After leaving the medical chamber, Keith thought the long war was over. He had united two warring factions and identified the culprit behind the earlier devastating war. A xenophobic race that was out to destroy all the other races.
The problem was that they didn't like that he had uncovered their deception, and they were out for revenge.
Then the Earth sent their “secret weapon” out to him. Something that could possibly beat the Meduala at their own game. Unfortunately, her daughter insisted on coming out too.
Much of his earlier success was based on help from the AI on his patched-up former delict spacecraft. Getting it updated seemed like a good idea. Adding more processing power to an unlocked AI should make it even better. That was the idea. What could go wrong? (he soon finds out)
Then they went out exploring the area in the new and improved ship. They found some unexpected aliens. And then some different aliens found them. They discovered that the Meduala were terrified of the new aliens.… It turns out that they had a reason to be…

I came close to not finishing this book (which would have been 1 star). The sex from the first book is now a significant part of the plot, and although still not explicit, it's quite creepy and feels out of place. The story goes off in a different direction with convenient super aliens providing super technology. I really struggled to finish the last 30% with the ridiculous overpowering sex lust, leering characters, and lack of actual story. Just more convenient discoveries/technologies to drive forward the dull plot. Somehow this felt creepier than harem fiction. The female characters often have little personality except their lust.
This book series started out great, interesting premise, well developed characters, well written, but devolved somewhat in the first book, and fell off a cliff in the second and third books, filled with juvenile sexual innuendo and situations, it is becoming unreadable by midway through the third book. The author is talented, just needs to decide what he wants to write, light porn or good literature.
Well at least the pop culture references are very current and the mind-boggling array of different aliens certainly feed the idea that the universe is full. We aren't the only ones, we aren't the most intelligent ones, where are the most powerful ones, where are the most warliked ones, and we sure as heck are the ones most likely to survive.
I read the first one and it was ok. But the huge multitude of characters is so confusing, I couldn't figure out what was going on. I've read books with big casts before (Tom Clancy, anyone?), so I know it can be managed. There's a lot of books to be read, no need to put up with this confusing mess.
After finding out the Menduza type Aliens have been keeping the Thousand Years War going by brain washing key people in the war so they didn't know they were doing their bidding. Now everyone is fighting the same group and finding traps in most of everyone's ships. Good Read.
The worldbuilding is good with fascinating non-humans, graphic violence, and a body count. Keith is still a good guy and enjoyable narrator. Pattie is growing up.
Collins is a very unconventional writer. And thank God he is most of the plots and character development are dedicated to positive relations with aliens and other humans. This is not the norm for current Science Fiction, but it is welcomed.
My two cons were addressed in this second book of the series; 1. There weren’t as many grammatical and sentence errors. 2. The biological hazard between humans and other species was thoroughly addressed. I like the humor in the stories, and the emerging relationships are interesting so far. I’m looking forward to seeing where the author takes us next!
The writing kept me interested and I really enjoyed the comical quips. However, I was constantly finding typos and misused words. But as I stated before, it was still a "Good Read".
Character development is astounding! Story line was unexpected at several turns. Kept me gussing.,couldn't put it down. It would make a great movie series. It's a must rread!!!!
But I can't take any more of the silliness. A good read for anyone not expecting sofisticated sci fi. I gave it 5 stars to honor the work the author put in writing it.🙂
