Someone handed these to me to borrow and thought I should read it and the accompanying study guide. Well, I did, and overall the information seems straightforward enough. As with most apologetics materials, I found it assumed certain opponents in ways that don't really resonate with me most of the time, and often the arguments are based on certain assumptions that end up leading whoever wrote them in directions that wouldn't really be relevant to what might persuade someone to agree with the argument. This might be due to that writer encountering different people than I have, but sometimes there are some interesting jumps to certain conclusions.
Overall, it was generally consistent internally and also pointed out in some cases that protestants don't have any valid refutations for some Mormon beliefs, which was amusing to see in a clearly Catholic work.
This a an awesome overview of the 'why' of Catholic teachings. It gives the reader clear examples from Scripture and historical writings. If you want to understand why Catholics believe what they believe this short booklet would be a great place to start!
This is a specific review of book one in a series of Catholic apologetic books that help in answering questions about the Catholic Faith but will also serve as a review for the whole series. This first one covers a variety of topics such as the canon of Authority, the Blessed Mother, the canon of Scripture, etc. It is an excellent starting off point and while designed to help Catholics defend the Faith could be very useful for any non Catholic that is interested in learning. Other books in the series are focused and go into more detail on such topics as the Eucharist, Morality, dialoguing with non Catholics, etc. The whole series could be used as a valuable teaching resource for those inquiring about the Catholic Faith.
