Illus. in full color. Scared of dogs, vacuum cleaners, and even mice, a faint-hearted feline has a chance to prove himself a hero when a baby mouse gets lost from its parents.
So cute how, in early reader land, any problem a character has? This can be solved COMPLETELY in just 32 pages. This time, Tiger (a cat) has fears. But by the end of the story, he doesn't have them any longer.
* On the positive side, this book has easy words.
* It uses the familiar stereotype of a "Scaredly Cat."
* When Tiger rescues the crying baby mouse, this is a big cliche too. Ever notice the trope that it fixes everything for someone to rescue another person who's even more pitiful.

Early readers DO need cliches. They're stocking up on this basics. Therefore, this book can help them just fine.
So FIVE STARS, based on the likely reactions of intended readers.
When I was a kid, my mom read this book to my brother and I, as kids we loved it. I got this book at a garage sale for only $0.25. I read it to my 2nd graders and they thought it was good. I, however, loved it.
This says it's a level 2 book but it's a very basic level 2 so would be perfect for merging into level 2 reading for beginning readers. Or is a sweet book to read ouloud to a young listener as I did with my 3 year old granddaughter. She and I both really liked this book from the storyline to the illustrations. Tiger is scared of everything around him, including mice. But after he sares some mice and a baby cries because he's separated from his parents Tiger finds his courage and overcomes his fears to rescue the baby back to his parents. And he feels so proud of himself at the end.
This book would be great for kindergarten students and possibly 1st graders. This story has basic vocabulary and sight words, short sentences, and is a very simple read. The illustrations go very well with the text on each page.
Tiger the Scaredy Cat Tiger the Scaredy Cat by John Phillips, is a book about how Tiger thinks that he is big and bold but he is scared of many things. But when a mouse that he is afraid of is in need of help he knows what to do. Even if it means facing his worst fears.
Tiger is scared of dogs. Tiger is scared of trucks. Tiger is even scared of mice. What a scaredy cat! Will Tiger ever learn to be brave? Find out in this funny story.
The kitty is afraid of everything it seems. That is until his mettle is tested and he rises to the occasion to save the life a frightened mouse. It just goes to show. Not bad for an early reader.
Loved this! Tiger is afraid of a lot of things, but learns he can face his fears in order to help someone in need. Great for early reading practice; my first grader was able to read most of the words herself.
