Winston and Archie: The Collected Correspondence of Winston Churchill and Archibald Sinclair 1915-1960

Rate this book
Winston & Archie includes the personal and professional correspondence between Sir Winston Churchill and his life-long friend Sir Archibald Sinclair, Leader of the Liberal Party from 1935 to 1945 and Air Minister in Churchill's wartime government.

Churchill and Sinclair served together in the Flanders trenches, fought the Bolsheviks from the War Office (1919-21) and managed the British Empire while at the Colonial Office (1921-22). They stood shoulder to shoulder against appeasement during the 1930s and, on attaining the premiership in May 1940, Churchill appointed Sinclair to the vital position of Secretary of State for Air, for war against Nazi Germany.
Many of these letters are published here for the first time, and are printed together with explanatory text and extensive annotations. As well as a record of an important friendship they provide a unique and detailed insight into the relationship between the Air Ministry and the Prime Minister at a time of national peril.
