Have you ever had a position snatched from under you? Pay years of service to a company just to have the CEO position handed over to an outsider? To hate that outsider so much, you start tormenting him?
Laylee When the eerie new guy with gorgeous blue eyes stole my CEO position, I became a complete brat. Unfortunately, August had other plans. His retaliation was unorthodox, and now I'm thrust into a new world that was right under our noses this whole time. There are demons, vampires, werewolves, and who knows what other wild creatures... er, I guess not so wild since they might be our next neighbor.
August I knew taking this new position would upset a few people, but now I was a target of a corporate BRAT. Laylee, the woman who made the Devil shudder when her feet hit the floor. She rubbed enough elbows with the right people safely secure her position at Solar Security. Meaning I couldn’t fire her, so I'd given her three chances to stop the name-calling, snide remarks, and overall sneaky behavior. Did she heed his warnings? No. Now she was mine forever, but what does that entail with Laylee Joseph?
Please read the front page author's notes before reading. Genre - Paranormal Dark Romance _____________________________________________________________________________________ This is a re-release of 'Incubus Bite' Reviews from 'Incubus Bite' 5.0 out of 5 stars Underworld..... I loved this book. It has everything you could think of on every page. Can't wait to read what else comes from that creative mind of yours
Reader’s Oasis 5.0 out of 5 stars love it This book was such a great read. I mean I love the action and the suspense in all. I can’t wait to read the next installment. Plus that laylee is a boss and she met her match with August. I am wondering will Monique and Kal have something going on? I can’t wait to see what unfolds love this book.
acidfire189 5.0 out of 5 stars Intereste Verified Purchase I was really entranced in the beginning then everything changed but I continued to read it until the end and I still really enjoyed it. Can't wait for the rest of the books...
I got to page 27 and I couldn’t take it anymore. I could NOT suspend reality enough to stomach this narrative. And it’s not what you think. An incubus (I least that’s what I believe the MMC is based on the “trigger” warnings at the beginning.) No problem. An underworld that uses tech security to cover their secrets/existence. Believable.
What’s not believable? A person who is expecting to be named CEO of a company, drinking a mimosa on the WAY to work. Nope. Same said person mixing and drinking mimosas in the office. Uh, girlfriend maybe THAT’S why you didn’t get the promotion. Same character throwing office parties, in the office, with drugs and prostitutes. What in the…?! Telling your new CEO to “kiss my a$$”. Oh uh-uh.
Obviously the author has NO idea how a professional work place operates. Even the most laid-back, tech, new age, hoodie wearing, coffee-bar having, sitting on yoga balls work site would NOT have that foolishness happening unchecked. I don’t care how much money the team was bringing in. The company would be paying out lawsuits just as fast.
I tried getting into this and giving it a chance, but with each sentence, I realised I just could not. I made it to about 5 chapters in before deciding I just wouldn’t subject myself to it.
The writing was juvenile and the characters were also juvenile. Smoking, wild parties and prostitutes… in the office? What is this hot mess? I read the blurb at the beginning and triggering warning by the author. I’m not phased by most of what was there, but it was just unbearable.
How can you make me hate your MCs upon their FIRST introduction??? Howwww??? Gosh, 1 chapter of Laylee was too much and I just refuse to sit and suffer through that for 300+ pages.
First things first the author’s note explains one of my main issues with the writing but it still boils down to editors or solid editing matters because the gaps in events and plot issues kept dragging me out of the story. Second there isn’t anything as disappointing as a story about a sex demon with the most basic sex scenes I have ever read. I fought my way through the frustrations of the inconsistencies in the fmc’s personality just to have the plot fail me in the end. I’m going with 3.5 stars though because I enjoyed the fact that a demon actually falls in love with a terrible person instead of someone who wouldn’t survive the relationship or the demon would have to change for. Also because Sasha was awesome I loved him and I’m hoping things get better in the next book. By the end I sort of liked August. The world building in this was interesting and cool when the author bothered to explain things. Don’t let the cover full you this inst grumpy sunshine this is grumpy- narcissist.
My interest was piqued early in the book, but it soon turned tedious and I was forced to finish it.
The characters lacked dimension and depth, and I felt like I couldn't really get to know them. The writing style was also not very engaging, and it was difficult to follow the plot. Without the proper development of characters and writing style, the story missed an essential element that kept me from fully enjoying it.
Thus, I couldn't connect with any of the characters and, as a result, found it challenging to summarize. Consequently, I found it difficult to engage with the narrative and come away with a clear understanding of what the story was all about.
In the absence of character development or an engaging writing style, I felt disconnected from the story. As a result, I was dissatisfied with the book as a whole.
I don’t know what I was getting into, but I loved it.
I didn’t think that the plan was a little chaotic at times, but I didn’t mind it. I definitely want to read the second book if it’s falling in the same couple.
I think this is the second paranormal monster Romance that I have fell in love with!!
I enjoyed this but oh my god it was all over the place. So much was happening that it was giving me a headache 🤕
But still this was really enjoyable and funny.
I just wished instead of focusing heavily on the plot that it was also focused on Laylee & August relationship build up. We really didn’t get to see their relationship actually unfold.
This has been on my TBR for a while now and not gonna lie it was a bit of a letdown.
This book is well written for a paranormal story. But and well it is NOT a romance! It’s got heat, demons, vampires and fairies…no romance. Stop putting your fantasy stories out as romance it pisses people off. Ok I don’t know about people being passed off, but and well I’m pissed off!
Different from what I typically read when it comes to paranormal, but I definitely enjoyed it. When you read this book, you definitely have to go in with the thought process that this is a fantasy and it doesn't have to be realistic. It was light and a fun read for me, which left me wanting more.
This was a really good book to read and I loved every part of it. The mythical creatures that were in the book was explained really well, but it was also a lot of information being thrown at you in my opinion. I also liked how we got to know more about the “underworld”. My only issue with the book is in the beginning, I was confused with the fmc dreams she was having. Until later I realized it was the mmc doing that to her. The cliffhanger was like dang but I’m hoping we can get another book soon and get a book about her cousin and Kal
Okay, if you don’t make it through at least 70% of this book, you may feel like it is going to be a DNF. This book could use a good editor and a rewrite as the author develops her talent. When she let her creativity fully fly, the character development got much better and the fantasy world came more to life. So, I say 4 stars. I see the potential and I want to read book 2.
This book has everything I like! I like fantasy, I love black women white men romance novels . Fairies vampires werewolves are all things I like. I've been a submissive woman looking for my dominant counter part for most of my adult life, I totally in it. For me it's almost like fairy tale porn. The characters are so relatable human and otherwise. I love the fact that it's also made in modern day and current times. First time I've ever bothered to leave a review on anything it was just that good!!
I want to preface by saying what I always do when I don’t give a great review…I hate it. However, I want to be honest. That kind of feedback can be helpful for the next book.
That being said.
A lot of the concepts in the book were cool. I loved the underworld ID’s and the world being filled with a bunch of different beings. But that’s about where my enjoyment ends.
There were a lot of scenes with positioning that were driving me insane and I think added to my need to skim through to the end. For example; in one sentence H would be leaning against the door frame. In the next sentence, H would be on his back with his hands behind his head. With 0 expositions on how or when he got there! He just was. And that type of thing happened several times throughout the book.
Enemies to lovers is a trope that can easily get annoying for me. The constant beef gets monotonous after a while and it can be really difficult to find any chemistry between the couple in the story once the antagonizing stops. And good grief this was one of those examples of the trope being annoying. Aside from the fact that Laylee got away with the most ridiculous things in the office and then somehow expected to be made the CEO, there was no chemistry between her and August. He was super dry and boring and seemed like he only wanted her as a sex doll. It wasn’t even made very clear why out of all his years as an incubus, did he decide to finally make an underling. Like what was his driving force to make Laylee one? Because he definitely could have just fired her, she was a lawsuit waiting to happen.
And for being sex vampires, the sex was very vanilla. Maybe my mind is demented, but I think succubus and incubus equal crazy hot, borderline offensive sex scenes that make me clutch my invisible pearls. That’s not what happened here. I’d give it two 🌶️🌶️ and that’s because there was quite a bit of it.
The plot was tedious and there were waayyyyy too many characters in play. At times it felt jumbled and it took away from the main Hh. So much so that I didn’t care about any of them. So if someone was close to death, and it was supposed to be this gripping moment. I didn’t feel it. It was just something that was happening. A plot device, if you will. I take that back. The only one I sort of cared about was Sasha. He had personality and he and Laylee had way more chemistry than her and August. I almost wish the book was about them instead.
But anyway. I struggled to get through this book and skimmed at about 60% just to get to the end, curious to see if something more happened. If suddenly some chemistry cropped up, but the only thing I got was more damn characters and a strange ending.
Since this seems to be a series, I hope that the author takes some of the feedback. I think this series could be something great if tightened up a bit and more focused on developing the MCs vs adding hella characters to the storyline.
Laylee, a tall, 30 yr old corporate executive started bullying an incubus after she was passed up for the CEO position. She’s known for being a shark in the workplace. Think of her and her department as the “Wolf of Wall Street” film. They’re nuts.
She was gunning for the CEO spot but was replaced by the man that would soon change her life forever. That’s all I’ll give you guys because there’s so much more!
I enjoyed the hell out this from cover to cover. The plot was STRONG. The magic system and world building specifically with the succubi was fascinating. Even the side characters are interesting and I can’t wait to read their stories soon. The author has such hilarious, and witty writing. T St. James is a new fav author of mine. IMMEDIATE buy.
Great steamy scenes, polyamorous, why choose dynamics (my jam).
Spice meter: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.2 Sub/dom Paranormal romance Why choose formerly known as reverse harem
I'm going to start with the positives, end with positives, and hide the nasty bit in the middle... I loved the world that this author is creating. It would be really cool to see a map and/or family tree since they already have the breakdown of so many characters which they can build from. The writing style reminds me very much of a Gena Showalter and the worlds she creates. The obvious difference being the addition of diverse characters.
The reason I am giving the book 3 stars is simple. I hated the lead female character. She really almost ruined the story for me. And the male lead wasn't too far behind. Why? She was nasty, rude, and showed little to no growth throughout the book. In the first few pages, she alludes to this well-tuned intuition she has but after learning she's been turned she doesn't ever work on learning more about it even after Kal mentions what she may be/powers she may have. And even after weeks on the family compound she's still unbelievably rude and pig headed.
Some of the scenes were inconsistent. Like how she takes down a whole team of vampires but is struck down by a rock while in the most powerful height of her power being unleashed... -_- And the drugs/drinking in the office was just a lot. Other than that, I only dis-liked the fact that the author really didn't focus on the physical attributes of the MFC.. like I only really have an image of her in my head based on the cover of the book.
But listen... I've written stories that get away from me. I've read more romance books than is probably healthy. Any romance SciFi/Fantasy or Historical goes to the top of my tbr and diversity books are first (let's be honest.. ONLY) picks. I say this to say: There is a full world of potential in this book. I'm inspired by this book. This could be the next True Blood or GoT with how fully they have thought out all the details of their creation. I didn't love these characters however, I am anxiously awaiting the next installment which, if the author reads even 5 of their poor reviews, is going to be so much better.
Laylee is a sales wiz who's certain she'll be the next CEO of Solar Security with the current one stepping down. Unfortunately for her plans, her friend and CEO Taylor has a different plan and gives the role to an outsider, August. Laylee is shocked and doesn't like August, the least of which is because she was less than nice to him in traffic before she knew he was the new CEO. Her animosity towards August is great in the beginning and I was very interested to see just how much Laylee could irritate August before the tension snapped. Unfortunately for my anticipated blow up, August bites Laylee in a dream. The result of the bite turns Laylee into his demon underling and she's no longer able to defy or challenge him because August has control over her. I liked the different spin on the supernatural in the book and thought Monique and Selena were interesting and entertaining characters.
The rest of the book is a lot of supernatural, unbelievable battles, puzzling decisions, unlikely and likely villains, and family interactions. I'd classify the other demons who share Arabella as a sire as family for August. It's just not the book for me. It didn't engage me at all and the sexy bits weren't even that for me. There are a lot of typos and punctuation errors and weird word choice that distract. I didn't really like August much, wasn't sure what a lot of the relationships meant, or where they were going or could be in the future, and was especially skeptical at how Laylee came out of most of the physical confrontations on top without skills. Let alone that she was battling beings that had seen war between one another for many years and were centuries old warriors.
Kal and Monique's story seems like it could be interesting if that book is written. Overall, this one just wasn't for me.
I’m really rating this book a 3.9 because i felt like something was missing and it fell a little flat in the middle.
Laylee has been working towards the CEO position of her company and just when she thinks she’s about to get it, Here comes August out of nowhere getting her spot. They don’t like each other and try to make each others lives at work hell. Laylee starts having Sex dreams about August and suddenly she realizes there’s something about August…..he’s not at all what he seems
I absolutely loved August and I wish Laylee was a little less childish. I thought the supernatural world in this book was so interesting and how They live around the humans. I wish the author expanded more on that aspect. Overall it was an enjoyable book the smut scenes were sizzling hot and I don’t know if there’s a book 2 but I need a Monique and Kal book. I feel like their story would Be soooo good.
If you're looking for a fun, action packed fantasy that delivers the spice, then Bite of Hate just might be up your alley.
Heed the trigger warnings listed before you start reading so you aren’t surprised. This story is a fun read meant for those with a sense of humor and wanting to take a dive into another reality.
There are surprises around every corner, and just when you think you've got it all figured out, St. James throws a curveball that'll knock your socks off.
Bottom line: Bite of Hate is a must-read for anyone who loves badass characters, has an open mind, and ready to get lost in the sauce. If you're not afraid of a little edge and spice in your reading, then trust me, you'll devour this book like a hot fudge sundae on a summer day.
First wow that was a thrill ride! From office enemies to lovers to a full blown paranormal battle! I love it !!
Y’all know I love a kick ass strong fmc and that is exactly what Laylee is! I love a boss in a Chanel suit who can shoot a gun and be an even better psychic succubus!
And then there is August my beautiful incubus Viking king!! Lord the things I would let that mad do to me! Me oh my!
I’m not gonna spoil it but y’all this was a 5/5 ⭐️ read for me !! Took me right out of my reading slump!
And the spice !! Oh god
Stop reading my review and just go read the book !
2.5 stars. An editor would have really helped this book. This is a great rough draft, but not final copy.
Simple spelling errors (incorrect use or your & you’re, warriors spelled worriers, innocence spelled innocents) just for example. Misuse of punctuation (incorrect use of a semi colon) and random uppercased letters that should not have been capitalized.
I think the idea of the book was stellar but the execution fell a bit flat. The smut was pretty good but their “love” story was not believable in my opinion.
I LOVED IT OMG!!! Since the writing perspective was changed last minute before the book was published some of the pov’s were kind of difficult to trace back but the writing was still outstanding. I loved the female lead bc I love a string badass bitch and the ML was definitely a panty snatcher. The elements of the underworld were kinda of hard to understand and FL ability was never really given real focus. Overall the writing was amazing the SPICE WAS GOD TIER! And I felt sucked into the novel. 8/10
Meh....DNF 34% . I really couldn't stomach the MFC. She was so snobby but yet not.....I couldn't understand why she held on to her hate after finding out that her Boss was a Demon. To me, loosing out on a CEO position is small in comparison to finding out there is an underworld and the people you hang around are totally different species.!!
I also did not connect with the main MC. I felt like the book was finished when MFC found out MMC was a demon and she was not going to get her job. Also no one does that many sideways things to a new boss and keeps their job.....
A Bite of Hate is an exciting, fantastic , paranormal , action packed thrillride👐 The ✍’s world building was captivating , filled to the brim with demons, succubus, vampires, werewolves, fairies & hunters😘 Heed the trigger warnings , as the author vividly describes the action fighting scenes, in which the monsters are vicious & don't play nice😅The romance is a combination of 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶& sweetness that makes you root hard for August & his bratty lady love! I can't wait for the next set of 📚💃
Book had tons of potential, but it fell flat in a lot of ways, in my opinion. Basically, all the low reviews said exactly what I was thinking, so I won't restate them all, but it lacked direction, had way too many characters, barely any romance, weird tropes that just didn't fit with the storyline, and the two MC lacked chemistry and were frankly annoying. I can tell the author can write well, but this book did nothing for me. Two stars for creativity in the plot and background building. Will not read book two.
This was just ok for me. I felt like the story jumped very quickly into the supernatural world before fleshing out the world itself and the main leads. I honestly was more invested in some of the side characters than the leads. I think there was also a lot if things thrown in at once which made the story fast pace but also very chaotic. Especially with so many characters. Many that showed up in the 3rd half.
This was a great story, with lots of spicy scenes throughout. I finished this book in its entirety today and I'm going to look for book 2 after this review. The one thing that this story needed was better proof reading. In some places sentences weren't fully written, which made them sound weird, and it kept throwing me off. Other than that, it was a great read!
