Being signed to a Premier League football club should have been a dream come true, but instead, it’s a nightmare. The reason? My teammate, Theo Lewin. We’ve hated each other since the day we met, and now, our rivalry is spiralling out of control.
When we hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons, our manager gives us an ultimatum. Learn to work together and curb our reckless behaviour, or risk being transferred to another team. Banished to a far-flung tropical island, attending a rehab centre for the elite, we’re expected to not only spend our days together, but our nights, too.
This can only end one way. In disaster. Except… our forced proximity is changing everything between us in a way I never could have anticipated.
There’s a saying… what happens on the island, stays on the island. Before we go back to reality, we’re going to be reckless one last time.
Reckless is a standalone enemies to lovers M/M romance between two professional football (soccer) teammates. This novel was previously part of the Unlucky 13 series.
Becca Steele is a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of new adult romance from contemporary to dark. Her books have been translated into multiple languages.

Reckless is another fantastic enemies-to-lovers romance from this author. I love her previous stories with this trope and this is another great addition. Theo and Jordan go on quite the journey in this story that I could not get enough of.
Theo and Jordan are both highly talented and competitive soccer players. Due to their complicated past together their time at the resort is met with blatant hostility. Being forced to room together at this resort brings up many harsh truths that both Theo and Jordan are reluctant to admit and deal with. Over time they finally start to open up to one another and realize they don't actually hate each other.
When Theo and Jordan start realizing they share a mutual attraction is one of the best parts of this story. Both are equally shocked and intrigued at this new development in their relationship, which quickly escalates towards something incredible real, and substantial. I loved how both Theo and Jordan yearned for one another and felt a desperate need to protect and own the other. Their relationship is intense and I could not get enough of them together.

I need to stop reading this author because I always have the same issue yet I can’t seem to put her books down. 🙄🙄🤡. I like the way this started but the transition from enemies to lovers was just ridiculous as it is in allllllll her books. The setup in this one really emphasized how much they hate each other so for them to go to this island, share a room and watch each other get off the first night made no sense. Then they’d avoid each other for a couple days then more physical stuff happened and at some point I just lost interest. It picked back up once they left the island and did get a tad angsty but it just felt like every other book this author has written.
I really loved this book, it was so good! The transition from hating each other to falling in love was so well done, and the pacing of it was perfect, seeing their feelings for each other slowly change. While I loved reading their time spent at black diamond, I loved that that wasn't the whole book and really enjoyed part 3 once they went home. I really thought this was such a good book, I think anyone who loved Savage Rivals by this author will like this too.
Since they were 13, Jordan and Theo have grown-up as football (soccer) rivals. Theo thinks Jordan is a self-centered brat who’s always seeking attention. Jordan thinks Theo is stuck up and pretentious. The guys are 19 now and Jordan’s just been called up to the Premier League to take Theo’s position on his team. Theo has been shifted to a different position due to a teammate’s injury.
Once Jordan joins the team, things do not go smoothly. Theo and Jordan have several run ins with each other that draw negative attention to the team. So once the season is over, they’re forced to go to Black Diamond to learn how to get along. Both of them say they are straight, but they’re starting to feel some new things towards one another.
“It’s fascinating.” Lifting his hand, he traced a finger across my lips, his gaze dark and hot. Pressing closer, he moved under the water, his erection sliding against my thigh. “How can I loathe you so much, and yet you have this effect on me?”
After they arrive, they slowly learn that maybe they aren’t so different and might actually really like each other. Things progress and they decide to fully enjoy each other’s body and company while on the island. While there, Theo and Jordan have a lot of hot and steamy first times with each other.
There was a connection between us that I’d never had with any of my other sexual partners. A connection that had been there from the moment we met, even though it had always been warped and acerbic. That had to be why everything was so different. Because it was him. He was the one making me feel this way. And he was on his knees for me because he wanted to be.
Once they arrive back home, they try to distance themselves and just be friends. They’re playing together better than ever, but they miss each other terribly. The pull is too strong and they both decide they really want to be together after all.
I wanted to kiss him, to feel his lips on mine. I couldn’t even remember what it was like to not want him. How had we ever hated each other so much?
My favorite parts of this book are when the two MCs are at Black Diamond. I loved seeing them work through their issues together and get closer. While realizing their feelings for one another comes fairly easily to them, the reality of navigating the situation as professional footballers isn’t as cut and dry. Luckily, they have each other and a good support system.
*** I received an ARC of this book from Wordsmith Publicity and this is my honest opinion. ***
I was much more into the book during the first half when they were still enemies. Them getting together felt so rushed. There wasn’t enough buildup for me between the three phases: 1) I hate you!!! 2) Hey…you’re not so bad!!! 3) I really like you. Like a LOT. But it was still so worth reading. Solid banter & silliness. Good vibes. I had fun!!😊
"That had to be why everything was so different. Because it was him. He was the one making me feel this way. And he was on his knees for me because he wanted to be."
Reckless by Becca Steele is book 12 in the standalone, multi-author, MM Unlucky 13 series, which is set around an all inclusive, private resort built exclusively for the troubled elite. This is Theo and Jordan's story.
This series has been a real mixed bag of reads for me, but Becca Steele writes enemies to lovers how I like it, and throw in the English humour and football (soccer for some of you!) back story and I was hooked!
Tropes:
🖤 Enemies to lovers 🖤 Opposites attract 🖤 Sports romance (same team) 🖤 First times 🖤 Forced proximity 🖤 All the steam 🖤 All the feels 🖤 HEA
"I thought I could forget everything that happened on the island, but guess what? Being your friend is a fucking lost cause because you still make my fucking dick hard "
I love this authors brand of enemies to lovers. Steele has a way of making MCs who absolutely LOATHE each other somehow slowly turn that passionate hate into an all consuming love that is 100% believable. It's like their special brand of writer magic. Theo and Jordan were the same. These two have such a long-standing animosity that stems from meeting as young teens. You know how how teens can be. They make snap judgements and those judgements stayed with them into their grown up careers as professional footballers. It was easy for them to not worry about since Theo and Jordan played in different leagues. That is, until Jordan gets traded to Theo's team. Oh and did I mention they play the same position? *evil cackle*
Being in each other's orbit had Theo and Jordan constantly at each others throats. When their issues started to influence more than just themselves it was time for management to step in and their decision sent the men packing to good ol Black Diamond Resort. Forcing two volatile footballers to share the same villa was either going to end up with one dead or them finally being made to get along. I just don't think management expected them to get along so well they ended up sharing the same bed, not just the villa.
"The point is I'm a fucking catch."
"There's that modesty I love so much."
I really enjoyed watching Theo and Jordan get closer and their walls slowly coming down. Like I said before, they made judgements of each other based on meeting as teens. It was kind of a shock to both of them to learn the other wasn't exactly who they thought they were. It was even more shocking to them that the feelings that had begun to stir up on the Island followed them back home. Points have to be given cause they did fight it, but their connection was just too strong.
The side characters aka their teammates were also great additions to the story. Poor Ruben is going to have to invest in eye bleach after everything. I also really loved the dancer JJ who worked at the club and I have to wonder if he'll ever have a story. I really would like to see him get an HEA as spectacular as Theo and Jordan.
4.5⭐️ - this book was so sweet! I absolutely loved the transition from rivals to lovers for Jordan and Theo!
This started a bit slow but the build up really set the stage for how much these two could not stand each other. There was so much animosity and it continue to build over the course of 6 years. I was very curious how the transition to lovers would work. It was so seamless. All of the anger fueled them to ultimately combust and they’d already physically fought so the next thing - intimacy!
Jordan and Theo had no one to distract them from the feud while they were at the resort so it all culminated in a very passionate and surprising kiss. A kiss that needed to happen!
I absolutely adored how open and honest they were with each other once they admitted their feelings. That kind of vulnerability is so wildly sexy!! While this definitely had spice there was also so much emotional foreplay!! It was quite the aphrodisiac!
I loved how accepting their teammates, coaches, team staff and Jordan’s dad was with their coming out. It was handled so beautifully.
This might just be my favourite Becca Steele book - I really prefer when she writes older characters who aren't at school/uni I think.
Liked the balance between the relationship and the football content - yes it's football not soccer, let's be honest American Football should really be called American Rugby...
I actually liked both characters and the way the story developed. The cameo from JJ was cute too. I want more stories from these footballers though, Reuben particularly, and maybe with some of the LSU characters but grown up!
4.5 stars - Sweet and sappy, grumpy/ sunshine, enemies to lovers, low angst, plot was simple, I enjoyed the pace. No complaints from me, I really liked this.
How can I loathe you so much, and yet you have this effect on me? Why do you insist on fucking with me like this, Jordan?
🌟 Star Rating - 5/5 🔥 Spice Rating - 3/5
What To Expect: 🖤 MM Romance ❤️ Soccer Players 🖤 Enemies to Lovers ❤️ Forced Proximity 🖤 Bi Awakening ❤️ HEA
Why it had to be him, of all people, that made me appreciate a man's body in a whole new way, I didn't know. Fate had a twisted sense of humour.
𝑨𝑹𝑪 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘
This was Jordan and Theo's story and oh what a story it was! Full of angst and emotions, I was captivated from the first chapter and could not put it down. These two despised each other so much, it was hard to see how that could change into anything else but wow it was beautiful! It was so good seeing them overwhelmed by the new discovery of their attraction to one another and having to overcome all the adversities to be together, it made it feel so realistic. I really loved this book so much, I'm learning Becca Steele is becoming an auto-buy author for me because she has such a good plot and character balance in her books! Overall this was another amazing addition to the series I'm falling in love with!
«I wanted him. Only him. Theo Lewin. My rival. My teammate. My friend. The man who gave me fucking butterflies and made my heart race. There was no one else for me. »
i wouldn’t put this on par with exiled at all, but i had a really good time with this story and these characters. the vibes were on point, and i loved all the hurt/comfort aspects.
also loved getting to visit jj a few times, and a little cole and huxley cameo as well.
Another Amazing TRUE Enemies To Lovers, I Loved This Book SM! And Had Literally The Time Of My Life Reading This And I Highly Recommend Y’all Read This Book For A Good MM Enemies To Lovers Romance And I Highly Recommend The Unlucky 13 Series As Well!🥰😆🫶💕

I Did It On Audio This Time Thinking I Was Gonna Be Obsessed With This The Second Tine Around, No Still Feel The Same As The First Time. It Was Di e But It Was Life Changing Ir SO GOOD! But I Do Recommend Reading This If You Want A Good Enemies To Lovers Book And I Do Recommend On Audio Because Audiobook Was Good.💕💕💕💕
Reckless is an Unlucky 13 book set in the Black Diamond Resort and Spa world. While this book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone.
Im a huge Becca Steele stan, my favourite trope is rivals to lovers and this is not the first book of hers with this trope that I've loved! It's a total vibe and so is this book!
Jordan and Theo have been rivals since they were teenagers and it's morphed into a palpable hate that impact both their careers. Their tension and sheer disdain for each other is honestly something I live for. It creates the best on page chemistry…as they say there's a fine line between love and hate after all.
I've enjoyed each book I've read from this shared world and this book was no different. I've loved experiencing the different styles and journeys the characters take. Becca's writing always has an easy flow to it. It make binge reading her books very easy, as I devoured this book in one day.
I also love that it ties back into her already established world, if you've read her other LSU series you might see a character fave. But if you haven't it will absolutely not impact your reading experience. I feel like Becca does this seamlessly with her books. It adds more to the overall experience but doesn't take anything away.
While this is a shared world and the books don't have to be read in order and can be read as a standalone I highly recommend giving this series a read! You can start here with Reckless or head back to beginning.
Characterization: poor Writing: mid Showing: none Telling: tons Smut: present, but mid Character growth: it happened but I don’t remember it happening Plot: kinda boring Overall: just kinda strange at times?
I’m not usually this harsh in my ratings but like this book was kinda just not good? 2.5 stars? Sooooo much showing and not telling and it honestly felt like she put maybe 5 minutes of thought into these characters, they felt so two-dimensional. Addiction was a plotline for like 2 seconds and then he just didn’t struggle with it again. Idk I didn’t have a horrible time, but I honestly can’t rate it any higher sorry lol
I'm angry I finished this. Only about 35% of this book I enjoyed. The rest made me want to punch my kindle. There was more about fighting, publicity, soccer and coming out than their relationship itself. Just a very unsatisfying book. Which sucks because I've loved all the other books I've read in this series by other authors.
We are almost at the end of the Unlucky 13 series and I’m so sad! This series had been amazing. I’ve loved all the stories and it’s been so fun to see all the different pieces of the Black Diamond resort island! Becca Steele’s book was a fantastic enemies to lovers that was done so well!
Jordan and Theo hated each other from the start and we could absolutely feel that. I really liked how their relationship developed. Jordan was a really fun character and I loved how environmentally conscious he was. It was written in a way that it didn’t seem fake or too much. Theo has a little bit of a crummy past and it was wonderful to see him grow from that and learn to let Jordan and his teammates in!
When they first went to Black Diamond I was confused as to why they were going to the rehab side. Figured it would just be to get away and they’d be on the resort side. It quickly became apparent why this happened though and it really worked. The therapy helped both of them work through some issues and it was interesting to see an issue I’ve never seen in a book before get worked on at rehab.
I loved the cameos we got from other Becca Steele books. It was so neat to recognize the places and characters. However, if you haven’t read those books it’s not a big deal at all. You won’t be lost in the slightest. If you’ve enjoyed this author before or have been loving the rest of this series you will not be disappointed with this story!
Reckless is enemies to lovers, teammates, history of hate, "class" divide, forced proximity, double bi-awakening and I 👏 LOVED 👏 IT
This was so swoony and so funny and so spicy and so sad and so happy all rolled in one, I had real high hopes for this because I love Savage Rivals so much and this faaar exceeded my expectations.
Theo and Jordan meet when they are 13 and immediately dislike eachother. They end up playing for different teams which holds even more resentment for Jordan, until he is snapped up to play his dream team, Glevum. Which is also the team Theo plays for. Ohhh, and they play the same position, so Theo gets booted to a different position and Jordan comes to take his place 😈 so OF COURSE they are at each others throats literally the second Jordan signs his paperwork.
And it doesn't go unnoticed thanks to a few small public incidents, and they end up sent to Black Diamond to THINK ABOUT WHAT THEY'VE DONE. It's very rich people naughty step and I love it.
It becomes clear this is what they both need, for different reasons, and their treatments and time together help them massively. And, lead to them realising there is a real thin line between hate and lust.
The spice in this was IMMACULATE, and I loved the storyline too and loved how everything ended. I didn't want this to end, I could have read so much more of them!
This is another amazing addition to this series, I'm so sad there is only one left after this!
Also. LSU pop-ups❤️ I cannot wait for more books in that series.
And I really desperate need a Reuben book. Doesn't even have to be a spicy romance book. I just need more of him!!!
Anyway this review was so long for no reason but I loved this 10 out 10, 100% recommend ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
~ARC received from Wordsmith Publicity and this is my honest review~
'Fuck. Was it bigger than mine? That couldn’t be possible; he’d lord it over me forever.' With all the MM romances I've read, I'm surprised that this hasn't come up more.
What I loved most about this is that they sounded like the 19 year olds they were meant to be.
They hated each other for petty reasons, and I found it more believable than I would have if someone older had said it.
Also, the extremely unlikely way they got together in the first place. Too implausible by far but I just ate it all up.
Also, they really did have unending horn. Good Lord.
"Seeing the way you control the ball turns me on."
Mmmm I bet it does💀
Anyway this was a really good read. Felt like I was falling into a slump so I'm specifically seeking out books with double bi awakenings since it's my kryptonite, and I have to say, so far, it's really working out.
this can't be the same author who wrote savage rivals (unless i was in some kind of fever dream when i read that one, and it was just as bad as this book but i'm definitely not rereading to find out because i'll be crushed if that turns out to be true). what a disappointment.
i don't know, it feels like the author just wrote the scenes they were most excited about and didn't bother tying them together or fully developing the plot, the characters, and more importantly, their relationship.
When I saw Becca was writing another MM sports romance, ya know I just had to get this 😍! Happy to have gotten the #ARC. Loved Jordan & Theo, devoured the story in 7hrs.
An enjoyable New-Adult MM football romance with enemies to lovers, misconceptions, lots of banters & grappling, sweet teammates, media stories, resort & rehab, healing, becoming friends & bi-awakening (with 1st times!)...& Of course the real world, when their bubble bursts! Will they risk it all?
Oh yes, It was quite the journey. Jordan is bratty, show off. Theo is posh, private. The friendship they form is sweet, plus they're hot. Love me a vers couple 🔥. Tried to stay away, but when in, all in. Adored the teammates & agents! RTC.
This just fell a little flat for me unfortunately. It was a nice quick read but it all felt very surface level and I just felt meh about the whole thing.
Hot, steamy and a little complicated in the best possible way! Jordan and Theo have been each other’s biggest rivals…biggest enemies. Since they were 13 years old they have been at each other’s throats. Now they are footballers playing on the same team and it’s not going well for them. The management is sick of the bickering and they are putting their foot down. These two will get along if it’s the last thing they do. They are sent to a resort…for healing and much needed help. What they are not expecting is to actually have feelings for each other….feelings that can change how they feel about themselves and each other. This was an emotional quick read that had a lot of heat. These two had crazy hot chemistry and sassy banter. Both had some walls that had to be removed before having a happy future but boy did they do the work. I really enjoyed the friend/teammate support and laugh out loud text feed. I definitely look forward to reading more books by this author.
This was a really nice read! The rivals to lovers felt genuine in these circumstances and I always have a soft spot for English football players. I enjoyed the slower burn of their relationship and how it progresses over at least a year. The time spent in Black Diamond was just right, it didn’t take over the book so still felt like a sports romance rather than addiction fuelled one. This was surprisingly low angst but not enough to be boring, a nice easy read between some heavier ones. I’ve never read this author before but keen to try more now
I don’t know why I didn’t like it so much the first time o read it, but then I saw Will Watt narrated one of the MCs and I figured I could de good with a re-read.
I’m happy with my decision because I did enjoy it a lot more this time around, the chemistry between Theo and Jordan was fun and inevitable and surprisingly their transition from silly rivals to lovers made sense.
I adore everything that Becca Steele writes, but damn, this might be her best work among her M/Ms other beautiful stories!!! It might even topped my most favorite "Savage Rivals".... I loved the way Becca is delivering her characters, with the right amount of spice that spring her stories and her amazing sense of humor!!! Jordan and Theo was a revalation, not only for us the readers, but for each other as well!!! And the scenery was absolutely gorgeous!!! If you are into M/M romance, this is definitely a book that you don't want to miss!!!
"You're the bane of my fucking existence, Jordan Emery."
Theo and Jordan were at odds since they were thirteen years old... They had different upbringing and the only thing that could connect them was football... Unfortunately for them and the others around them, they had a mutual hatred for each other and it showed in every opportunity they had... Now, they've been forced to work together on the same football team, but because of the animosity between them that it's causing trouble to everyone, they are banned together in a private tropical island resort to resolve their issues... and not only that, but they are forced to be roommates as well!!! How well can this work for them???
"From the age of thirteen, we were enemies. It was an indisputable fact. The sun rose in the east. The moon orbited the earth. Jordan Emery and Theodore Lewin hated each other."
Well, in that island, Jordan and Theo will rediscovered themselves and they will find out that their enemy is not only what they think they are and they will come closer than they want... There is a bond between them and it is connecting them in a deeper level than they believe!!! Both guys were delicious to watch!!! Jordan seemed the shallow one and he was definitely the funny one, but I liked broody and possed Theo as well!!! They were so different from each other, so inevitably, they were just perfect together!!!
"How can I loathe you so much, and yet you have this effect on me? Why do you insist on fucking with me like this, Jordan?"
Honestly, I don't know what else to say to you than that I really loved this story and these characters!!! I loved that Becca gave them the time to grow up and understand each other... I won't hide to you that I loved seeing them fighting too... it was so hot!!! And of course the steamy levels and the intensity between Jordan and Theo was out of this world!!! This story was so amazing!!! Well done, Becca!!!
"Love will triumph over hate."
**I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review**
“I’d never hated anyone until I met him. But from the age of thirteen, we were enemies. It was an indisputable fact. The sun rose in the east. The moon orbited the earth. Jordan Emery and Theodore Lewin hated each other.”
Another fantastic sports romance from Becca Steele! I was so excited that the author had a book in the Unlucky 13 series, and Reckless did not disappoint. 👏🏻
Highlights: ▪️rivals to lovers ▪️teammates ▪️sexual awakening ▪️forced proximity ▪️sexual tension to the max!! ▪️steamy ▪️amazing HEA
Wow—Theo and Jordan had epic sexual tension. Those early fights had my blood boiling, not from anger but from the heat from those two. So delicious. I loved how the book had three parts, as the book had three distinct timelines: before the island, the island, and after the island. Theo and Jordan’s HEA had me smiling and swooning, loved every second of it!!! 🤗
Favorite quote: “I angled my head forwards, and my heart stuttered when soft lips brushed against mine. “For once in your life, do what you’re told, and shut the fuck up.” “Okay,” he breathed. I kissed the word from his mouth.”
Reckless is out NOW in KU. There is also an alternative edition paperback that I have my eye on…so pretty!
I absolutely loved this book! I am a huge fan of enemies to lovers and I'm an even bigger fan of Becca Steele.
She introduced me to enemies to lovers MM books thanks to Savage Rivals (it still lives rent free in my head and now that I think about it I should re-read it because why not) and these kinds of books are her piece de resistance!
This was my first book from the Black Diamond series (I know, I'm sorry) but it can be read as a standalone.
Jordan and Theo were really adorable but since the beginning I really wanted to bang their heads together because they were sooo infuriating and full of sh*t.
Their vulnerable states made me want to hug them so badly. Theo's past was heartbreaking and I'm so glad Jordan was there for him during those weeks on the rehab island. They were both flawed and an idiotic duo but they found solace in each other and they worked on themselves together. This made my stupid emotional heart melt.
