Innerquest

Rate this book
When I turned forty I undertook the innerquest , which is the name I use to refer to the spiritual path. They say that religion and spirituality represent our attempt to address the problem of death. If humans were not destined to perish, we likely would not be prompted to tackle the big Who am I? Why am I here? What is the meaning of life? It would take me years of self-enquiry to root myself in bliss consciousness. During the period of my forties I wrote as many books as years devoted to meditation, which is to say, ten. These books functioned as part journal, part travelog, a way for me to reflect on what I had read and experienced, and also to formulate insights along the road home to the heart. The present volume includes five of these the first two in the series, and the final three. The five treatises in between have been included in a separate volume, entitled The One Behind the Many . The first treatise, From Sorrow Free , explains that the global dissatisfaction and unrest - depression, really - is a symptom of our desire to transcend the egoic personality and realize divine consciousness, and this is achieved not through medication but through meditation - by turning within. The second is a treatise on not, as Freud wrote, about what dreams can tell us regarding the individual’s psyche, but about what the phenomenon of dreaming itself can reveal about the nature of the universe, God, and the role the individual plays in the cosmic game of life. The third book, Hey Zeus! , discusses movies as modern day parables which reveal ourselves to ourselves by showing us who we are not. That is, we are not our egos! The villains in movies are the ego manifested as other - namely, the bad guy. The Avatar explains that God on Earth is not an isolated phenomenon that occurs once in a millennium but that we are all manifestations of the divine, we are all avatars, all we have to do is realize this for ourselves. In this book I use the teachings from both East and West to help the reader realize that awakening or enlightenment is not something new to be gained; rather, it is dissolving what we are not. Finally, New Religion is a treatise on love, which is an outpouring of the delight of being in our dealings with the family of humanity. Love is a direct result of Self-realization, and the highest expression of the divine that humans can achieve. Though these writings are separated by many years, hundreds of books, and thousands of hours of meditation, the crux, the core, the essence is the same. But where once they were concepts, they are now realized as the living reality imprinted on the heart as the answer to the only question that really Is the one I think I am the One I really am? After ten years of seeking, I found the One . . . only to realize that the One I am has always been here and now. And that the one searching was only a myth. May all beings everywhere be happy!
