In my world, secrecy is a way of life. My coworkers at the CIA think my name is Alexis, my best friend thinks I work for a hotel, and my neighbors know nothing because I'm barely around enough to say hello.
Only three people in the world know who I really am. And it needs to stay that way.
I thought I’d been doing a good job of keeping my lives separate, making sure no one could connect the dots between who I am now and what I did five years ago. But when my team is tasked with tracking down a deadly neurotoxin, our new analyst Scott could blow my entire secret identity out of the water.
He's smart, talented, ridiculously handsome, and… my best friend's brother.
It shouldn’t be too hard to convince him to stay quiet. If the wrong people figure out who I am, his sister could be right in the line of fire.
I can’t blame him for being angry that I’ve lied to them for so long. But with millions of lives on the line… couldn't he hate me later?
This was a such a fun read. Kept it light with the history and the romance. But I really appreciate a focus on the actual op and functioning partnership, supportive team, understanding MMC, and no special treatment just because they fell into a grey area. Stuck with the rules and kept things from getting too complicated.
There’s this line in New Girl “I know this isn’t going to end well but the middle part is gonna be awesome.” And I am so glad the main couple went in that direction, because why deny ourselves the best part just because we can’t guarantee the whole meal will be just as good?
I love the platonic relationship, I was hoping or at least wouldn’t be mad if it turned into something if not a serious thing. But I have this weird feeling that the writer is gonna flip it to the other end of the spectrum and make him a double agent. Can’t trust someone that charming and that supportive that early in the game.
The formula just simply will not allow a single person both traits. To hold such and important role in her life without becoming the source of her next conflict.
I mean, they did it with the MMC for the start of this book. I can imagine them doing it again with this guy in the next one .
Update: …. Now I’ve bought the second book 😅😭

I liked the characters and how it was a quick read. I listened to the audio book and the majority of things that bugged me went back to the A.I. narration. I could tell that Tay had set up sentences to be delivered one way but the A.I. narration forced the whole tone to be chipper. Sometimes it would be several paragraphs later before I realized the character was sarcastic or angsty.
As far as the story itself, it is written for the quick read "Kindle" audience. The book read like an episode from our childhood superhero show (just needed the narrator ending with "will our hero make it out in time? Will Alexis ever get to tell her childhood crush her true feelings? Will Jake ever realize the chemistry between his partner and the new analyst? Tune in next week for the next episode of Agent Alexis here on Cartoon Network"). Not my typical choice in reads but I liked it enough to download the next book.

This is a fun, quick read. It is well written and I really liked the action and 'spy mission' scenes in this book.
I also liked the way that the main character Alexis/Lily is torn about lying to everyone in her life but wasn't really into her romance with Scott. That might change as there are two more books in this series (which I will probably read) but as of this book I was much more interested in everything other than the romance, which is a shame.
It went by a lil too quick, but i loved the plot. No smutty love scenes, which is my preference, hence why i usually stick with YA books. This book kept my interest and I'm intrigued to read more to get the full story...maybe a lil more background. Off to next book....happy reading.
I love this book! The inner conflict of Alexis/Lily is perfectly written. The tension between her and Scott is beautiful. This book is a page turner and sucks you in real quick leaving you wanting more. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
This book has a little different twist than most special ops books. The characters' relationship with each other is interesting and complicated. The code names get confusing with regular names but a great book.
