Rate this book
Neighboring kingdoms divided by betrayal. A pair of rulers driven by duty. Will true love save their realms, or plunge them into bloody chaos? Princess Liana has given up on finding a way out of her arranged marriage. Her people are starving thanks to her useless father and selling her hand to the highest bidder is the only way to save them. On the eve of her engagement party, she allows herself one last night of freedom with her sisters. But when she discovers a portal to the lost fae kingdom, Liana dares to dream there might be another way to save her kingdom. Callum hopes his vision for the future will bury his haunted past. Despite centuries of animosity between fae and humans, he wants to help Liana save her kingdom, but the secrets he's keeping about what really happened before the fae kingdom vanished could cost her everything. Entangled in a passion beyond her wildest dreams, Liana is horrified when the fae ball ends in bloodshed and she barely escapes with her life. Something is wrong with the fae's magic. Callum doesn't remember her, or the kiss they shared, and the only way for Liana to save herself from marriage and her people from hunger, is to save the fae first.

But with every tick of the clock, animosities old and new spill over. Will Liana and Callum overcome the past and unite their kingdoms once more, or will true love plunge them into bloody chaos?

A Shimmer Between is the blush-inducing first book in the Lost Kingdom fantasy romance series. For fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and From Blood and Ash , this tale of a stubborn princess and her haunted hero is a seductively romantic retelling of the Grimm brother's fairy tale, 12 Dancing Princesses.

I really enjoyed reading this book, it is beautifully written. The way Evelyn describes everything allowed me to envision everything, as a mini-movie in my head, as I am reading it. Each time Liana went back to Stargard, I got more, and more, nuggets of information about this wonderful world. There is mystery and intrigue, and I could not get enough of it. I loved the dynamic between Liana and Callum, even when there was discord between the two of them. I love Callum's "I will burn the world for you" attitude, and that he has proven it multiple times.
I would recommend that anyone who loves Fae and fated mates read this book.

Felt like the book was in two parts. You had part one that was all smut that took place in the span of 3 days and the second part was all plot without much trace of the beginnings undertones.
