Spot Stays Overnight is a lift the flap book for young children, about Spot the Dog who goes to stay at his friends house overnight. He packs his bag full of stuff and goes to play with his friend Steve the monkey whom he is staying the night with. Spot's friend notices Spots mum coming with a bag for him. When Steve asks Spot what is in the bag he gets shy and replies nothing, under the flap we find out that Spot's mum brought him his teddy. This is a nice story as it is aimed at young children who may stil use teddies. The lift the flap aspect of the story gets children really engaged and enthusiastic about reading it. Spot books have proved to be much loved by children and this is another which is no exception. The big and bold writing make it an ideal book to use for children who have just started to read and the beautiful pictures help explain the story to those who cannot read.
Tätäkin Puppe-kirjaa meillä on luettu kesän aikana ahkerasti, sillä lapsi pitää kovasti luukkukirjoista.
My tiny human generally loves lift-the-flap books, but this one just didn't click for some reason. We only read it once or twice before returning to the library.
Spot Sleeps Over is a book about a puppy named Spot. Spot is playing with his friend Steve, who is a monkey. Spot asks his mom, Sally, if he can sleepover at Steve's house, next door. They go to Spot's house to get the things that Spot needs to sleep over. Once at Steve's, Spot sees Steve's new slide in the backyard. They play on the slide and on the tire swing. Then Sally brings a bag over to Spot. Steve's mom calls the boys inside for bedtime. When they are in bed, Steve asks Spot what was in the bag, and Spot responds, "Oh, nothing". The thing in the bag was Spot's teddy bear. I think that the general age range of this book is nursery because this is a lift-the-flap book and some publications are board books. The artistic elements of this book are simple yet detailed. The colors used in this book are very bright. There are some warm colors and cool colors. The pictures do not look like they were painted. The lines are very simple. I recommend this book because I think that young children could relate to this book especially if they have ever spent the night at a friend's or relative's house. I also think that they will find the flaps to be fun and entertaining. I read the Spot books when I was little and still love them today!
Spot is going to sleep over at his monkey-friend Steve's house. An engaging lift the flap book that toddlers should enjoy. The ending is quite sweet (Spot's mother brings him something he forgot) and children may enjoy thinking about and looking forward to sleepovers themselves some day.
Spot Sleeps Over is a great beginner book for young readers. The sentences are short and easy to read. I could use this book in a preschool classroom, or Kindergarten classroom. I don't think I would use this in a lesson, it's just a cute children's book.
