Pugsley is adorable, but he didn't earn the nickname Mr. Pest for nothing and his owners decide he's too much of a handful to keep! this book is very interesting and it is a nice book and it is about a puppy dog named pugsley and he is very bad and does not listen to his owner's and he also goes to a puppy day care that a women named amanda and her niece own's her neiec works at the day care every wensday and she likes puggsley a lot but he is a very bad dog and is very misbehaved and does not listen so they call him mr. pest because he is a pest to every one even though he is a pest aunt amanda and her niece still cares for him. one day puggsleys owner came and said that puggsley will not be going to the day care anymore beacuse he is going to a sheletr because they can not handle him.. Part of the Puppy Place Series. Lizzie works at her aunts doggie day care. A very energetic pug runs the risk of being given to the local humane society if his behavior does not improve. Lizzie tries taking Pugsley on as a foster dog to see what she can do to help his behavior.
1st graders seem to love these. Ellen Miles lives in Montpelier and is open to visiting classes.
"...before he could curl up for a nap on the couch, Pugsley had to throw each and every one of the couch pillows to the floor, then pounce on each one in turn, grrr-ing and snarling, to teach them a lesson. What was the lesson? Nobody knew. Nobody but Pugsley."
I read this book aloud to my daughters. I know nothing about dogs, but my daughters are obsessed. I trust that this book might teach you good lessons for raising dogs, but not for raising kids! Pugsley misbehaves anytime he isn't getting his owners' full attention. My daughters often like to act out the characters we read about and they now think it is fun to be Pugsley and misbehave if I am not watching them like a hawk. *sigh*
This book is probably really only 3.5 stars but I’m giving it 5 for the following reasons:
1) Aunt Amanda is such a great role model for kids. She’d teach them to dream big, have fun no matter what you’re doing, be true to yourself, care for animals, etc. She’s my favorite character in terms of kid-friendliness, especially considering that the children, who are the protagonists, are kind of selfish and disobedient. They do things that affect the whole family without asking first, the nine year old girl is a know-it-all/jerk, they lack character development. So to bring in someone like Aunt Amanda in this book was a clever move by the author, differentiating Pugsley from the other books in the series.
2) Pugsley is way more realistic than the dogs in the previous books. He’s the first dog to actually be mischievous and cause problems. Sure, some of the dogs in other book did like one or two bad things, but for the most part, they were incredibly easy to care for and got adopted way quicker than believable or realistic. Pugsley was a great demonstration of what dogs are really like. The only reason the little kids who fostered him got him adopted is because of Aunt Amanda, which is both a positive and a negative. Positive is he was adopted. Negative is the kids were so reliant on Aunt Amanda the whole time, leaning on her like a crutch.
I do have more reasons, but I won’t be sharing them. I’m not one of those people who try desperately to make these reviews a painstaking length. Comment below if you have any thoughts/suggestions on my review! Thank you!

Lizzie and her younger brother, Charles, are in elementary school. They have a puppy named Buddy plus foster dogs and help them find homes.
Lizzie loves dogs and volunteers at an animal rescue. She is very excited when her aunt and uncle move to their town and open a doggy daycare, where she helps out. There are lots of dogs, big and small, young and old. Pugsley is a rambunctious pug puppy (aka Mr. Pest) who attends the daycare. He is cute but a handful and his owners eventually decide to give him up to the rescue. Knowing how overcrowded the rescue is, Lizzie offers to foster Pugsley and find him a home, which she discovers is probably going to be an impossible task.
Though this book is a quick read and directed at elementary-aged children, I found it entertaining. There is a learning experience and a puppy tip at the end. It is written in third person perspective and first person from the dogs' points of view. It is the ninth in the Puppy Place series, which currently has 64 books in the series, and works as a stand alone.
This was the first chapter book I read as a kid. I remember being behind in reading, I just wasn’t interested in books, especially if there weren’t pictures. One day my Auntie bought me this book, she read the first chapter to me and I was immediately hooked. She then told me that if I wanted to know what happened next, I would need to read the rest of the book by myself.
I became obsessed with this series as a little kid. Really, this is the book that made me love reading. I went from never reading, to reading non-stop. Now as an adult, I still love reading (and writing as well). This series also taught me about what foster families are and how they can make a big difference. As a result, I want to become a foster parent one day. And it’s a dream that all started because of this book as a kid.
So TLDR, if your kid is struggling to learn to read, or just looking for a new series. Definitely give this one a go! I highly recommend it.
I’m planning to buy some books from the Authors other series “Kitty Corner” for my niece who has been struggling with reading. It’s basically the same storyline, but with cats instead of dogs.
A puppy place “Pugsley’’ Lizzie wanted to go to camp Browser for a weekend but she needed a puppy first. A puppy named Pugsley also known as Mr. Pest was a naughty puppy and never followed the rules. After his owner said Pugsley needed a new home so Lizzie decided to foster him until he could find a forever home. So Lizzie trained Pugsley as much as she could. Then she went to the camp with the pug, after Lizzie’s aunt took him as her own. The life lesson I learned was even if your a pest like Pugsley you can still be loved. Pugsley would always steal all the other toys from the dogs. Lizzie had to train him not to be naughty but she still loved. Mr. Pest never listen to anybody he just did his own thing. Lizzie and her family still loved him just the way he is. I loved all of it except when the author didn't put much detail into it. My favorite part was when Lizzie’s aunt adopted Pugsley into her family. I also didn’t like that the book did not mention Lizzie’s family very much.
This was just adorable, I love pugs very much(they are my favorite dogs), and I love reading about fostering puppies, especially Pugsly. He gets into lots of trouble but everyone around him loves his joy. I wish I could be the one who had adopted him!
I did like this book I have never read the puppy place books before and I did really like it! I am going to read the book Maggie and Maxine of the other books from the series. I give this book a 3/5.
Great story for kids and grandkids to teach them about the love and work involved with training a puppy. It might help them understand why you say no they cannot have a pet at this time. Puppies without training can be mischievous and get into trouble. This story shows that.
this was my favorite book as a kid. I still have the physical copy! it's a bit damaged, theres a hole in the front cover and I remember my dog tried to eat it. But it belongs to my neices now and I cant wiat for them to be able to read it
I love this book because the dogs name is pugsley and I have a dog named pugsley. This book would be perfect for 5th graders who enjoy a dog named pugsley. If you liked the Hunger Games series then you'll love this book because it has dogs and it has a lot of love and care. In the end they give pugsley to the owner of the doggie daycare.

it was good it was about Charles and Lizzie Peterson love puppies. Their family fosters these young dogs, giving them love and proper care, until they can find the perfect forever home.
