Growing up is never easy, but for Jahrra, seventeen years has brought its own unique share of hardships. She’s made both friends and enemies; has felt both joy and sorrow. Yet she has persevered through it all and has finally learned to know and accept who she is. Unfortunately, her trials and tribulations are only just beginning . . .
An inconceivable tragedy and the revelation of a secret kept from her since birth has turned her perfect world on its end. Jahrra isn’t the poor Nesnan she thought she was, but human, one promised by Ethöes in a prophecy from long ago. Now, without her guardian, she must accept the help of the one she mistrusts the most as they flee Oescienne before the Tyrant’s minions have a chance to close in.
With her enemies at her heels and the terrifying truth looming before her, Jahrra will seek shelter with the dragon Raejaaxorix in the faraway city of Lidien, a place of hope and enlightenment. But when the City of Light proves to entertain its own dangers, Jahrra and Jaax find their safety threatened once again. But this time the threat may be coming from those they trust the most . . .
Fantasy Author. Swordswoman. Chicken Mama. These are just a few of the titles Jenna Elizabeth Johnson proudly goes by. She is the author of over a dozen novels, novellas, and short stories, including the award-winning Legend of Oescienne series, the Otherworld series, and the Draghans of Firiehn novella series.
Besides writing fantasy adventures featuring domineering dragons, headstrong heroines, brooding Celtic warriors, and all the magical creatures in between, she is a competitive HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) practitioner, participating in longsword tournaments whenever she gets the chance.
During her down time, Jenna can be found exploring the open spaces of California’s Central Coast, camping in Yosemite National Park, reading books and webcomics, or hanging out with her flock of overly-affectionate lap chickens.
I absolutely love this book and series. Jenna Elizabeth Johnson is such a talented author. (I have every book she has published on my kindle, and with the exception of the anthologies, I have a paperback of each book as well).
Jahrra has grown up so much since she was first introduced. We have met so many new characters along the way, some good and some bad (I always despised the twins). I don't want to post any spoilers, so I will just say that a lot changes for Jahrra in this book. Be ready to meet lots of new people, changes in scenery and learning more about what is going on in the world of Ethoes.
I can't wait to read book 4 and see what happens next. <3 <3 <3
At 17-years old Jahrra has known more loss than most kids. She lost her adoptive parents at the age of 8 and has recently lost her dragon guardian. Now under the responsibility of Jaax they are forced to make their way to Lidien to be protected from the Tyrant's men that are determined to find the human that is prophesied to bring his demise. The Awakening revolves around Jahrra's life now in Lidien and her journey through University. She's now having to meet people who know about her and what she is as well as a group called the Coalition, who are determined to see the end of the Tyrant. But even in a peaceful place like Lidien there are still spies and people who have their own agendas. Follow along with Jahrra annd her attempts to live as normal of a life as she can, even with the weight of the world on her shoulders.
While there wasn't much "action" per say in this book, this one kept my interest more because we get to see more of the people who are backing Jahrra and her destiny as well as how far the Crimson King's reach is and the greed that has overcome some.
I've gotten more involved with this story with each successive book. Jharra has grown into her own and has become a young woman. She's not so impulsive now and tries her best to handle situations maturely. She and Jaxx have had to flee the city as the Crimson Kings men close in. What does life hold next for our duo ????
New characters are introduced as friends and enemies, which gave the story a bit more meat. I will complete the series as I'm intrigued to see how their journey progresses
Jahrra is growing up, and learning to control herself, which will help immensely once she has to become more involved with the business of defeating the Crimson King. Good character development and plot twists.
J E Johnson is a talented author and her stories are entertaining and well written. However, my sense with the Oescienne saga is that there's something lacking, a goal unattained at the end of the books. Especially the 2nd and third novel. I may read the future books or I may not.
Yet, another fun, adventure filled Legend of Oescienne!
The tension is rising in Jahrra's world. It was quite interesting getting to know more of Jaax's story, even though there is still SO much more I want to learn about him.
The life of our heroine continues. Will she ever find peace, will it be lasting? The Arthur continues to grow our heroine as well as her story. Adding new characters, new mysteries, and growth of friendships and character. Good to see more development of of the characters personalities as well is a the storyline.
It's been a year since Jaax and Jahrra moved to Lidien. Unfortunately, their enemies still seek them and destinies can't be stopped. Leaving her new friends, she must travel with Jaax to Nimbronia, a city in the clouds, to try and forge an alliance that will help them succeed.
Love the series cant wait to read the next book. The characters are so real and I feel the emotions from them. Jaharrah is so real and her guardian Jaxx is great. Can't wait to read the whole series.
I have loved every word of this series. I have ordered Book 4. Anyone who loves elves, dwarves, dragons & high adventure. Will love this well written, tightly plotted story. If you love strong females you will love this series.
Jenna Elizabeth Johnson continues to develops the story of Jahrra who is now a young woman. Forced to flee from the home she has known and leave all those she loves behind she journeys to two places of importance in her life and continues to learn more about who she truly is, the human child Ethoes promised to save the world. New friends and an old enemy are discovered as the bond with her guardian dragon, Jaax, is strengthened.
While at times the story takes a long path to reach the next point there are many emotional moments that pull you in. I found myself cheering Jahrra on as she stands up for what she believes in as well as feeling the depth of sadness she has as her journey continues.
I struggled to stay with the story at times when it took the long path to get to where it was headed but it does give you a feeling of exactly how long the journey was for Jahrra.
Enjoyable reading , the story continues as Jahrra grows older and wiser. The conflict in her life expands with time , she becomes more cautious and less trusting of those around her.
I highly recommend this to those of you who like this genre. To be honest it is not my favorite genre...however this book has it all. Exciting plot and excellently executed characters!
