Connecting with Ukraine

Rate this book
Immigrants from Ukraine began arriving in Canada in the late 1890s,with many settling in Saskatchewan. These immigrants established their homes in Canada, but never lost connection to Ukraine and always hoped that Ukraine would someday become a free democratic country. This hope materialized 1991 when Ukraine became independent from the Soviet Union.

The book, Connecting with Ukraine, records the many different connections between Canada and Ukraine before and immediately after independence, with emphasis on Saskatchewan-Ukraine relations. These connections include government, universities, schools, non-government institutions, charities, religious organizations and individuals. The support of Canadians of Ukrainian heritage and others signaled to Ukrainians living in Ukraine that they were not alone in their pursuit of establishing a democratic society.
