Prayers of the Bible: Equipping Women to Call on God in Truth

Rate this book
Prayer is our direct means of communication with God. Yet many people are unsure how to pray. Is there a specific way to do it? Any examples we can study? Just where do you go to learn about prayer?

Go to the Bible -- specifically, to the prayers in the Bible.

Susan Hunt guides women to explore prayers from the Bible, highlighting the overarching story of redemption that shapes these biblical prayers and equips us to know God's nearness and call on Him in truth. She passionately believes that only a true woman can do this -- so she lays out foundational, biblical principles of true womanhood, showing that true women are redeemed women.

Prayers of the Bible is an excellent resource for women's Bible study groups. Each prayer passage comes with an outline, questions to focus your thoughts, a prayer story, practical suggestions for prayer, and suggestions for personal reflection.

This study grew on me. The last four chapters were better than the first section. The “true woman” connections seemed forced in some of the chapters (not every passage is about Biblical womanhood). It was a difficult study to lead which was partially due to having to juggle the multiple necessary materials - study book, leader guide, handouts, Bible. I wouldn’t do this study again, but I enjoyed exploring some Biblical prayers with fellow believers!

Loved the way she demonstrated how to pray the bible by providing examples of when it was done in the bible. Spiritually refreshing!

This was a book that prayers were used to encourage and enlighten a group a woman in Mrs. Hunt’s circle of friends to dig into the trenches with Jesus and each other. They were emotion filled without apology and weaknesses displayed for all to see. It was a humbling experience to read and great to use for a small Bible Study or with others who are wrestling with a deep trouble in their life whether shared experience or not. The experiences and growth is visible on the pages of this book and make working through this book a journey not just an exercise in information. I am extremely grateful to Susan Hunt for her gift that she has so freely shared.
I would like to thank Net Galley and P & R Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

Have you ever felt stuck when trying to pray? Have you ever wondered how to pray? In this new book, Susan Hunt helps her readers get closer to God in their prayers. Many times we are just too busy to add Scripture to our prayers, but there is so much we can use; so much richness to add as we approach the throne of God. Many times women don't feel equipped to really "grab the horns of the altar." But, we shouldn't feel that way. God delights in our prayer, and this book can help get you excited about taking prayer to the next level. Come study along with Susan and reclaim the joy of talking to our heavenly Father.

This book was a great delight to read and is one I will give as gifts. It is perfect for either personal or group Bible study. I find that if my prayer life is going well, the rest of the "stuff" takes care of itself. This book offered me more ideas and I can't wait to get into a discussion group around what is inside. I received the free copy I read on my Nook through Net Galley and thank them for the opportunity!

I took my time with this one, reading just a chapter a week or so. It's dense with Biblical truth and empowers women to pray prayers from the Bible, taking Jesus' example and those of godly men and women from Scripture. Hunt brings in lots of wisdom from great theologians, and references the Westminster Shorter Catechism and Standards quite often to tie into the prayers of the Bible. One quirk though is the strange formatting the editor/publisher used. There is a jumble of different fonts, font types, and font formatting used throughout each chapter, which I suppose is there to make different points, but it's just distracting and really takes away from the gravity of what is written, instead trying to sum up different sections or the chapter into little take home bites, which kind of dumbs down the reader as though she can't make her own conclusions. And I was always taught that you never have a bullet point for only one point, so this in itself is distracting. Solid read, nice concise chapters, great for a Bible study or prayer group to go through.

I do think this was a good study of certain prayers in the Bible. In the back of one of my Bibles, I had already started a list of some prayers that left impressions on me, and the author doesn't cover them; it's not an exhaustive study of prayers in the Bible.
