Balancing a career and a relationship is never easy, and it's even harder when you are on the road and everyone wants a piece of you.

Becoming a member of an all-woman acoustic band on the bluegrass festival circuit was certainly not what Michele Scott had envisioned for herself as a young music major. A pop star is what she'd set out to be. Instead, she found her soul in an upright bass and the mountain music that some called “hick.”

Three weeks before Michele’s band sets out on their first tour she collides with the mesmerizing and irresistible David Blackstone—a man whose startling blue-green eyes and commanding presence make her insides melt like a spent candle. But Michele's last romance ended in heartbreak over her choice of career. She's worked far too hard to risk trying to manage a career and life on the road with a long distance relationship.

Her music gives her life, yet her heart yearns for something more. Can a girl have it all? Trusting David is a risk that may give her everything she wants or it will close her heart forever.

5 Stars!!! After receiving a copy of Undertones and Healing Notes through a Goodreads Giveaway, I have thoroughly enjoyed the first book. I have just started the 2nd book and can't wait to see what becomes of Rachel.

If you enjoy a good, heartfelt romance than the Sweetwater Canyon series is a must! The characters, scenes and story are beautifully written and easy to connect with. This book will forever go on my list of Favorite Romance Books.

This book is very emotional and moving. Michelle is a bass player that has reached the time limit she has given herself to make a go of a music career when she finally gets the break she was waiting for and joins a band called Sweetwater Canyon. Before heading out on tour Michelle wants to see Alison Krauss in concert. When the man in front of her gets the last two tickets; David enters her life. Neither of these characters is interested in having a relationship but the attraction grabs them and doesn't let go. Michelle has suffered emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of her last boyfriend and wants to protect her heart. David is only interested in casual sex because of his parents bad marriage and all the cheating that he witnessed. Love makes both of them take a chance and they enter a relationship. Their past histories come back to haunt them and there is much to work through before they get their HEA. Warning: in addition to the emotional and sexual abuse mentioned above there is rape in this book. If these things are triggers for you please be warned. This book was at times heartbreaking. It was a good read and I am interested in seeing what happens in the future books in this series. I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Absolutely wonderful and must read novel

Maggie Jaime son has written an absolutely amazing novel. Such a well written book.

The characters I I fell in love with from the very beginning of the novel and they never let me go even when the story ended.

The author has written such a strong and detailed story. It is detailed and realistic. It is moving and meaningful. It is beautiful and captivating.

This is a novel any reader will fall in love with and will reread many times. I highly recommend this novel as a read right now, not a TBR book.

Thank you to Netgalley for a pre publication copy. In return for an honest review! #undertones #netgalley

Michele is a born musician and she wants to fulfil her career in the music industry with a band. Just when she thought it was never going to happen Michele is head hunted by a band who is going on tour soon. Michele however has found a gentleman, in the ticket line for a concert, who she soon falls in love with. Against her better judgement due to a poor experience previously. Will she go on tour? Will her relationship survive.

I was recommended this book and the review of the recommender drew me into this book.

This book is a great romance read. It is a beautiful story that gently unfolds making nothing feel too heavy. Whilst your totally invested in the characters happy ending.

The characters each have their own unique personality and this provides important dynamics when touring. Keeping the pace up and pages turning throughout.

This book makes you laugh, cry, jump with joy and shout at the pages! The twists and turns hit just in the right places when you start to get that warm fuzzy feeling.

This first book in Maggie Lynch's heartfelt Sweetwater Canyon romance series wonders whether or not its heroine Michele can balance a relationship and a career. From the beginning, we root for her to do so, but I for one was rooting a little harder for the career. It's not often one finds a novel about an all female bluegrass band, nor one whose main character plays the upright bass. As she and her fellow musicians embark on their make-it-or-break-it tour, Michele meets David, a man who could be the love of her life. As the story unfolds, she learns to come to grips with her difficult romantic past in order to find true love in the present while grappling with questions about how the romance can possibly survive her life on the road. What I particularly loved in this beautifully written novel (with quite a few passionate sex scenes!) were all the supporting characters, from Michele's colorful, endearing (most of the time) band mates to her practically perfect (yet highly believable) parents. There are quite a few emotional rollercoasters in this page-turner along with a satisfying conclusion. And the story of one of Michele's bandmates with a dark past is just beginning at the end of Book 1 and into Book 2 of the Sweetwater Canyon series. If you enjoy romance literature, be sure to get your hands on this book... NOW!

Review Undertones by Maggie Lynch, Maggie Jaimeson

Michelle’s story. The story is about Michelle Scott music is her first love, men just have to take a very last place. Having just joined an all girl group as their lead singer and bassist, just before going on their first tour together she meets David Blackstone at a concert. She then starts to have a change of heart but the timing is all wrong. He is a self made millionaire who only deals in casual flings not involvements. This book follows Michelle’s journey travelling across the country with the band and all the complications that it brings and in addition her almost long distance relationship with David!

What a a story! Couldn’t put it down. Well written and touches on some difficult situations beautifully. Very well done Maggie . Just off to get some of the other book in the series .

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I really enjoyed this heart-felt story. Michele's story is very intriguing. She has had a tough time and she achieves her dream job and a gorgeous man. What more can you ask for? Their relationship isn't easy, but with David's tenacity... The narrator was excellent. This is my first Maggie Lynch book and will be looking forward to the rest of the series.

I love the way Maggie tells a story, the way she shows the relationships between the band members, the way she uses musical words and phrases to describe setting and emotions. After reading "Undertones" I was hooked and, to date, have read all of her Sweetwater Canyon stories.

I fell in love with the characters of this book. The women of the band are different, but passionate. It was emotional to see what Michelle and Jack go through. Also, what Rachel went through, was very traumatic. I am looking forward to reading book number two.

This is a well-written book about following your dreams, letting go of your past, and listening to your heart. The characters are endearing and likable. Most of the characters have some baggage from their past they are dealing with and slowing overcoming. The story will take you on an emotional rollercoaster from the sweet introduction of a love interest, to the anger of an assault, sadness of disappointment, and back to the happiness of true love.

I listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator Sonja Field helped the story leap off the pages. The accents, time, and diction helped to give the story an even more realistic tone of voice. I felt like I was seeing this story take place before my eyes.

I was given a copy of this book in hopes I would provide an honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own and have in no way been influenced. I recommend this book to romance fans.

This author is new to me and I will definitely go look for more books by her. This book is not your normal romance. What I mean is that it is as much about the main character, Michele's journey to find herself and her passion in music as it is about finding her happily ever after. I loved the interplay between the music and the band members as much as I loved the developing romantic relationship.

The other thing I really appreciated was that the sex wasn't easy. Too often romance novels make it seem so easy to fall into bed with the hero. This one explores the sexual relationship more realistically, especially when the heroine has not had a good experience with it in the past.

Of course the hero is hot and sexy, and just enough Alpha to make me fall in love with him. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I felt the climactic moment centered more around the problems of a second character than it did Michele. Though the problem did effect the entire band and did effect Michele's relationship with the hero. On the other hand, I can't wait to read Rachel's story and find out how she can ever fall in love after what happened to her. I'd probably really give this 4-1/2 stars, but I don't know how to do that on this site.

This is a fantastic book. Loved it. Not many authors write about rape and go that in depth into it. Although Rachel's was more damaging physically, you wrote about two different situations of rape. Kuddos to you

After being physically and mentally abused be her previous boyfriend Jon, Michelle thinks that she doesn't deserve to have someone love her because she was being selfish in what she wanted or needed sexually. Then she found David and didn't want to believe that it was true and would last. Then with the violent rape if Rachel everything starts going to hell for the band. They do eventually get things somewhat back to normal as far as the band is concerned but the women are all hurting in different ways and not sure how to help Michelle over her broken heart and Rachel recover from emotional and physical pain of the rape.

Making Music Together

In Undertones: Michele's Story, authors Lynch and Jaimeson have written a passionate romance with characters who will keep readers turning pages. As Michele Scott realizes her dream of being a professional musician in an all-woman, traveling band, she must also come to grips with her emotions and angst over her tempestuous relationship with boyfriend David Blackstone. The authors' well-researched knowledge of music adds interest and credibility to the story. Readers will also love the supporting characters, especially teenager Kat, who plays accordion and cupid throughout the band's trek to various gigs across America. Michele's fellow musicians Theresa, Sarah, Rachel each has issues to resolve, so readers will want to continue this series, Sweetwater Canyon!

See my review on Amazon. Michelle is the mc and plays acoustic bass. I would love to hear Sweet Water Canyon sing a cappella!
Paged through some too explicit sex scenes.
Recommended for all music lovers.

A Romance for Music Lovers

This was a free ebook pick-up and it turned out to be winner. I love music and that is a strong theme throughout the story. It was so interesting to get a feel for the life of a professional musician.
Sex parts were a bit graphic but just skipped through and the overall tale was excellent to the end. Happy reading!

I wrote this review after listening to the audio rendition of this story. I loved the narrator's interruption of the characters vocal characters.
This is a very complex story, and it is a very simple story. Man and woman encounter each other, both not wanting a relationship, but want to explore the attraction.
The previous damage done by a previous partner, causes stress, but is overcome by support of the stranger /friend. All goes well until a minor misunderstanding becomes a very big road block.
Everyone sees how good they are together, so friends and family are willing to help to get relationship back on rails.

A heartwrenching story. I found myself wanting to comfort not just Michele, but the rest of her band. This is a story about bullying, mental abuse and a desire to find love. Each member of the band has a problem. Michele's seems to be the absolute worst. Her ex made her feel life a whore for wanting to find her own satisfaction.

Enter David. He is determined not to find true love. After a few misunderstandings and ugly words/actions, David and Michele realize they can't let go.

Can they open their hearts to real love?

Really good story about a musician who gets the chance to join a band on the last day she'd given herself to succeed. Then she meets a man who helps her heal from a very abusive two year relationship.

The book was good but the characters could have been clearer. One other drawback was I had no idea of how the time was passing and the ending was a bit abrupt. Still a good book overall and I plan to read about the rest of the band.

Wonderful story!

I loved this book! It is a story about a band o f women musicians. The story felt real, as did the characters. A reader will likely want these women as friends. Music travel, love, and romance abound, and a really hot guy! I just finished reading this book and have purchased the next one in the series.

Wonderful story about life and the curves it throws at you.

Michelle is just about to give up on her dream of being a full time musician then the opportunity drops in her lap.
Meeting David changed her personal life. Jealousy and misunderstanding treats the couple apart, but the love is still there.
Beautiful story about friendship and love.

This book was packed with so much emotions and problems with all the members of the band. What happened to Rachel was horrific, but they all banded together to help her heal. Michelle had to overcome her emotional and phsical abuse by her ex. Then she finally learns to love again and a jealous David hurts her in the worse possible way. It was great reading how David never gave up on his love for Michelle and how she finally healed enough to forgive him.I loved how the women all banded together and formed a family.
