Hello, hello, hello! Meet frenetically helpful Squirrel and his patient animal friends in four funny, engaging stories for the early chapter-book crowd.
Squirrel is a very, very, very good helper! He helps his tree grow, he helps the river flow, and he helps his three best friends, Mouse, Turtle, and Rabbit. He is such a good helper, in fact, that he helps his friends when they don’t even know they need help! It is a lot of work being such a caring squirrel, but there is much to do before sleep, sleep, sleep time. Prepare to fall in love with the utterly endearing — and undeniably exhausting — Squirrel in this sweet and funny chapter book from author Lisa Moser and illustrator Valeri Gorbachev.
Lisa Moser grew up in the small town of Fairfield, Iowa. "I had a wonderful childhood," says Lisa. "I lived in a neighborhood where lemonade stands were a day's event, the boundaries for hide-and-go-seek were the entire block, and you knew it was time to come home when the streetlights came on."
About this time, Lisa was inspired by her grandma to become a writer. "My grandma and grandpa lived in Florida, and we would write letters every week. But on some golden days, some treasure days, I would go to the mailbox and find a story from my grandma. She'd write the stories, draw the pictures, and bind them up with bright yarn. Reading those stories, my own dream of becoming a children's author began."
Lisa went on to attend The University of Iowa and graduated with a degree in elementary education. After getting married, she moved to Worthington, Ohio where she happily taught reading, writing, and other subjects to fifth graders. Lisa is proud to say that she was never beaten in a footrace by any of her students, although she only raced them once. Wisely, she retired a champion.
When Lisa and her husband moved to Wisconsin and had their daughter, Lydia, Lisa became a stay-at-home mom and pursued her childhood dream of writing.
This is a cute book. I like the illustrations. It is sort of a beginning reader, but has smaller type font and fewer pages than most beginning readers. A good crossover silly story for reading aloud together. Squirrel has a hard time making friends due to his over exuberance, but he is all heart and in the end finds a way to be a real friend to turtle and rabbit.
I kept being reminded of Over the Hedge and the crazy squirrel on caffeine. I couldn't help but read anything squirrel said at a much faster pace than the other animal characters. The little chapters were cute and my toddler seemed to enjoy the energetic character.
Squirrel's World is a very good book because it is so funny! Squirrel is an exciting character because he has a lot of energy. He is hyper! Chapter one was about Squirrel always trying to be helpful. In this chapter Squirrel is helping Mouse gather food but gathers too much for a small mouse. Chapter two was about how Squirrel wanted to play a game with Turtle. Turtle was too slow and Squirrel was too fast until they played Hide and Seek. It was perfect because Turtle could hide and fall asleep. Squirrel could run around trying to find Turtle. Chapter three was about Squirrel helping Rabbit get a lily pad from a pond. Rabbit wanted the leaf to use it as an umbrella. He does not like to get wet. Squirrel got Rabbit wet two times when he tried to get the leaf with a stick. Rabbit fell off a log into the water. Finally, in Chapter four Squirrel went to see all of his friends to say good night. He woke up Mouse. He tried to help Tutle go to sleep. Turtle slept all day so he was not tired. Squirrel gave Rabbit a firefly because he was scared of the dark. I loved this book. It was fantastic. I learned that it can be fun to help friends.
Squirrel wants to help his friends, Mouse, Turtle, and Rabbit. Squirrel wants to help his friends, even when they don’t ask for it. Squirrel is positive, caring, energetic, and helpful. After he helped all of his friends during the day and it was time for bed he realized he forgot to say goodnight to them. He goes back to each of his friends to say goodnight. This book would be great as a transitional chapter book or a read aloud. Throughout the book squirrel repeats words 3 times in a row. The illustrations are inviting and funny. This book could be used as a play for students to act out. Students could research forest animals and continue to write how squirrel would help them.
This book is described as an "early chapter book", but it can't seem to make its mind up as to what it is. Squirrel with his habit of repeating words "hello, hello, hello", "got to go, got to go, got to go" reminds me of a Dick and Jane reader, yet the vocabulary is more like that of an older child's book or a complicated picture book. And the storylines read like something out of "Frog and Toad".
I'm sure this book will be enjoyed by those who read it, but I'm not sure if it will find its intended audience. Bbecause I'm not sure who the intended audience is...
Squirrel is full of energy and cheer as he sets out to go, go, go help his friends Mouse, Turtle, and Rabbit. Lucky for them Squirrel is there to help Mouse gather food, Turtle to think of an exciting game, and Rabbit to retrieve a stranded leaf. Squirrel’s help is not at all what his friends wished for, but they find it hard to say no to their caring friend. Although Squirrel tires his friends from all of his "help," young readers will not tire of seeing Squirrel zip about showing others that he is a good, good, good friend!
I think this book is fantastic, because its about a squirrel that helps 3 of his frinds, the names of his frinds are mice, tirtel, raddit. He helps mice to colect corn, and tirtelto play with him,and he helped raddit pick a lile pad so he wod'nt get wet.At the end he gose and say good night to mice, tirteland rabbit. The genre of this book is fiction because the squirrel, mice, tirtel and rabbitcan't talk .I wonder wy dose squirrel help his frinds?.I want to remember this book because it talks about a squirrel trying to help his friends.
Squirrel is eager and energetic as the day begins. Today he decides to help three of his friends. He helps mouse get food, plays hide and seek with turtle and helps rabbit overcome his fear. Squirrel and his friends then end the day with an energetic good night.
A easy chapter book for the beginner chapter readers. The book is fun and paced well as young readers are learning new words.

Squirrel has more energy than a toddler hopped up on Twinkies and Coca-Cola. He really, REALLY wants to help his friends, but sometimes he goes a little too far. Surprisingly, when sleepy-time rolls around, Squirrel proves to be a true helper.
This is a joyous and gentle story of Squirrel whose enthusiasm sometimes brings a bit of headache for his friends -- but you can see that they all still really enjoy his friendship. The language is simple but full of energetic rhythm. Children will recognize themselves or a friend or two in Squirrel and the soft toned illustrations evoke the sense of coziness and comfort. Really wonderful.
I love this book! It's hard to tell if it is a reader or a bigging chapter book but I would lean towards having it as a reader. Squirrel has so much energy that he is always running around, repeating things three times, and trying to help his friends but causing more trouble then actually helping. This is one of the funniest readers I've read in a while.
Squirrel, squirrel, squirrel! He's a funny, funny, funny little critter! In all of his rushing around and wanting to help, squirrel manages to mess things up for Mouse, Turtle, and Rabbit, though he never even seems to notice. And he's so darn cute the whole time, nobody can stand to tell him off.
Clever little book, perfect for newly-independent readers.
Ridiculously cute book about a hyper-active squirrel who just has to do everything. He meets with his friends Mouse, Turtle and Rabbit and meddles in their lives. But he means well and in the end, they are all appreciative of having a thoughtful friend like Squirrel.
Really? I have to promote this as one of the "best" books next year? A bit of a grin at the story with the squirrel and turtle playing Hide-and-Go-Seek. And that's at best.
If you're in the mood for a talking animal story Avi's The End of the Beginning is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better. At least in my humble opinion.
