*****I received this audiobook free from NetGalley and MacMillan Audio in exchange for my honest review.
I don’t think this book should be an audiobook. You really need to have it in front of you more like a workbook for each day. The ideas are good and if you put them into practice I am sure they would work.
Although I loved the Big Leap book and I like Gay Hendricks, this one didn't really work for me. The information is very repetitive and superficial. The days are very much the same. I was hoping for more.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book!
Inspirational daily meditations/affirmations. I read most of this in a couple of sittings, but definitely something on par with a daily ritual, that you could read over the course of a year, or continue to go back and read.
Thank you to the publisher for my #gifted copy ~ out now!
Obviously I have not been through the daily affirmations of this book as it would take an entire year to do it correctly and as I was provided an advanced review copy of the book -an impossibility. I was under no obligation to write a review and the opinions expressed are my own. I have skimmed and read enough to see it is an excellent resource for one to do self work and improve on inner and outer self image and how they want to interact with others. I think rather than calling out inner genius it's more calling out the 'power of positive thinking' every day and working toward being the best you can be for yourself and the world around you and 'not sweating the small stuff'. Great book for self work. Get a notebook and journal with it or get a hardcopy and write out all your thoughts in the book. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to peruse this book.
Ooo I loved this book! Every now and then I like to read an inspiring read and one that makes me challenge myself, this was definitely it. Excellent thoughts and points that really make you think. I say this is a must read by Gay Hendricks!
Your Big Leap Year A Year to Manifest Your Next-Level Life...Starting Today! by Gay Hendricks, PH.D. PUB. 13 Feb 2024
This is a great addition to the topic of mind over everything. Shifting our thoughts to build our equanimity to achieve our goals has to one of the hottest topic at the moment. Being mindful and teaching ourself to rewire our genetic or environmental wiring seems to be added to every curriculum, work place and household. Trying to cultivate the thoughts to keep the leaping going takes a great deal of effort but from personal experience and a former skeptic, it is all the way possible. Consistency and community is key. I certainly would recommend this read if you too are on a journey of renewal and self discovery.

Are you ready to make a big change in your life starting today? To reach your full potential? To be happier? Then slow your roll…Your Big Leap Year is intended to be used over the course of a full year.
Some people are not ready to implement such a major change in their thoughts quickly. Or they may not have more than about 10 minutes per day to devote to change. For those people, this book is perfect. It breaks down the author’s previous self-help book, The Big Leap, into daily tasks.
The big leap is to realize the skill you are best at, release any hidden threats to your success, and achieve your genius level. Most of the daily tasks can be done by reading a ten-minute instruction and then thinking when you have a minute or two during the day. None of these tasks are earthshakingly new. But they are presented in a logical order. I believe your life will improve if you do the 366 daily tasks listed in the book. The hardest part will be not reading ahead (at least that was my most difficult challenge).
So, you have a choice: read this book, Your Big Leap Year, and make daily improvements to your mindset, or read The Big Leap and try to make a quick change to your life. Both are valid approaches. Good luck on your journey. 4 stars.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.
I read somewhere that it is better to make resolutions in February once the new year is settling in. If that makes sense, here is a book that will encourage readers to have an exceptional year. It offers something for every day to incorporate into making for a good life.
In the introduction, Hendricks summarizes the two principles that drive this book. They are how to eliminate Upper Limit Problems (what is done when things are gong well) and how to live in, what the book refers to as, the Genius Zone.
This book is organized into what are called cycles. Within each are themes and ways to put each theme into action. Start with day one where the author asks for the reader’s commitment and then try to keep going. Hopefully, things will be learned.
Those who like self-help and motivational works may well find this title to be helpful. Hopefully, many of the entries will resonate.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this title. All opinions are my own.
-This book is beautiful. It's simple, and it shows mindfulness and simple steps to improve your life every day of the year, and we can start it at any time, so let's start it right now. And the real value here is in the simplistic, blooming beauty of it, where you can take these things and apply them to life in easy ways of increasing your mindfulness, increasing your productivity, and increasing your quality of life. And overall, they're just nice little reminders and nudges to push you in the right direction. And having little, simplistic reminders like these can be just what a person needs. And the thing I will tell you about this book is that what makes it beautiful is that it makes it so easy to just spread little bits of positivity around the world around you. And it's a very heart-filled book, so thank you.
Your Big Leap Year isn't just a guidebook—it's like having a daily motivational sidekick. Each day unfolds with a unique narrative, a specific leap to take, and an affirmation to fuel your journey. Gay Hendricks, renowned for The Big Leap, transforms larger goals into daily, manageable steps, turning this book into your personal wellspring of inspiration. It offers a call to immediate action to prevent the delay of your dreams. Spanning 366 days, accommodating leap years, this isn't your typical guide—it's your daily companion on the road to breaking through self-imposed limits and embracing extraordinary success in all areas of life. Your Big Leap Year, where each day becomes a leap toward your greatest self.
I read The Big Leap last year or so and I really loved it - it really gives you a great look at how manifestation works and how to do it. This is sort of a companion book to that one. This book is a 365 day workbook that you can start at any time of the year. Each day builds on the last to help you ;manifest your dreams. The beginning days work on just getting you in the correct mindset. Opening your mind to reach your potential and create the life you want.
I started listening to this book and found it hard to actually use it the way it is meant to be used, so I wound up buying a paperback copy. Some may find the audio book easier but for me for this type of book I needed a physical copy.
I won this book through GoodReads First Read program.
I had never read The Big Leap. I am not sure if you must have read the book but I do not doubt it helps. This book is somewhat like a daily devotional in that there are daily readings consisting of one page setting out the daily theme and then your leap for the day. I learned about ULPs (upper limit problems) and your genius zone.
After reading this for over a year my personal opinion is that it is a bunch of crap. I think people are looking for something to fill the hole in their hearts and this isn't it. Jesus is. I do not doubt that people have made this their religion and worship their leader Gay Hendricks. Not me. Sorry.
I had not read the widely popular freshman book to this one, so I went in as a blank slate. After reading this daily-devotional-style read with positive affirmations and small actions to elicit change, I have to say that I'm now interested in reading the precursor to this one!
I thought this one was delightful and easily digestible. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea as it definitely marches to the beat of it's own drum, but I liked it and I'll be ordering the physical copy as soon as I can get my hands on it!
I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This one felt very repetitive, and also the content made for a really awful audiobook. I feel like this would be much better as a daily tear off calendar. It's not really enough content to be a book, in my opinion. I'm rating it as 2 stars, because I felt a lot of it was the same thing, just reworded several times through the book. It just doesn't feel substantial enough to be a book.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
I've long admired Gay Hendricks' books, so I eagerly read YOUR BIG LEAP YEAR, expecting his unique blend of intelligent, compassionate, and inspiring work. This book delivers all of that -- and then some -- in pithy, very doable and easy steps from considering to actually changing. I pondered each day's thoughts on long walks and returned feeling clear and motivated to step into my future joy. It works -- this wise and wonderful guide is one I will recommend far and wide. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.
This is all about tiny changes adding up. Incremental moves that are easily forgotten or pushed aside can make a GIANT impact on your future. That's the message in a nutshell.
Some people may not like to move small, but then those people would also be surprised to hear that the big flashy leaps they wanted...didn't do anything because they didn't actually happen.
There's a lot of good here, so I do hope more people read it.
Solid 4.3.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
ARC. I am not finished with this yet as it is a year long process. With that in mind, I am finding that the segments are thought provoking and provide a way in which to proceed regardless of your goal. The day by day format might be a bit daunting as it is hard to gauge your progress a day at a time, and it can be easy to miss a day.
This is about how small steps can lead to big changes. Even though tiny actions might seem unimportant, they can actually make a huge difference in your life later on. Some folks prefer big moves, but those flashy leaps might not achieve much if they don't happen. Overall, it's a great read, and I hope more people give it a chance. Solid 5 stars!
A wonderful year-long companion to upgrade your experience of your life.
I loved reading this book in small increments daily for a year, after reading "The Big Leap". It was like a daily encouragement to upgrade my capability to live my best life.
