This book covers all the topics specified by Microsoft in its published guidelines for the SQL Server test--indeed, Microsoft has even approved the book's contents. The book's material mixes explanatory prose with stepped procedures. In a typical section, it describes the purpose of a particular feature, outlines its operation in a typical scenario, and presents one or more procedures that show exactly how to carry out tasks related to the feature. Where it's appropriate, option tables and conceptual diagrams are included.
Each chapter concludes with a very brief summary, followed by more stepped procedures and some multiple-choice questions like those featured on the exam. Best of all, an annotated answer key follows the questions--readers get an explanation of how the authors arrived at the correct answer, which should help them improve their understanding of the subject. --David Wall
