Cute short story. The illustrations are beautiful, and his "I'm the boss" apron is gorgeous! Besides, one can never have too many cookies, right? It's nice baking for yourself, but sharing something you made and enjoying it with friends, is the best!
Review by Lucy, age 6, 6/22/19 Lucy's Very First Review!!!
Mom: Who is this book about? Lucy: A Mouse. Mom: Have we ever seen this mouse before? Lucy: Yes, here (McDonalds) in their happy meals. (Mom's note: They gave away tiny copies of "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie" years back.) Mom: Tell me about this mouse and what he gets up to. Lucy: Making cookies. He has everything for cookies. Sometimes he gets tired after a little bit. He takes a nap. Mom: Does this cause problems? Lucy: Yes. The cookies get over-baked. Mom: How does the mouse feel? Lucy: He doesn't mind. He is willing to start over. He makes WAY too many cookies.
Mom: What is your favorite part of this book? Lucy: If children did this, they would get into trouble. But if they (the mouse and his friend) did it, they wouldn't get into any trouble. Mom: So you like stories about characters that make messes and do stuff without getting into trouble? Lucy: Yes, silly trouble.
Mom: Which is your favorite "If you Give a..." book? Lucy: I don't know, I haven't read all of them. So far I really like the "If you Give a Cat a Cupcake."
The Best Mouse Cookie is a really cute story for developing readers. He makes cookies, rocks out while doing it, and even burns them when he wants to take a nap. I like how it ends by saying that there is nothing wrong with sharing with a friend. You can definitely use this story to teach preschoolers about sharing and being independent. You could tie this book with an activity about sharing.
I think my favorite of these books would be the illustrations. Adorable. Simple text well illustrated. And it's nice to know that mouse does some work instead of being given everything. :-)
(Continued from if you give a mouse a cookie ofc).
~My time has arisen.~
Yes. You 100% need music to make cookies. (Maybe this is bc I definitely still have the pajammy jamin' song stuck in ma brain from Pajama Time!, but dancing is integral to any and all baking).
Look at this lil fancy mouse, being fancy, listening to some tunes, sassily dropping cookies, wearing overalls and an “I’m the boss” apron. What a inspiration.
Yeaaah get a nap lil dude.
tHERE ARE NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY COOKIES I FEEL SO VALIDATED IN THIS BOOK YOU GO LIL MOUSE, YOU GO.
(Ignore the human boy giant in the background, we don’t need him). ((I guess if you wanna share…))
Cute addition to the If you Give a Mouse a Cookie series. This was shorter than desired and did not have the same format as the normal books. That is why I give it 3 stars. It's around what I expected, but I hoped it was a little longer. It is much too short to read as a bed time story to a toddler. But she still enjoyed the mouse and we LOVE cookies in our house. My daughter especially loved the mountain of cookies that Mouse had made at the end of the story.
This gets points for the illustrations and the fact that the little one liked it; but it was very odd- it read as if it had been translated from a different language, maybe more than once, and several pages were misplaced.
Not sure whether or not to give this one star or five stars. Whenever I read it I want to bake cookies, but when I bake cookies, I eat them all and don’t share any of the best cookies with a friend.
