't see them coming. I'll need to be ready at all times. Prepared to fight, to steal, to save, and to kill at Diesel St. Crow's command.
While I sit on standby, he's ordered his sons to keep an eye on me, and they've become my own personal wardens.
Corvus, Rook, and Grey. Their watchful stares will make destroying them from the inside harder than I planned for.
But as truths are dragged out of the shadows and new dangers emerge, I may be forced to accept that they are more than armed roadblocks in my path. They might also be my only hope of survival.

I don't like Ava Jade which is a problem because she's the Main Character. Writers needs to understand that Rude Characters =/= from "Strong Characters" (which is a term that I hate because every woman is strong, she doesn't need to throw blades to be strong). Ava Jade was rude, she wouldn't let the boys explain themselves (it happened more than once in the book and it had me rolling my eyes and getting even more annoyed at her), she would carry her friend everywhere with her knowing that she was putting her in danger by associating with her. She was stupid in various occasions, and I hate how authors give the characters an injury and the next day forgets about it, the girl rips a muscle on her knee, and gets an arrow through her shoulder and the next day she's killing all these gang members (another thing that irritates me is how the gang members just gets dumb to make the FMC seem so amazing). Also how she was so pale and could barely stand but then starts to order the boys and get all rude with them after the Hunt trial was just annoying and the boys deserve someone better.

This book made me realize something that I hate on books that are set on an Academy type scenario, the INSTANT BEST FRIEND, it never feels genuine how someone that's apparently so guarded to the world just find this person that in a month or less they would change everything for, that makes them treat the Heroes badly. This instant best friend are mostly there only to make the FMC to go to parties and be used against the FMC in a kidnaping kind of plot, it's annoying, I'm still waiting for a ground breaking book where this instant friend will turn into a villain instead, but no, they're just the bubbly friend that doesn't add anything to the story.

The boys don't get any development at all, their love for AJ came out of nowhere, they only had one dimensional personalities, the cranky, the stoner/drinker and the peace maker.

This book was so dull that I would get sleepy while reading it, and it took me so long to read it when a book this size would take me no more than 2 days. It only picked up on the last chapter and was it, the trials were annoying, the end was annoying, I didn't cared about who was AJ stalker because he/she dissapeared mid book, she doesn't have chemistry with any of the boys.

I Honestly had higher expectations considering the premises of book 1. AJ became more annoying and the plot seems not to progress.
The only gem is Corvus (yeah,I like grumpy characters😂)

Book 2 immediately commences with Ava's being with the guys, Grey, Corvus, and Rook. They are awaiting her expected trials as a result of the bargain Grey was able to negotiate. The guys were willing and enthusiastic to have her in their mix. Unfortunately, however, this was not the story for me.

I found the plot line not as progressive given the little events that occurred but more, Ava was simply untenable. Where I might have initially felt humor at some of her antics, she simply became annoying. She was no longer simply feisty, but over the top alpha, impulsive, and the constant blade throwing, irritating -- she was just reckless in the face of reason. There was a lack of balance in dominance and submission. For instance, Grey lost his alpha sleeping on the floor for Ava instead of their having her to stay with them; after all they had already saved her from death. The guys did not take charge over Ava. Add to that, the book contained little steam.

Slow, boring, and uneventful with filler content, and the heroine was annoying af. Not a fan.

intense, fast paced, steamy, a freaking wild ride, deliciously dark
thank God, Ava Jade is still a bad ass
and I’m obsessed with these boys
I’m still in love with Grey and Corvus is growing on me
But: Rook … oh my … I need help. he is absolutely perfect.
violent, borderline, creepy and brutal, as is the sex with him … bloody … I’m beyond words here 💞💞💞
surprising ending
I’m not amused, but thankfully the next book is already there
I’m happy, I didn’t find this series earlier … I hate cliffhangers!!!

It’d been there from the start, her spark. I thought it would be the end of us, but I was wrong. She was the ember that would ignite us, spurring us into a forest fire that would eat all our enemies away, render them to ashes. We would burn together. 😍😍😍

I unbuttoned his jeans, rushing to lower the zipper. Wanting to see what I could feel through his jeans. To free it.
Rook’s cock sprang free, nudging against my palm. Hot and thick and harder than steel. Lined with a row of frenum piercings running up the base like a ladder.

Where was the chemistry between the characters? It was such a bland book. No sexual tension, nothing, and, zilch. I couldn't l feel their attraction to one another, it was so boring.
The FMC pissed me off and it was the same story I have read in RH books over and over again I.e. main character who is closed off makes an instant best friend, three guys- one sweet, one rude alpha cranky man, and another a psycho( which is the only one I love in this entire series)
Ugh
This book was like a mixture of Featherstone academy ( trials) and MK series( stalker ) I said what I said!

Disappointing

I will not be reading the last one. It's very disappointing what happens in the end. Not to mention how difficult Ava is through 8ut the whole book making mountains out of mole hills.

Nobody likes a snitch.

A fast paced, steamy action filled ride ahead 😍

OH my.. This one kept me on the edge of my seat during the entire book. We see this continues from where book 1 ended.

Now Ava Jade has to partake in the so called trials for the crows to become a part of the crew and also for saving her life.

But this trials seem to be twisted mind games but also testing ava jade for her loyalty, her resilience among other things.

AJ was a champ in the way she's fearless in not only handing the crow boys but also going through the trials and barely surviving.

Also I loved how she has fun amidst all this and definitely keeps all three crow boys on their toes for sure.

But there's also a stalker on the prowl and it is getting more dangerous when you have no idea who's watching you from behind the scenes.

Also there's one shocker for AJ that also left me like 😲😲 when she finds out things. About what she loves and never expecting to find the who behind it.

OMG... That twist out of left field at the end, I so didn't see that coming. There's just so much happening and then oh my..that ending was sure crazy and I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book.

What a freaking wild action filled ride this one was. Loved this one. ❤️❤️❤️

There were times when I felt like AJ was being a bit extreme and was pushing the guys away for no reason. But I get it. I mean, self destructive shit and all that. I also understand where her deep seated hatred for gangs comes from...I'd prolly do the same if I were her. The guys were pretty good in this book tho. I could feel myself warming up to them haha. Excited to see where their story goes from here🙂

I’m not a huge fan of her back and forth between loving the guys and hating them. Can’t she make up her mind. And the miscommunication trope ugh annoyed now.

4.5 ⭐ rounding up

Dark contemporary RH with anti-heroes, gangs and enemies-to-lovers angst told in Multi-POV 🖤 broken characters and psycho Hs and a strong FMC with a survivor’s spirit who is as quick to distrust as the Hs and has her own inner darkness that might just be a match for theirs. 🖤😈🖤

Book 2 picks up right where the last book, Crooked Crows, left off. Ava Jade is entered into The Trials, and we really see her skills, endurance and perseverance in action, even with the odds stacked against her. While she is still resistant to trusting the guys, we see them start to open up more to her, with moments of raw honesty that I loved. I was ready for Ava Jade to let down some of her walls, share some raw honesty of her own, realize that her darkness matches theirs and they can be stronger together - but she's not quite there yet. With everything going on between the Trials and Diesel, I can understand her remaining guarded - I'm just ready for the growth and progression.

I did find myself rolling my eyes at AJ a bit more in this book, when I rarely did in the last one. There was a lot of "I can take care of myself / I'll do what I want" attitude - and while I totally get that she doesn't want to be controlled or be viewed as weak, to me, this isn't showing strength. I hope she finds a way to balance out her need to stand on her own with finding strength in others. She also seems to think she needs to deliver payback to Corvus for how he's treated her, which *shrug* I don't really get. She's not ready to let go of revenge or the rage burning inside her, which goes well beyond The Crows or the Saints. Meanwhile, Diesel gets muck for not trusting her, and while he's likely got some things wrong about her, he's not totally wrong either - she shouldn't be trusted.

Corvus, Grey, and Rook totally enthralled me in Book 1 and I loved seeing a bit of growth with each of them. There is still more that I'd like learn about the guys. I know that they are fiercely protective of those they choose as family, and they are including AJ in that, even while she fights them. I just want to go deeper.

This is book 2 in a continuing series. There is a cliffhanger, but IMO it's completely manageable. It left me eager for the next book, which I've already pre-ordered.

Book 2 in the Boys of Briar Hall series hit hard and fast! It is just as much of a binge-worthy read as the first book. It draws you in and then sucker-punches you with a hell of a cliffhanger.

Diesel St Crow has decreed that Ava Jade must complete the trials to join the Saints. It is that, or she dies. However, if she fails the trials, she also dies. If she passes the trials, she will be so deep in the gang that she will never be able to leave. The Crows are the jailers who won’t let her one moment alone. She belongs to them now.

The boys continue working their way through her walls, and she still hates how she is attracted to them. She cannot let some hot s3x and similar inner demons distract her from her ultimate goal of the downfall of all gangs. But her resolve is cracking. I loved watching her internal battle as she tried to keep them from getting under her skin and letting them into her heart.

This is a more plot-driven romance. The overall smut level is medium, and the scenes have good spice. There is some kink in the form of blood/knife play and delightful peen piercings. I hope to see more scenes in the upcoming books – perhaps a group scene.

I am absolutely loving the stalker side story! Who is this mystery person who knows so much about Ava Jade? How is he witnessing all these moments in her life, and how will they ever catch him?

This has been a great series so far! I look forward to more.

Book 2 was so good! We got a little more info and a whole lot more questions!! I love the twists and turns in this series, you seriously never know what’s going to happen!

Ava Jade is forced to go through the trials to become a Crow, or die. I’m not sure they understand who they’re messing with though…She is one bada$$ fmc who has always had to fight, and will do no less now! I caught myself laughing a few times at Ava’s paybacks to the boys, she is legit clever as hell! She has to go through these trials, and every test so far feels rigged with the intent for her to fail.

I’m really curious to find out who’s stalking, what happened in her past, and why everyone keeps coming at her! And please…let those boys get their girl!! I mean damn those crows are hot and psycho! I can’t wait for the next book!

I’m loving this series. It’s full of action and pretty good storyline. I think the thing I love the most is that the main character, Ava Jade, is strong willed. While she is getting closer to the guys and letter her walls down a bit, she doesn’t crumble for them and just fall like so many other books.
In the end she is still doing things for her, and not based off the feelings she is developing for the guys!

I can’t wait to read the next book!

Read this on 6/28/22.

I am disappointed in how things are going with this story. For like 90 percent of this book, AJ is pissed and standoffish. She doesn't trust the guys. But she goes along with the Trials while she tries to figure out her next move. She keeps waffling back and forth - will she help them, will she turn them in, will she kill them... her instincts have her leaning towards "Killer" every time she feels threatened. She is even enjoying the killing now.
She hooks up with each guy once, and has these fleeting, tender & meaningful moments w them..but then she gets mad all over again that they are worming their way in. She definitely has a lot of issues. And I'm not thrilled with how little romance / spice there actually was in this book.
The guys are all 100% in with her now but she just won't believe them.
What it comes down to is: will their love for her outweigh their love for their father figure, Diesel? Note that Diesel is really just an annoying piece of shit in this book. He wants AJ dead so that she's not able to lead his boys astray or some shit, so he rigs the Trials to get her killed and/or to turn the boys against her.
Dieael gets his wish in the end when AJ has to choose between saving her best friend or showing her loyalty & support to the gang..(the BFF Becca was dating a rival gang member in secret and feeding him info about the Saints; Diesel plays a recording of Becca to get AJ to admit that Becca was a traitor to the Saints and let her be killed, but instead AJ saves Becca and threatens / maims the Saints who get in her way.
The boys show up right at the end, but AJ knows they won't choose her over Diesel. They're already making excuses for him. So AJ leaves in the car she stole from Corvus, driving her and Becca away from the Saints.
In the end, she messages the cop (Vick), agreeing to set up a meeting.

This book plays on your emotions by ratcheting up the drama every time these stubborn fucking characters keep choosing to "play their cards close to their chest" and causing more and more misunderstandings and breeding so much mistrust, it's a wonder they can even stand to be around each other for 3 seconds.

It reminds me of the Madison Kate books in some ways. Archer and Corvus are 2 peas in a pod. They infuriate their leading ladies by being so stoic, bossy, and overprotective. Except I find Kody and Max to be way more likeable characters, compared to Grey and Rook... Grey is too much of a pushover, and Rook is too much of a loose cannon. They're a little one- dimensional and not really worth keeping me on the hook for. I'm not sure if I'll continue on to the 3rd book from here.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the second book in the Boys of Briar Hall Series from Elena Lawson. You can not read this book as a standalone as it is a second book. You will need to read Crooked Crows first. This is also a dark gang romance and it will hold triggers for some readers. You need to heed the warnings before diving in. I could not wait to get this book in my hands as I was so needing to know what was going to happen to Ava Jade. After all she has seen to much and now Diesel has declared that she needs to go through the trials where you either pass or you die. I was a nervous wreck to go into this book and I didn't lay it down once I started it. It is a fast paced book that at times will have you on the edge of your seat. Ava Jade is one tough female character that would just as soon cut you as to look at you. She has the boys, Covus, Rook and Grey who are trying their best to figure her out and at the same time keep her safe. But is anyone ever really save. Then you have to mystery of who is the Unknown Sender of the text messages that Ava Jade has been getting. You have to read this book to find out what happens. I can't really talk about the story as I am afraid I'd give something away. I am loving this series and to say I need the next book now is a understatement.

Yoooooo this book was fantastic. It only took me so long to read because I started reading but knew I wouldn't want it to end so I kept putting it down. Honestly, the minute I picked it up and really got into it I finished it in just a few hours.

I loved it I loved it I loved it.

Twisted characters, insane action, and ridiculous suspense, what more could you want? Corvus, Rook, and Grey are some of the best morally grey anti-heroes I've read in a long while, and they're so honest in their intentions it hurts my heart. Yeah, they're criminals, and yeah, they keep secrets, but these boys are ALL in with our girl AJ and I am enamored. It's hard to remember sometimes that these doofuses are in school and only somewhere between 18-20 and so when Ava Jade has her flip-floppy moments it is a bit jarring and slightly immature, but then I remind myself she's young, she's been through a lot, and it makes sense. She came to Thorn Valley to get away from gangs and yet winds up right back in the middle of one.

If you're here for the steamy scenes, you will be disappointed. This book is far more about plot and suspense than anything else, but the moments you do get are so good and the tension the rest of the time is borderline painful, so Lawson makes it worth it.

Also this ending physically pained me. Legitimately. I am in intense emotional pain. I cannot wait for Twisted Games.

The story picked up from where things left off with Ava being forced to take Crow trials to become a member. Refusal to do so would end in death, not that Diesel didn't do everything in his power to make that happen with his unfair trials.

This story took so long to finish because I'm swarmed with work and school, but a large part had to do with being bored. In the beginning, I liked that Ava was a strong, tough heroine who could defend herself but as the story progressed I'd hoped that she would soften toward the guys a little. That didn't happen much. The guys felt a lot less Alpha to me, letting her walk all over them and sleeping on the floor. Rook was my favorite though since I'm drawn to his darkness.

One of my main issues was the insta friendship between Ava and Becca. No way a girl like Ava with major trust issues would become so close with someone she barely knew so fast. There was no natural progression with their friendship in the first book, so the bestie shit felt like it came out of nowhere. It made me dislike the way Ava insisted on Becca coming with her. She spent too much time using Becca as a barrier against the guys. The worst part was when Becca started ordering the guys around. They were supposed to be badasses. I wanted them to shut her shit down hard, but they caved because Ava made them soft. Where were the scary assholes from the first book? I had so much high hopes that weren't met and I'm disappointed. Not sure I'll read the rest of the books.

Wicked Trials picks up where Crooked Crows ended. I need to know who is Ava Jade stalker that keeps sending her texts. I have no clue or any idea who it could be. There is still so much readers do not know about her past. Little by little getting glimpse of her past and the guys. Rook that guy is crazy, it all came out in this book and love it. Grey is still the peacemaker and adore him. It was nice seeing Corvus the grouch open up a little to her that she has no idea how to take it. His book is next and so excited.

Well this book went in a whole different direction with Corvus and only something his brothers know about and totally was not expecting.

Some good twist and can not wait to see how everything plays out. Must be read com order.

Highly Recommend Series

Strap Yourself In For Kick A… Ava Jade and the Crow Boys of Thorn Valley

*Spoilers Ahead *
The second book in the ‘Boys of Briar Hill & we are back.

Back in Thorn Valley, back to the ‘merciless world of the Kingpins’

The Saints of Thorn Valley, The Iron Aces of Edgewood, or the Kings of Lennox...

This is also the book where Ava Jade reaffirm her position within the ‘nest’ of Crow boys. Reluctantly agreeing to ‘The Trials’ to make her transition complete becoming one of them.

Corvus
Rook
Grey (Greyson)

The boys that fought against her in book one, now want to fight FOR her.
They want her to be their’s.
All claiming her.
They want her to complete the ritual of ‘The Trials’ becoming a crow.

However, their father Diesel St Crow isn’t so sure.
He thinks AJ, is secretive, hiding something & doesn’t like this new hold she has over ‘his boys’

His sons, all adopted, raised as Saints.
He hopes as they come of age they will one day take his last name as their own & all be St Crows.
And AJ is having far to much control & influence over them.
Influence that should ONLY becoming from HIM.

All the guys are intrigued by the feisty, smart mouthed, brave girl with a love of knives,
With her (pardon the pun) sharp edges, & don’t-give- a-F attitude.
They all also want to have her, & claim her as their own.
This causes a few problem as Jealousy rears it’s head.
(Yeah a I KNOW right a ‘Why choose’ novel where the guys actually get jealous! Who would have thought it.)

Grey, her first, becomes annoyed at the attention his brother give her and she gives them.
Especially the dangerous, psychopathic, dark prince Rook, who has been known to leave his women, bloody, bleeding and sated.

Corvus the alpha, the leader, (the shhh…secret rock star)…guy who’s control, at times, turns into bullying , as he try’s to come to terms with his true feelings for AJ, has issues with the fact that she chose his brothers as her ‘firsts’.

Then we have AJ (Ava Jade)
AJ wants out of the gang life.
Streetwise beyond her years, raised by a father who taunt her fighting skills, but also played guitar, and encouraged her to sing, was a gambler who made poor choices, not helped by a mother who was an addict.

As Diesel suspected, AJ is working against them.
Not so much the three crazy guys that have taken up real estate in her head, as the gang they are affiliated with, The Saints, and by Saint, we mean Diesel.

There is a possibility he may have been involved in the death of her father, but regardless, AJ is fed up with the gangs and all the death, all the women without husbands and children without parents that get caught in the crossfire.
She is sick of the death and violence.
So, while she works with policemen Vicks, she becomes closer to the guys, and becomes more, and more conflicted.

If all THAT wasn’t enough, she also is STILL dealing with her STALKER from the first book.

Only differences being, now the guys have found out, creating an untenable situation for AJ as they now refuse to let her out of their sights.

Then lingering in the background are ‘The Trials’ that Diesel has set up for her to become a Crow.
Trials HE secretly hopes she won’t survive.

Wow! This book has it all.

First up.

I am not a big fan of RH as the ‘throuple’s ‘ relationships always descend into the same old, same old territory with authors getting off on the multiple couple ‘sex scenarios’
It just seems a little weird to me. (don’t judge)

That said, and with this book now in that genre, I don’t mind the way in which Author, Elena Lawson has handled it in this book.

Okay we still got the sexually adventurous Rook hinting to the guys that sharing is good for their well-being and Grey DOES admit that this is something the ‘brothers’ have done before, but I really hope that isn’t the case here, and they all keep things ..Separate. ( please)

The rest of this plot is brilliant, and I’m really enjoying the indestructible AJ.
I was a little worried about our girl there for a hot minute when I thought she had gotten soft on us.
But she came back at the end.

I loved that this series flipped the relationship scenario too.
Meaning, it was the three guys that were enamoured with AJ.
Pursuing HER and, in the beginning, she was just like, what EVER putting her mission FIRST… ( before she got feelings)

One point I DID have a problem with THOUGH, was how she dealt with Becca.
Let’s just say, THAT whole situation would have been a friendship deal breaker for me.
However, AJ is so needy, for a female bestie she rationalised the whole thing until she could justify not letting her GF suffer.

Interesting to see where the next book takes us now AJ has the dirt on Diesel and how her relationship with the guys and Becca will play out in regard to this.
After THAT ending.

PLUS!
How the guys will deal with the man that has been a father to them, and how their loyalties will be tested.
FYI, I have a feeling the guys haven’t/ won’t let AJ stray too far from them.
But how will they deal with Becca now

March 2022, can’t come soon enough.

That ending…

I swear Ava can’t catch a break. The trials she has to endure are insane. You can’t help but feel like Diesel is not completely wrong in his instincts that Ava is going to ruin them. I mean he’s not technically wrong, but his over the top behavior is just excepted by the guys and I can’t really get down with that. I mean if they care about her the way they are claiming, how can they just sit back and allow these crazy scenarios to happen. Him being the boss or not I feel like it’s clear he loves them. They should be able to stand their ground as far as how hard he is coming for her. At the end of the day, he is to blame for her actions going forward. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next book for sure.

I am so glad I stumbled across Crooked Crows because this series just gets better and better.

If I thought I couldn't put down book one, book 2 was glued to my hands for the entirety of me reading it!

Elena is an amazing writer, who writes some fantastic bad boys who have a soft side for their girl. It was great to see more of the relationship unfold between the harem and to have a few secrets revealed and questions answered from the first book.

I can't express enough how you need to read this series if you are fans of MK by Tate James, Harlequin Crew by Peckham and Valenti and any gang/mafia book like that. You will love crooked crows as much as you love those books

So this carries on from where book one Crooked Crows left us and it is oh so good. It’s so dark and wicked and AJ is totally kick ass and such a strong character. I have loved this journey she is taking , loved the way her relationships are developing and we even get some background stories which sheds light on a few things! The twists and turns keep on coming and still had me on the edge of my seat and the steam and drama heats up even more. It’s a fantastic addition to this series and I am so ready for the next book!
