Garrett Sinclair escapes from prison to rescue his team from the manipulations of two tech moguls and learns of a devastating family secret in the process.
Influential tech magnate Mitch Drewson calls on Sinclair and the Dagger team to protect his Project Optimus. An ambitious endeavor to empower citizens to protect financial and personal data in the face of increasingly authoritarian federal governments, Project Optimus is a threat to Aurelius Blanc’s Phalanx Corporation. Blanc’s data collection and media application is enabling a global security state through partnerships with the major industrialized nations, creating a technofascism that monitors the activity of everyone with a smartphone, tablet, computer, or any web connected device.
When Phalanx assassin squads overrun an Optimus server farm in California and attack an Optimus coder named Blair Campbell, Sinclair must deploy the troops that Drewson has marshalled to save Blair and protect the remainder of the Optimus team so they can finish their important work—which includes deciphering the mysterious Phalanx Code, suspected to be Phalanx’ kill list of Optimus employees.
With Phalanx squads hunting him and those he loves, Sinclair must determine who he can trust while a part of his past comes back to haunt him and threaten everything he holds dear. Nonstop action and authentic detail makes this the strongest entry yet in the thrilling Garrett Sinclair series.

This modern-day fast action military thriller really packs a punch. This is the third book in the Garrett Sinclair series, but you don't have to have read the first two to enjoy this one. It is a classic tale of good vs evil.
General Sinclair and his Special Forces Dagger Team are back together again to save the country and perhaps the world. They've been recruited into a global information war between two tech giants that are vying for domination and the secret of the Phalanx Code. There is layer upon layer of subterfuge, sabotage, lying, and backstabbing while they are using state of the art aircraft, vehicles, weapons, and communications. At times, not unlike our intrepid hero, I didn't know who to believe or trust, which added to the fever pitch of this novel. Sinclair, his team, his friends, and his family members are constantly put into precarious situations. Sacrifices must be made. Will everyone come out unscathed? Maybe not.
Fans of military fiction and action-packed adventure are sure to love this book. Personally, I love these characters more and more with each new book in the series, and I enjoyed all the excitement.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for giving me the opportunity to read a DRC of this novel. All opinions expressed are my own.
I was not a great fan of Garrett Sinclair in the first book, I liked Jake Mahegan better. The last book in the Sinclair turned this around and in this one we get both of them at their best. The Phalanx Code is the third Garrett Sinclair story and it¨s a whirlwind. A.J. Tata shows what a masterful writer he is, the storyline and twists are amazing. I have seldom read a book with such a sinister plot and so many different views of who is good and who is bad. I read it in under a day and it was hard putting it down to engage in ordinary life. If you haven't read anything by Tata yet you should really get started. I must thank St. Martin's Press , Macmillan and Edelweiss for letting me read this advance copy.
Garrett Sinclair, a third generation Army General, is in a Military Prison where he has been held for a year. After being informed that he is pending release and will be honorably retired with full pension and on his way back to his cell he is assaulted resulting in his being placed in a solitary medical unit from where he is freed by members of his team. He learns that his family is endangered and he and the team set out to learn why and to put a stop to it. This is only the start of an action packed military thriller filled with characters who lie, cheat and steel at an Academy Award level. It is action packed and filled with twists and turns. Thanks to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC for an honest review.
I read The Phalanx Code in its entirety in less than two days. This is definitely one of Tony Tata's best books, if not the best. It had more twists and turns than side road in the North Carolina mountains, which is where I read it.
After years of service General Sinclair was unjustly sent to prison. Tech billionaire Mitch Drewson arranges his escape and asks for his help. He has been developing a project to protect individuals’ personal and financial data. A rival tech magnate, Aurelius Blanc, has been sending teams of assassins to eliminate Drewson’s team. One of Drewson’s coders is Blair Campbell, the President’s daughter, who is currently being hunted. It is Sinclair’s job, along with his Dagger Team, to save Blair and bring her to Drewson’s compound, where she will be safe. Blanc has also captured Evelyn Champollion, someone who may be able to decode the Phalanx Code. Blanc’s Phalanx organization has been working against Drewson, developing data collection to enable a global security system by monitoring everyone’s electronic activity. There is a connection between Sinclair and Blanc that he is unaware of and Blanc wants him dead. Evelyn takes Sinclair to Normandy where his grandfather became a hero during WWII. It was Coop Sinclair’s actions that set in motion the events in the present.
From the opening pages, A.J. Tata gives you non-stop action. Sinclair is hesitant to trust Drewson but an appeal from the President and the threat against loved ones convinces him to cooperate. He is joined by his Dagger Team in the rescue of Blair, but Evelyn’s rescue is something that he takes on himself, releasing his men to guard Drewson’s compound and their own families. There is a huge twist that leads to a final confrontation, threatening Sinclair’s life. When you pick up The Phalanx Code make sure you have plenty of time put aside because you will not want to put this book down. I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing this book for my review.
This is the third book that I have read in Tata's Garrett Sinclair series. As in the other two books that I have read in this series, Tata's combat scenes are realistic and tightly drawn. His descriptions of the nuances of combat are as good as anyone's, and his action scenes are crisp and exciting. Tata knows how to write combat. The plot has a number of clever twists, but the high point of the book for me was the very clever and well-written ending that Tata writes using changing points of view. The ending had me on the edge of my seat, and I was glad that I completed the book, as the strong ending was the best part and made the book worth reading.
A significant weakness of The Phalanx Code is the complexity of the plot, which involves a few too many twists and turns for my liking. I found the plot twists a little too complex for me, and not as believable as the plots in Tata's other books in his Garrett Sinclair series. The family twists and backstory were a little too much for me. On the positive side, I did find the writing and the emotion in the last few chapters to be really topnotch.
If you are looking for a military thriller with a very complex plot surrounded by lots of well-written action, this book is for you. Tata is a great action writer, and I will continue to seek out more of his work in the future.
I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing an advance copy.
This exciting, propulsive thriller is Tata's best yet

The Plalanx Code: A Garrett Sinclair Novel by AJ Tata
352 Pages Publisher: St. Martin’s Press Release Date: February 27, 2024
Fiction (Adult), General Fiction (Adult), Mystery, Thriller, Military, Action, Adventure
Two technologically gifted men, one American (Drewson) and one French (Blanc), are at odds with each other. Garrett Sinclair had been in Leavenworth prison for the past year. Now he is told he is being released and honorably discharged from the army in the morning. At mealtime, a fight breaks out and Garrett is put into solitary confinement. An explosion during the night, rocks the prison, and Garrett is a free man. Drewson is behind Garrett’s release. He wants him to find and stop Blanc from taking over the internet and with that, the world.
The story is fast paced, the characters are developed, and it is written in the first person point of view. There are so many twists I still am not sure if I could tell you the good from the bad. This is the latest installment in the series and is best read in order. If you enjoy action stories, you will like this book.
The Phalanx Code is a gripping thriller that follows ex-Special Forces soldier Garrett Sinclair as he embarks on a heart-pounding adventure to uncover a deadly conspiracy. Written by A. J. Tata, a former Brigadier General in the U.S. Army, this novel seamlessly combines military expertise with intricate plotting to deliver an exhilarating read. The story unfolds with Sinclair being drawn into a high-stakes mission involving a secret organization and a terrifying plot that threatens national security. As he races against time, Sinclair must navigate through a web of deception, facing relentless adversaries and decoding cryptic clues. Tata's masterful storytelling keeps readers on the edge of their seats, with a perfect blend of action, suspense, and unexpected twists. The vivid portrayal of military tactics and the protagonist's unwavering determination make this novel an enthralling experience for anyone with a penchant for adrenaline-pumping narratives.
The Phalanx Code is the third General Garrett Sinclair novel and a continuation of the overall arc of past books. This should definitely be read as part of the series. After saving the world in the last book, Garrett has spent the last year in prison for his reward. The day before he is to be released, he’s broken out of prison and plunged into a battle between two tech moguls over the “Phalanx Code. The story twists and turns until Garrett doesn’t know who to trust and the stakes take a personal twist for Garrett. Family secrets are revealed and the danger amps up for Garrett, his family, and his unit in this latest action packed thriller that finds Garrett once again saving the day. My voluntary, unbiased, and non mandatory review is based upon a free review copy from NetGalley.
After a successful conclusion to the mission in a prior book, General Garret Sinclair is sitting in a military prison for reasons that are not clear to him. A tech billionaire engineers his escape and recruits him in a fight with another tech billionaire. But all is not what it seems and the plot twists in expected ways.
First, I did not care about the protagonist, General Sinclair. None of the characters in this book were interesting. The dialogue was pedestrian.
Second, the story has Sinclair bouncing around from one violent event after another, leading to a totally implausible ending.
General Tata outdid his previous works again! The Phalanx Code is a story that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat and brings back many favorite characters from earlier books to propel the story along. The story keeps the reader guessing as to who is good and who is bad and does a lot to establish background on Sinclair while keeping things relevant to the ongoing events of the story. I am eagerly awaiting the next story in the Garrett Sinclair saga!
From reading the pages of his grandfather’s World War II diary, the reader is catapulted into the present as Garrett Sinclair escapes from prison to rescue his team from the tech moguls who are trying to manipulate global security for technofascist purposes. As this riveting read develops, we are drawn back into Garrett’s grandfather’s past where secrets that have been dormant for almost 70 years begin to be uncovered.
I always have enjoyed A.J. Tata’s adventures with General Garrett Sinclair and this book is another winner. An all too believable plot where two tech billionaires fight for supremacy with only General Sinclair and Dagger Team to thwart the takeover attempt. Assassination squads, the President’s daughter kidnapped, and a scorecard to keep track of the double crosses this is non stop excitement from the first page. The best Sinclair yet.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this. Uncorrected digital galley.
Billionaires conspire and compete to dominate the world
I review as a first-time reader of author A. J. Tata. I arrived in the middle of a series, but understood this work as a stand-alone commentary on power, greed, family, politics, and international tensions. Most fascinating, the WWII Normandy confrontation with the Germans offers a multi-generational link to the characters and action. A plot of drama and danger includes a love story. What a trip.
A fast paced political thriller following the continued escapades of Garrett Sinclair. The General escapes from prison only to be pitted against two tech geniuses set to bring the US to its knees. Sinclair battles his own demons while trying to save those that he loves. I love the connections invoked between this modern day struggle and DDay battles at Normandy. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this thrilling read!
The Phalanx Code by A.J. Tata is the 3rd in the Sinclair Series, but the first I’ve read. I will be reading the others and more from A.J. Tata. Tata is himself an actual US General (retired), so he knows action and what is possible. The possibilities bleed over into his novels. The Phalanx Code starts out with a jail break and never slows down from there. World dominance is the goal and as all great actions thrillers, the hero has to stop it. General Sinclair and his band of merry men take on the bad guys to prevail. No surprise, but the action and dialogue kept me reading. I can say Tata’s style of writing kept me interested and wanting more. If you are looking for heroes and a writer similar to Clancy, Flynn, and Mills; you should read A.J. Tata.
Garrett Sinclair and the Dagger Team rocks! This is an action packed military themed story. It is filled with excitement from beginning to end. Garrett and his team are trying to figure out who the good guys are and who their enemies are. The plot is designed to keep the reader guessing as they keep turning the pages. It is a highly entertaining read with wonderful characters.
A.J. Tata delivers fully with The Phalanx Code. This was my first in the series to read so now I will be working diligently to read the other books in this series because this was just too great to put down!
This was a great book. I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I read it in 12 hours, which is a lot for me to do! It had everything and more laid out in the novel! I sure hope There is more to come from this author! I am totally hooked!
General Garrett Sinclair does it again with the brilliant storytelling of General Tata! I burned through this book because I couldn’t put it down. It was the typical suspenseful Tata novel with the wonderful characters of the past, but also with additional antagonists and plot twists that are superbly presented. Such a good book.
I readily confess to a bias. I have 3 favorite authors in this genre. A.J. Tata and Jack Carr are tied at the top with Brad Thor close behind. A thoroughly believable plot and an engaging tale that keeps you riveted from start to finish. General Tata is a gifted, talented writer, and I can't wait for the next steps for Garrett Sinclair.
I received this as an ARC in return for an honest review.
I really love all of the action and characters in the Garrett Sinclair books. This one follows a twisted path between two tech giants who want to rule the world. Garrett and his team have to figure out the truth and save his family.
Another excellent page turner. Looking forward to the next installment.
