I met him on a beach, and he stole my heart. Then it turns out he's my professor. Will he choose his new career, or us?
Caleb Allen I play bass guitar in an ever-popular pop-punk band. I wasn't looking for love, but it found me anyways. Eric Moore After years of hard work, I've finally become a professor. To celebrate my success and reset my life, I'm spending a month with the calming surf. Then he shows up in the house next door and burrows into my heart. Can I really let him go at the end of his vacation?

Christie Gordon is the author of steamy, heartfelt gay romance novels that explore the emotional journey of men discovering themselves and finding love. It all started when she stumbled upon MM fanfiction by accident—and let's just say, it was love at first read. Inspired by the genre's mix of passion and complexity, Christie transitioned from reading about men in love to writing her own stories. After taking fiction writing classes at a local community college, she published her first MM romance novel in 2009 with a small press, and she’s never looked back. When she’s not writing, Christie watches boys-love dramas, creates digital art, or is serenaded by her snoring one-eyed rescue pug. A graduate of both Electrical Engineering (BS) and Business Administration (MBA), she spends her "day job" navigating the high-tech world, but her heart belongs to the characters who live in her books. Christie currently resides in the Phoenix metro area, though she’s also lived in California’s Bay Area and Minnesota (which probably explains her deep love of pumpkin spiced latte coffees and hockey). She’s also the proud mother of two young-adult sons who provide plenty of material for stories—usually in the form of chaotic shenanigans. But no matter what, Christie’s always up for a new adventure, whether it's on the page or in the real world.
This is the third book in the Rock U series and it was great to catch up with the guys from Knot Me and their partners as several of them take time out in Mexico at Gabe's parents' holiday house after the shooting which happened in the previous book. Caleb in particular is really struggling with PTSD and nightmares and guilt about the shooting.
On their arrival Caleb spots their neighbour Eric and is instantly attracted to the older man, after they meet, the attraction goes both ways, their chemistry is hot and they fall into a holiday romance for the 5 days Caleb and his friends are there. Feelings happen very quickly between the two, but because of Eric's new job at Caleb's college, they both reluctantly end things.
Suffice it to say as soon as they see each other again in the real world neither wants to let the other go and despite the risks, they agree to keep seeing each other in secret. The college has a strict policy against professors being involved with students and Eric is worried about his new job and isn't keen to disclose to them his new relationship.
Eric has a particularly nasty ex who he was having an affair with before he left his previous job and that ex is determined to cause trouble for Eric and Caleb if her doesn't get his way. A lot of the problems would never have arisen if Eric and Caleb had disclosed their relationship as there would have been nothing to hang over their heads. While I could see Eric's position, I also thought the fact they had met before he started there would have made a difference and Caleb could have been changed from his class and then there wouldn't have been a problem. But then of course we wouldn't have had this story and the drama that went with it.
Eric and Caleb made a good couple and I'm glad they managed to eventually sort everything out with the college and get the ex off their backs, I wish the ex hadn't gotten off so lightly though.
I'm looking forward to Sila's story next in Light Me Up which will hopefully be coming soon.
Nᴇᴠᴇʀ Lᴇᴛ Iᴛ Eɴᴅ is the third book in the Rock U series by Christie Gordon which is Caleb and Eric's journey.
Caleb and Eric indulge in a whirlwind fling together while in Mexico and agree to part on good terms at the end of the vacation because they are going to both be at the university and it would not look good for a professor and student to be together but when they are both back home it proves to be harder to stay apart than they thought.
Caleb and Eric are good together and help each other with the baggage they both carry but there were times that I felt their relationship was a little robotic. I loved the banter between the bandmates and their partners and how quickly they welcomed Eric into their little found family.
The whole storyline with Eric's ex-boss/lover really rubbed me the wrong way and I could have done with it being less than what it ended up being.
I am looking forward to continuing the Rock U series.
Finnley Cole did another amazing job with this group and am glad that he is the one continuing the series.
Get ready for ... age gap, fling, musician • rockstar, college, hurt • comfort, professor • student, forbidden vibes, and be mindful that there is content that may be uncomfortable for some readers, and check the trigger warnings before enjoying it.
An instalove, May/December story, between a student and his professor. I've read all of the previous books in this series and enjoyed them. I really enjoyed Caleb's character, he's young, but knows what he wants from life, and is willing to work hard to reach his goals. In this story he's recovering from a trauma and suffering from PTSD, his friends try hard to help him, but he's still suffering. It's not until he meets Eric, that his trauma begins to heal. So far, so good. However, I really had a problem with Eric (Caleb's prof), for professional reasons (and this is a me thing), he wishes to keep his relationship with Caleb a secret. There wasn't really any need, Caleb (the student) comes up with a solution ('let's go be honest, Eric!'), but Eric is too afraid to to so. Also, previous to meeting Caleb, Eric had an affair with a married guy, yeah, he was sorry etc. However, it didn't sit well with me. I couldn't warm to Eric at all. Having read the audible version of the story, I thought Finley Cole did a really good job bringing the story to life. I loved his representation of Caleb, I enjoyed his enthusiasm and how he was determined to reach his goals. I thought that the narrator dealt with Eric's character too, however, I still struggled to warm up to him
Oh I have been waiting for Caleb’s story and it did not disappoint as it is one of my favourite tropes!
These two characters were made for each other they just clicked like a missing puzzle piece!
Two lonely souls find each other and so much more on a beach in Mexico… and realised it can only be a holiday fling as Caleb is a student at the University that Eric will be attending as a professor…
“It was a little weird how natural it felt to have him here” “We just fitted.”
“It was like I’d met him in a past life and my soul already knew his.”
They had an uphill battle with the ethics of the University and a stalker, blackmailing ex… but they prevailed…
I loved their dynamic and character build that showcased how Eric helped Caleb overcome his fear of being a helpless coward and how Caleb showed Eric there is more to life by having friends and found family along with a deep, soulful connection to your other person!
I loved it!
I look forward to Silas’s story next!
I voluntarily received an ARC for an honest non biased review.
Perfect timing is what it was! Caleb was healing from a major trauma and who better to help heal him than hot, hot , hot professor Eric. Both men were adorable in their approach to this vacation fling. But like most well planned things, something always changes the path you thought you were on. I love these two characters not to mention Caleb's friends. I adored Caleb's parents too. This was such a great story! As usual there was someone that needed to be taught some manners. I know of a cast iron skillet that would do the trick. So much love in this book. Great story!
I received an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review.
This is a very spicy, professor/student, forbidden romance that is a must read!! Christie pulled out all the stops with this book!! I was either gasping, teary eyed needing tissues, getting mad, or needing a fan due to spicy heat level of scenes!! I recommend tissues, tequilla/bourbon shots, fire extinguisher/ fan to survive this book!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥😂😲 😜Caleb and Eric's journey did not disappoint..
I received this as an ARC and leaving my review voluntarily.
This is a well written MM age gap romance with strong characters in Caleb and Eric. The author does a great job building their relationship and bringing out all the emotions. She pulled me in and kept me reading with all the twists and turns along with the smokin hot chemistry. She moves the story fluidly with descriptive scenes and delivers an emotional romance.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
MM, Age Gap, Hurt/Comfort, Rocker, Contemporary, Romance. Easy to read page-turner that is the third book in the series, can be read as a stand-alone or read in series order. Great characters, twists and turns, angst, and lots of steam are just some of the things you can look forward to in this binge read with a guaranteed HEA.
This author just keeps getting better! One of my favorite tropes, professor/student(age-gap), this book was HOT! Loved that there were a few different mini-stories winding together to make the HEA, and enjoyed having a new character to hate... definitely a reread!
Audiobook (10h7m), Narrated by Finnley Cole: 4.25 stars I've been enjoying Finnley Cole's story-telling but found his Caleb/Eric to be quite similar to his Axel/Remy when listening to them back-to-back. This had a lot more passages that were more softly spoken, which I struggle with as the volume differences makes listening in the car a chore. Still I found his narration compelling and entertaining - very easy to enjoy during my commute to work.
I listened at 1.15x speed as I knew this wasn't my favourite story in the series and I'm eager to listen to Silas and Cash's story, Light Me Up.
I was given an Audible code and voluntarily wrote an honest review.
Story: 2.5 stars 1st person, past tense, dual POV Caleb Allen (22), computer sciences student at ASU Eric Moore (33), network security professor in the computer sciences department at ASU
This is the third book in the Rock U series and while it could be read as a standalone, events that occur near the end of the previous book Come Closer to Me play a significant role in this story. While they are explained, the emotional impact isn't felt nearly as much and I feel would read better with that context. There are also some cameo appearances by characters from the author's Mesa Boys series and as I have not yet read them it felt gratuitous and distracting though I'm sure fans of those books were thrilled to see them appear.
I went into this book with a great deal of anticipation, but unfortunately I was disappointed. Very little of the story worked for me. Just about the only thing this story had going for it was the hot sex, especially Caleb's... oral fixation ;) which isn't enough to carry the book, especially with its length.
As with the first two books of the series the relationship is established rather quickly, too quickly for my enjoyment, I like the anticipation, especially when there are impediments such as an age gap, meddlesome ex-, taboo relationship and actual trauma to work though for storylines. All these issues are basically swept aside for sex and an endless loop of 'we should disclose our relationship', but Eric refusing to do so for... reasons... This had the consequence of a long, drawn-out, monotonous middle that just wasn't engaging.
I really hate when characters act against their own best interests and the whole secrecy about their relationship was dragged out waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. Literally every character stated that they needed to disclose their relationship to the university to avoid problems and Eric received that information and then promptly decided against it, for no discernable reason. He was already a bit of a red flag for the secret affair he had with his married boss, Rajesh, at Desert Solar so this didn't endear him to me at all. When it finally came out the resolution was not at all satisfying; Caleb basically lied to saved Eric's ass and the bad guy faced zero consequence.
While I love the band and the found family vibe they have going on, by and large their treatment of Caleb's trauma was ham-handed and insensitive. More than once I recoiled at the guys' attitude towards him, pressuring him to talk about the events early on in the book and his relationship with Eric - yuck! I did enjoy Caleb's journey in dealing with the guilt of not having done more and was thrilled with every bit of progress that he made.
I actually thought the Rajesh storyline could have been a compelling one as he started stalking Caleb and trying to entice Eric back into his bed, it sadly fizzled and didn't play out with any elegance.
While this one was a miss for me, others have enjoyed it very much and I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the bandmates get their HEAs.
I was given an ARC and voluntarily wrote an honest review.
I want to start by saying that although this book can be read as standalone, it's much better if you read the previous ones, you will enjoy it more.
Another thing that I want to point out is that I have noticed, in the last few books (including this one) that the author has a more fluid writing style, something that I had been saying that she needed in my first book reviews in her other series. So thank you Christie cause it really shows, making it much more pleasant to read them.
Now, as for Caleb and Eric. We met Caleb in the previous books of this series, and from the beginning, I found him very endearing. In Come Closer To Me (book 2) he finds himself involved in a traumatic event, something he is still struggling with in his story. To help him get over it, his friends and bandmates take him on a mini vacation to a Mexican beach. There he meets Eric, who is also on vacation before starting on a new job, someone a little older to whom he immediately feels attracted and who gradually eases the guilt and trauma he feels after the events at the mall where Axel was injured. The attraction is mutual and deep, but they soon realize that Eric is going to be a professor at the same university Caleb attends, and that puts a deadline on their relationship.
Eric... I'm not too sure I like him very much. Despite being the older of the two, and the fact that he has worked hard to achieve his goals in his career, the one who seems more mature to me, more confident of what he wants, is Caleb. He is the one more willing to fight for the two of them, to find solutions, etc., while Eric is the one who is scared and constantly worried about losing everything, mostly due to the actions of his ex-lover, who is an older married man with children, with whom he had an affair while he was his boss at Eric's previous job. Yes, we all make mistakes, but cheating is a big NO, especially when Eric knew he was cheating on someone and he didn't even love the man so... Yes, definitely, Caleb is my favorite in this story.
However, after parting ways on the beach, Eric realizes that he somehow needs to have Caleb in his life, and he seeks him out. And after overcoming several obstacles (like I said: the vindictive ex who won't take no for an answer) and the fears that Eric felt, they finally get to enjoy their HEA.
I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
Contains: Fling, student/teacher, 10-year age gap, stalking/treating dilemma, scorching hot scene, ptsd.
TW: public mass shøøting described, plus ptsd nightmares, past death of a sister by cancer and mention of a brother's friend drowning .
Can be read as a standalone, but strongly suggests at least the previous book to know the seriousness of the repercussions of the drama.
Dive into this book and discover an adult who has just achieved his dreams goal but finds himself intertwined in a bigger problem.
Then, a young adult trying to find himself in his own body, a body that's missing a piece the gunman took from him. He's searching for himself, in the turmoil of post-traumatic shock. He finds refuge... in the arms of his vacation fling.
Let me tell you: the chemistry between the characters is scorching hot! Some scenes are on fire. They know what they want, and in most cases, it's a bed or a shower.
This author never ceases to surprise me. I always dread her books. There's always a little something I wouldn't normally like. For example, student/teacher plus age gap, I would certainly have moved on to another book without clicking on it, and I would have regretted it so much. Do NOT make that mistake!!
In my review of the previous book, I mentioned that there hadn't been a long enough chapter for all that drama. And this book gave me everything I'd missed in the previous book, even though he's just one character, a character whose impact I'd downplayed, and the author gave him a voice, he was able to shout out his distress and make me feel it deep down.
I gave it 4 stars for the simple reason that Gabe has said it over and over again: a problem that seemed simple to solve, but which drags on for almost half the book, was far too much time given over to this unpleasant problem.
What's more, I don't feel that the previous characters are as involved as those to come. Axel is more involved (despite Silas and Milo taking up more space), but it's as if Devin is too busy for his friends anymore.
In over all, you want a book that will make you feel a full turmoil of emotion this book has. From love to anger to helpless. Grab it, devore it, and enjoy the ride.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
We meet the main characters Caleb and Eric on a very romantic Mexican beach. Actually, we meet them in some really high-end vacation homes on a very romantic Mexican beach. Beamed ceilings and the whole nine yards. Really really nice vacation homes, but that’s beside the point. I was not promised a week’s stay for a good review, darn it.
Caleb is a senior at Arizona State University in IT. Caleb and his friends are in Mexico for a week after he and two of his roommates, Axel and Silas, were involved in a shooting. They’re in a band and they were in a guitar store. The store was being robbed and Axel was shot during the robbery. Caleb helped Axel with a tourniquet on his leg and sat with him until the ambulance arrived. Axel sees him as a hero, but Caleb doesn’t see it that way and feels like a fraud. Caleb has recurring nightmares and is seeing a therapist for the trauma.
Eric is visiting and staying at one of his former co-worker’s vacation’s homes for a month before he starts teaching in the IT department at Arizona State. He and his co-worker, who’s married with kids, used to have an affair. He and Caleb meet, and we go from there. They only plan on having their vacation fling because Eric is new to the IT department and certainly doesn’t want to jeopardize his new career. Caleb tells him that he’ll wait and not date anyone until he graduates. Eric says maybe he’ll meet someone and that this will just be something that they can be both look back on with fondness. Yeah right.
Caleb and his friend leave and go home. Eric leaves soon afterwards because he misses Caleb. There is where Eric’s ex enters the picture. Rajesh, the owner of the beach house and his former co-worker, ends up at the Best Buy where Caleb works looking for a present for Eric. I don’t think it’s ever said how he ends up there, but in one scene, they do see his car outside Eric’s house. It’s very probable that he followed Caleb to the store.
I’m stopping here because I’m getting ready to enter spoiler territory. The story of a professor and his student with a jealous ex in the picture is fairly predictable, but that’s not a bad thing. There are only so many plots in the romance genre, and the sign of a good writer is what they do to the plot to make it theirs. The author does a great job of taking this and running with it.
Eric and Caleb’s relationship really stood out for me. First, there’s an eleven-year difference. Eric is portrayed as an authority figure due to his being Caleb’s professor. The author makes a point to distinguish how mature Eric is as compared to Caleb and his friends, which isn’t a bad thing. Caleb is still in college but is getting ready to graduate. Eric is entering his second career. Caleb is impressed by Eric because he knows about adult stuff like wine and decorating.
It's not necessarily the same for Eric. Caleb is only 22, so he doesn’t have the same depth. He works at Best Buy, so he knows his electronics. He’s a musician and when Eric shows up at one of his concerts, he impresses the hell out of Eric. While watching him at the concert, Eric reaches an epiphany:
“How could I have ever let him go? There was so much more to him to discover, and I wanted all of it. All of him.”
The story could have been shorter. A few edits here and there would have made it a bit better. Bravo! This is a solid four star. The secondary characters were fantastic. Silas and Axel have their own books. I’m going to check those out later. I highly recommend this. Loved Caleb and Eric. I want to see more of them.
After surviving a traumatic shooting event, Caleb and his friends plan to spend 5 days in Mexico before the fall semester begins at their Arizona college. On the first day, Caleb is intrigued by the hot older guy next door. While taking an “ impromptu” walk on the beach, he just happens to run into said hot neighbor, and they plan to meet on the beach the next morning. Once they meet up in the morning, Caleb and Eric are hardly apart the rest of the time Caleb is there. The intent is to just have a vacation romance and move on at the end, but feelings develop very quickly, and neither wants to say goodbye. Once school starts, both will be at the same college, but Eric will be a professor in Caleb’s major, and school policy discourages professor/student relationships. When it turns out Caleb will be a student in Eric’s class due to a schedule change just before the first day of classes, Eric meets with Caleb to warn him. Even though they stayed apart once the vacation was over, the feelings are even stronger, and they are desperate to find a way to be together. Trying to find a solution that won’t cost Eric his new job, or get Caleb kicked out, is not easy, further complicated by an appearance by someone from the past, and a resurgence of Caleb’s nightmares about the shooting.
I really got invested in Caleb and Eric’s story, and even found myself calling out one or the other about what I felt were stupid decisions, and also predicting what some of the specific problems and possible solutions could be. Eric was so good with Caleb when nightmares about the shooting recurred, making him feel so safe, and sometimes I thought Caleb’s head was clearer than Eric’s when looking at one of the main blocks to their relationship. Some pretty steamy scenes between them, too. The supporting characters added a lot, also, and reading the two previous books first would help clarify some of the dynamics between the friends.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, I will go back and read the two previous ones, and will watch for the next one to come out.
I received an ARC of this book and am leaving an honest review.
I have loved every story that comes out of the Rock U crew! Caleb & Eric's story in Never Let It End is incredibly sweet and inspiring. It covers a wonderful representation of a mental block and PTSD for Caleb from the previous book. How Eric works with Caleb and never judges him for the issues he has is beautiful. Right from the beginning, their mutual attraction pushed them together, and they almost instantaneously entered "soul mate" territory. I was drawn into the story with Caleb's first look at Eric and the way he described his immediate feelings. Their relationship was a lot of fun to follow, although I had a rather large dislike (read: hate) for the main antagonist in this story, and I don't mean the PTSD. I hate manipulative people, and those that deny any wrongdoings on their end. While I knew, of course, that this story had a wonderful HEA (as they all have), I wasn't quite sure how they'd get there, and I was pleasantly surprised at the resolution for these characters.
With each Rock U book that comes through, I fall even more in love with the band/friend group. They are all so incredibly supportive and full of love for one another. They tease each other mercilessly, but the would all be there for one another in an instant. I'm looking forward to how the stories continue for Silas, Milo & Gabe.
Audiobook: Finnley Cole does a fantastic job separating the character voices in this series. I had no trouble distinguishing each of the MCs, as well as the rest of the crew. The voices he provided for the two main Indian characters were understandably subtle but didn't sound offensive to me. Hopefully that is the case for others as well. The story didn't imitate any Indian culture, so it would really have only been the audio that could have caused issues, and I didn't think that was a problem.
I received an authorized copy of this story/audiobook and am volunteering my honest review.
Never Let It End is book 3 in the Rock U series. It is an age gap, forbidden mm romance. Caleb is a sweet, kind friend. He’s playful and flirty. Having recently experienced a very traumatic shooting event, he is suffering from PTSD and having nightmares. He can’t seem to move beyond this and is experiencing guilt and is fearful. Eric is hardworking and puts his career goals above all else. After ending a serious relationship, he seems to make bad decisions, ending up in an affair with a married man. But he is determined to get away and regroup prior to starting his career as professor. Caleb and Eric meet in Mexico. They are both on vacation and are neighbours. There is an instant attraction and the chemistry between the two is hot! What starts as a casual fling quickly becomes so much more. But discoveries are made and they end it when the vacation ends. But their connection is so strong and love has already taken its hold on both of them. This story is a great show of love and it’s healing powers with the right person. There are obstacles to their relationships and outside forces threaten their HEA. But their love is strong and their trust in each other has their relationship stronger than ever. The characters are really what make this story. Caleb and the others from his band Knot Me are such fantastic characters. They are so likeable and have such a great dynamic within their group. I wasn’t a fan of Eric. He seemed weak in his decisions and only worry about his career. Caleb worked to keep their relationship strong and solid. I also enjoyed Caleb’s parents and Eric’s mom. They were welcome additions to the story. Never Let It End is a great student/teacher, age gap read and I can’t wait to read on in this series!
This is the 3rd installment in the Rock U series featuring each of the characters in the cover band Knot Me in Arizona. This is Caleb's story - he's the rhythm guitar player and second soloist. If you have read the previous books you know that the guys were involved in a shooting in the local guitar store. Caleb is still having PTSD from the shooting. So he joins most of his band mates on a beach vacation in Mexico (Devin doesn't go with them). They are hoping a week away for some R&R will help Caleb get back on level ground.
On day 1, Caleb meets their sexy 30-something neighbor who is in the casa next to the guy's. They start a vacation fling that turns into something much deeper before the week is out. And it gets complicated when Caleb discovers that sexy Eric is going to be his IT Security professor in the coming semester at ASU. So we have an age-gap romance wrapped around the student-teacher dynamic. The first half of the book takes place in Mexico as their relationship grows. At about 50%, they are all back in Phoenix as the fall semester begins.
Caleb & Eric's story revolves about their efforts to keep their relationship a secret. But other secondary characters have other plans - including blackmailing Eric. Ultimately things sort themselves out and we get our HEA. Axel appears most often in this one, along with Silas who is coming up in the next book. We only get one band gig, but there is tons of heat in this one - Caleb & Eric are electric together! This book took a longer time to percolate compared to the others. All the focus on their week in Mexico was really about relationship development. We don't get the angst till well into the second half. But I'm loving this series and looking forward to Book 4.
I was so waiting for this one and... I'm not disappointed. Since the beginning of "Come Closer To Me", Caleb intrigues me. He's such a nice guy, always there for his best friend, but also... a bit absent for himself. He lived a very traumatic event and he has consequences, nightmares and deep guilt. His friends are worried but powerless to help him. Fortunately, he meets Eric in a heavenly place and instantly he has the ability to appease him. This slightly older, more sedate man reassures him and helps him move forward. Of course, their relationship is not so simple, but their love, trust and honesty towards each other will allow them to overcome the difficulties.
It's a beautiful story, full of hope and a great tribute to trust and communication in a couple.
-----
J'attendais tellement celui-ci et... je ne suis pas déçue. Depuis le début de "Come Closer To Me", Caleb m'intrigue.
This book is book 3 in the series. Though this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading book 1, and especially book 2. The aftermath of events that happen in book 2 are reflected in book 3, and has a big input in the story line. That's all I will say about that. However, if this is the first book in the series that you pick up, you will not be disappointed.
Christie Gordon stays true to her characters, and you get a glimpse of them all in this book. This book is about Caleb and his not so, kinda so, might be so, but it shouldn't though, relationship with Eric. Confusing, I know. But the way the author rights about it is sweet.
The thing is, Caleb and Eric meet before they realize they may be going to the same school ; Caleb as a student, and Eric as professor, in the same discipline. The good news is that Eric won't be teaching any upper division classes, so the chances of Caleb being in his class will be slim to none. Of course, they still can't be together, as long as they are at the same school. So they decide to enjoy the short time together before they split.
Of course, that short time was not enough, and circumstances change that bring Caleb and Eric together again. From there on out, nothing is quite as easy as it seems.
I will admit that Eric was frustrating to me. He was indecisive about something that could have been simple, and apparently oblivious when it was oblivious his old boss was still hot for teacher. Just sayin'. A lot of this story could have been preventable, and poor Caleb would often times have to suffer the consequences of Eric's decisions.
In the long run, this book was still good, and I was happy with the ending. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I received a copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
This was an audible book narrated by Finnley Cole, and written by Christie Gordon, as part of the Rock U book series.
I had not read the book before listening to the audible, but knew Caleb from other books in the series, so it was good to finally know how character and how he met the love of his life Eric.
Christie writes very realistic characters, so I do enjoy reading about the guys in the band Knot Me. It was instant attraction for Caleb and Eric when they met in Mexico, and they developed a strong bond immediately so they could not let go even after they agreed they could not date once they were back in Arizona.
There are always characters you love to hate, and Rajesh was definitely one of them. He would not let go of Eric even though he was told multiple times their affair was over and Eric had moved on. I know there will be others who agree with me when I say he definitely needed to learn his lesson, and that NO means NO.
The other members of the band appear throughout the story, and they are the same wonderful personalities you know from the other books in the series. Hearing their portrayal brings them all to life in a new way, and Finnley Cole does a fantastic job narrating all of them.
If you have not read or listened to the Rock U Series, add it to your list, it is worth the time! And Christie Gordon should be added to that list because she knows how to get the readers involved with her characters.
3.5 stars The Rock U series is a spin-off of the Mesa Boys series, and this third book of the series is pretty good although the insta-love in this story was really intense and fast; they fell in love in four days and exchanged love confessions a few weeks later after a brief hiatus in their relationship. It was a pretty good story overall, especially since the MCs were less immature than they often were in the Mesa Boys series. They weren't even all that awkward with each other even when they first got together for a supposedly brief vacation fling; maybe it helped that Eric was 33 and that he and Caleb were both at ease with their sexualities. Anyway, as was the case for the first two books of this series, the interior monologues of these MCs weren't as awkward (maybe cringey is a better word) or dramatic as the interior monologues of most of the MCs of the guys in the Mesa Boys series. Anyhow, this series feels less like a YA romance series masquerading as an adult romance series unlike the Mesa Boys series. It's not just the presence of open-door sex scenes that separate YA romance from adult romance for me but also how the characters think and behave. So, I'll have to see how the series goes from here, but so far, so good on feeling like I'm reading about men over twenty rather than high schoolers.
This book is about Eric and Caleb who met while they were both in Mexico in vacation. As soon as these two met they knew they wanted one another, and what started off as a summer fling, soon turned into something neither men expected.
Once they get back from their vacation both men are heartbroken, and miss each other deeply. Even though they only spent a few days together while they were in Mexico, they developed feelings in that short period of time. And now that the semester's starting they have to find a way to either make it work, or walk away.
I liked this book, I think the characters worked well together and I think the writing was good too. I definitely appreciated both of these men putting in the effort to make their relationship work even though it was complicated. I also loved that Caleb and the other guys in the band sang a song that gave them the ability to try to heal from the trauma they experienced. Eric was so supportive of Caleb the whole time, and that was sweet of him. Overall a good book, I'm looking forward to reading Silas's book. Even though he's been a side character in these books, we still don't know much about him.
*I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest review.*
This one begins with most of the guys recuperating in Mexico after that unfortunate incident with Caleb, Silas, and Axel. These guys have been through so much and poor Caleb is suffering the most with survivors guilt. Then Caleb saw Eric and it was instant attraction, which proved mutual once Eric met Caleb. This was a fast pace romance, both fell in love in just a week. That was the easy part. Now comes the hard parts, Eric is a professor starting at ASU and by some twist of faith Caleb is in his class. Eric's ex does not want to let go. Eric's former relationship is something I really don't like to read about and I usually stay away from books like those. His former lover is married with kids which Eric knew about and regrets. I'm not a fan of cheaters. Eric meeting and falling for sweet loveable Caleb is what made me forgive him that indiscretion. He was just what Caleb needed to move forward. Again we can see the maturity of Caleb support system, they were able to give both Eric and Caleb some very good advice to help. There was no relationship angst, no third act break up, just love, supportive friends, healing, and lots of steam.
I’m enjoying the stories in this series and I love the narrator, Finnley Cole, so I was very much looking forward to listening to this story. I’ll be honest and say I struggled.
I loved Caleb and Eric. Caleb’s still dealing with the fallout of witnessing a shooting where his bandmate was injured. The band is taking a break and, for Caleb, that means meeting an older man who’s also visiting and living next door. From the beginning, it was clear to me that the conflict was going to be that Eric’s a new professor in the program where Caleb is a student. And that exact thing happened – Caleb wound up in Eric’s class and instead of speaking up immediately and doing the right thing, they did something that was clearly wrong and unfair to other students. Now, the other reviews I’ve read for this book loved it, so apparently, I’m the only one who felt really uncomfortable as I watched Eric and Caleb make bad decision after bad decision.
All that being said. I’m really enjoying these books. Eric and Caleb were clearly good for each other. Good against clear evil.
As I said, Finnley Cole is a great narrator and this is a good book. I’ve enjoyed the previous and I’m looking forward to the future stories as well.
This was a great addition to this series. It's an age gap and professor/student and about recovering from a trauma. Caleb is still struggling with getting over witnessing a shooting in a shop and where one of his friends got shot. To get away from everything he goes to Mexico with his band mates for a week. Shortly after their arrival he noticed the neighbour and was keen to meet him. His name is Eric and there's an instant connection. Eric is due to start working as a professor at Caleb's university but since he won't be teaching Caleb, they decide to have a hot fling and end it when Caleb goes home. But they have fallen for each other and when Eric ends up teaching Caleb they decide they can't stay away from each other. But it comes with complications when Eric's ex is stalking and makes things difficult for him at work. But the truth comes out in the end. Eric was really good at helping Caleb recover from his trauma too. I enjoyed reading this.
Caleb had been through some really life changing trauma when he met Eric. Eric is a hottie older man that is in the neighboring space from where Caleb and his friends are vacationing to try to take some time away and start healing. Caleb and Eric have five days in a place neither is from to have a thing and they enjoy their time together. There is a strong connection and attraction and they want more than being together on vacation. Then the semester starts and they find they are teacher and student. Caleb is a senior and there are ethical issues to them being in the same class. But there are real emotional issues that can come with not pursuing a strong connection that is leading to love for this pair. This relationship is a little risky in some ways professionally, but isn't love worth the risk personally? Theirs was a good story that not only made me think but challenged me as I work in higher ed. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I just read Never Let It End and was totally blown away by the story. Recovering from a traumatic event Caleb goes down to Mexico with his friends to relax a bit before the semester starts up for his final year in college. There he meets and falls for Eric who just happens to be a new professor at his university in the upcoming semester. The two make the most of their time together and finally say farewell and return to Arizona but they can’t stop thinking of each other. I can’t spoil the fun, so I’ll just say you really need to read this book. There is family, found family, a jerk who tries to ruin it all but love is love and a problem solved enables the two to have what they truly need to feel whole and loved. Loved the story and will definitely be reading more stories of love by Christie Gordon!
I enjoyed Caleb and Eric story, they had this quality about them that just grabbed you from the start. With Caleb trying to heal what better place then Mexico with friends. Erics life is about to change so taking a month down in Mexico is the perfect reset.
This two are just drawn to each other, with a 10 year age gap a fling with no strings attached sounds like the perfect vacation.
These two will bury deep in your heart and you will be rooting for them, when the fling is over but the feelings still remain what comes next is the right amount of balance, hurt, finding strength to trust in ones self and others. Springle a jerk in to the mix and you will not be able to put this story down.
Getting the HEA does come for these two, watching them grow individually and as a couple was awesome.
Eric and Caleb have an instant connection that transcends their holiday hook-up and that's where it gets a little convoluted... Eric is a newly minted professor in the same department as Caleb is a senior student... and they keep their relationship hidden even after Eric ends up teaching Caleb... I realize this is for plot, but I struggled with that part of the plot, because honestly, a lot of the arguments were a non-factor, and if I skip past that drama, I love the relationship and the way the two men support and love each other....
This book also focuses on Caleb's recovery from the traumatic shooting that happened in a previous book, including nightmares and PTST, mentions a past sibling death and has a blackmail/angry ex type sub-plot so if any of those are triggering for you, please be aware.
