To Viking warrior Magnus, marriage is naught but a contract, a bargain between men for land and title. Lust, love—he scorns such notions as weak and unmanly. But three days before he’s to wed a highland princess, he falls into the maelstrom of a maid’s startled eyes. Their passionate tryst has him rethinking his notions, and he struggles to find a way to keep the beguiling Deidra while honoring the marriage contract he’s arranged with the father of his betrothed.
Deidra cannot take a walk in the forest without finding a wounded dove. Devoted to her menagerie of injured bears, peacocks, and wolves, she vows to disobey her Da when he betroths her to the Norse warrior known as the Destroyer. Until, disguised as a maid, she’s rescued from a would-be rapist by the Destroyer himself. How can any call him ugly or cruel? For he treats her as if she is made of spun glass, and teaches her the magikal pleasures of the flesh.
But Magnus is furious when he learns the woman he’s fallen so deeply for is none other than his betrothed. For there’s nothing he despises more than a deceitful female...except, perhaps, two of them...
Award winning, author Jianne Carlo’s motto is simple: Alpha Me Please.
While strong heroines, exotic locations, and cultural differences are her forte, she goes weak in the knees for warriors of any type, rebels, SEAls, Vikings, and bad-ass mercenaries. Send her a man with an attitude and she’ll find the right woman to tame him.
Nothing makes Jianne’s day more than an email from someone who’s read one of her books. So far, she’s received emails from almost every continent on the planet. Almost…
Jianne Carlo has done it again... this time with The Destroyer. The love story between Magnus and Deidra is nothing short of fireworks. Love the connection between these two unlikely people. The characters in this book are both unique and intriguing. Jianne Carlo keeps me coming back for more. I highly recommend this book (and the others in the series) if you enjoy Viking romance. I know I'll be watching for new books for sure :)
I love this books. This book's couple is sort of the odd birds of the families. but it was sweet nonetheless. I love Dierdra, and how she loved Magnus and though him beautiful even when everyone else was desperately afraid of him on sight.

My Review: I really am liking these characters but I feel so lost each time I start a new book in this series, its like I am coming while the story is already in progress. This on in particular I really wanted to know more about Deirdra's back story, she lives in the north but has 3 aging tigers?! How where did she get them? So many unanswered questions. But like the rest in the series I am definitely satisfied with the steamy end of things, definitely no lacking of description there. I believe there is one more in the series and while I will enjoy it I think I might be okay with the series being over.
Like I've said before, I hate giving books one star ratings unless they absolutely deserve it. This book dives right in to dialogue. I wish the author could have given a little smidgen of background story for the readers. I know it's part of a series, but what some authors don't realize is that most people pick up books without knowing that there are prequels said books, and they start reading.
My suggestion to all authors is to tell the story in a way that doesn't leave a reader confused, and to make it so that the reader will want to read more of their stories.
Another thing wrong with this story is that the author also tried to revert back to the correct dialogue from the time period. I didn't really care for that at all because it made the story seem really fake.
The only redeeming quality of this book is that it's about Vikings. This does not make me want to read her other books at all.
Things were rocking and rolling nicely in Viking-land until Scottish lassie Diedra pulled out her menagerie of wild, exotic animals - peacocks, tigers, a bear, and a freakin' monkey named Athena. That's when this book lost most of my respect for good storytelling and good taste.
I loved the twin Fiona - the name always reminds me of Shrek.
