Although somewhat involuntary, I was part of this now. My confrontation fanned the flames of Julian’s obsession, making him more determined than ever to have Chansey. Consequences battled within me and my heart spoke against my mind’s better judgement. “Maybe I should drive you back and forth to work for a while, just until he backs off.”
She looked appreciative, but didn’t intend on taking my offer. “I can’t ask you to do that, it’s too much for you to take on.”
I didn’t intend for her to not take my offer. “You didn’t ask. I offered and I insist.”
Relief flooded her face. Then, she surprised me by stepping forward and put her arms around me. She placed her head against my chest, leaving me without an option and I returned the embrace by placing my arms around her. I lowered my face to her hair and inhaled deeply, taking in the scent of lavender and vanilla. I dropped my face closer to her shoulder and smelled the lingering fragrance of jasmine, cherry blossom and peach, mixed with a slight release of salty perspiration due to the combination of heat and anxiety.
The monster, deep within me, unexpectedly resurfaced. He no longer laid dormant as he screamed in agony, begging to be set upon this innocent creature. He pleaded with me for one taste. Didn’t he deserve it? It has been so long.
One scent of her blood essence would surely send me over the edge, giving the awakened one the upper hand as he urged me to side with him. I braced myself for the battle against the leech within me and begged him to leave me in peace.
I held my breath and didn’t move a muscle, for fear the beast might interpret any sudden movement as permission to strike. When I could no longer hold my breath, I exhaled, then inhaled slowly and shallowly. I waited for her fragrance to signal my defeat, giving the leech the permission to strike.
I readied myself to charge against this inner beast when her aromatic essence penetrated my line of defense. When her aroma registered in my brain, I waited to see what my level of temptation would be. The beast received the verdict first and my battle was won as he retreated.
I was intrigued by Chansey’s unexpected essence. It wasn’t unappealing, yet not enticing either. It was neutral and I was spellbound.
She lifted her head from my chest and leaned back to see my face. “I don’t know what to say or how to thank you.”
She raised up onto her tiptoes and planted a kiss on my cheek before she released her hold of me. I reluctantly released my hold, as well, but I wasn’t finished exploring this. I wanted more, I needed more.
We both knew we had just shared a significant moment, although neither of us voiced it.
“I’m sure you’re exhausted. You should get a good night’s rest,” I said, verbally encouraging her to go to bed, but inside begging her stay.
I regretfully watched her walk up the steps to the backdoor. Before entering, she turned and said, “Thank you again, Curry. You’re a real life saver.”
The paradox of her words brought a smile to my face. She saw a life saver in a skilled killer and I was tantalized by the mystery of her. July 20, 2012Although I don’t think it would be fair for me to give a rated review of this book for the significant reason stated below, I don’t think it’s unfair to let readers know that I certainly can’t call it a fresh or original take on vampires either, as some reviewers have, and this is why:
This (September 2011 published) story of a conflicted and self-despising French (in this case French-American, since born in New Orleans) vampire who has difficulty achieving his “second death” (what at least one author might call “full death”) in which his soul passes on to heaven, who doesn’t desire sexual relationships with mortals but who is tantalized by a mysterious human girl who turns out to be his celestially-made (not angelic per se, but close) soulmate (here, Agápe) who makes him feel more human than he did when human, who inspires in him very unfamiliar physical feelings, and with whom he apparently shares a relationship deeper than that of a wife sounds frightfully similar to a (May 2010 published) novel I’m very, very familiar (one might even suggest personally acquainted) with, although, despite some lines that seem not terribly far short of verbatim in their resemblance to said familiar novel, this version comes across like it could have been written by someone who read, but didn’t really understand (or maybe didn’t agree with), the original. The author’s assertion that the soulmate’s relationship with the vampire is like Christ’s (sacrificial) love for man is not the only seemingly telling allusion besides those above and, though its strange mix of Judeo-Christian ideas with polytheistic religion/mythology gives it an unusual and difficult to comprehend slant, there are still a disturbing number of similarities between this novel and the earlier published one: the vampire’s unusual feelings for the human girl/soulmate, the girl having dreamed of him as a child and her ability to sense his presence, her family dying in a car accident, a vampire brother (only vampirically, rather than literally so, in the other book of which I speak) who is a possible threat to the soulmate, scenes of one person sharing memories with another through touch, etc.
While it’s certainly not impossible that two authors might have a similar overall idea, the specific nature of a number of different similarities, combined with some of the wording, makes this type of coincidental resemblance between two books a little harder to imagine, especially when there are a couple of story elements that also seem to have been closely inspired by yet another, much more famous, vampire book, namely Twilight. Amazing coincidence or not, I have no way of knowing, but it is certainly interesting to note that reviewers of another of this author's books, Going Under, said it was "just like" a 2008 novel called Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles. So, though they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, it doesn’t really seem that way when a novel is presented as having a whole new concept about vampires, yet sounds strikingly similar to a novel you wrote 15 years ago and had published a year and a half before this one, especially when another book by the same author coincidentally resembles a previously published book.
Because I don’t want this to come across as one writer trying to do any kind of underhanded, stealth self-promo for her own books or for it to seem that I may be being overly-sensitive on what is already the hazy line between somewhat similar ideas in fiction and what are called “substantial similarities,” I haven’t mentioned the name of my own books, but I will include those, as well as some examples of where the similarities, for me, seem either too close or there are too many of them for coincidence, but will put these things under a “spoiler” warning, so readers can choose or choose not to see the name of the other book, compare the similarities and decide for themselves on the subject of coincidence.

I have to say that I think Ms. Cates has really done a great job at giving the vampire genre' a new angle. This book was good in that you got some intersting history behind the vampires plus a sweet romance. I loved Chancey, she was so great for Curry. She had just enough attitude to bring him out of his shell, but she wasn't over the top. Really, really great book. Don't miss this one!

This is the first book in a series that I will not be continuing because I couldn't even get through the first half.
There. I said it and yes, you read correctly. I am writing a review for a book that was, in my opinion, so terrible that I will never find out how Curry eludes his maker Marsala. I won't ever find out how the doomed romance between him and Chansey resolves. I'll never get a chance to figure out what being an Agape really means to any of them.
And what's worse? I don't care to. For the first time in my brief history as a book reviewer I'm throwing out the golden rule of bracketing every critique in two compliments. It just isn't possible for me this time. In fact, I almost didn't review Blood of Anteros because after looking at all the glowing reviews for this series, some even written by other reviewers that I follow and trust, there is a small part of me that believes that maybe, just maybe, I'm the outlier - and it's my opinion that stinks... not this book. But after further consideration I truly feel like this one needs to avoided. But why? I'll give you three reasons:
1. Curry is a vampire. A vampire who can walk in the daylight because of some strange elliptical happening. Which is all well and good but once you get reading he'll say things like he can't eat real food, making a big excuse to avoid going down to breakfast because he doesn't want his non-food-eating self revealed. But then a chapter or two later he'll be scarfing breakfast with the same group of people.
2. Even by the halfway point I still got the sense that the author was still trying to figure out the point and overall, vampire element felt like it was jammed into the story.
3. Lastly, the editing is terrible! This in and of itself makes it really, really, difficult to read because I constantly found myself trying to make sense of a misused (or totally missing) word or poorly punctuated sentence.
To everyone who loves these books I'm sorry for the hard lined review. To everyone else, read at your own risk!

This is the first book I've read by this author and overall I enjoyed it. It did have a more adult Twilight feel to it but with more depth to the characters and their actions. I'll definitely check out the next book in the series.

This story was so cute! I would have liked some of the more dramatic moments to be more... graphic and not just implied? But for as fast a read as this was it was a great story.

This was an interesting twist on a vampire tale. Vampires who have a God chosen soul mate who will return that vampire's humanity while being the vampires biggest weakness. An awesome premise and to have this story introduced by a vampire who hates what he is was a perfect start to the Vampire Agape series.
Curry Brennan was turned against his will by a sadistic woman who wanted nothing more than to own him. Own him she did for 139 years until one fateful eclipse released Curry from their bond. Curry is an introverted man who has done his best to keep to himself for most of his existence. But when he finds himself renting an apartment from the family that now owns the home he built in Mississippi, he can't help but be drawn in by their Southern hospitality and their granddaughter, Chansey Leclaire. Curry knows nothing about agapes or their special meaning to a vampire when he fights the draw to Chansey, but he soon finds out that the will of the Gods is much more than any mere mortal or vampire can fight.
What makes this a great story is the fact that it's told in Curry's point of view. He's a man..err vampire, who truly hates what he is and that hatred has shaped who he is. While he claims to have accepted what he is, you can tell that he really hasn't and that makes his choices when it comes to Chansey heartbreaking.
I'm not very fond of the ending to this story as it leaves you hanging for the next book. It was kind of like being privy to a conversation and suddenly having the door slammed in your face. But I won't hold that against the book, because I did enjoy it and will cross my fingers that Georgia Cates has something wonderful in store for us in the next installment to this series that gives us the continuation of Curry and Chansey's story.

Blood of Anteros is was wonderfully different take on vampires. The novel is told from vampire, Curry's point-of-view. He is created against his will by an evil vampire, Marsala, and basically kept as her slave. In 1989, during an eclipse, he decides to end his life and walk into the sun, effectively committing himself to the "Second Death." Upon the exposure of the sun he feels his life change and instead of burning to death as vampires tend to do when standing in sunlight, he feels his bond break with Marsala and he is able to escape her clutches into the light of the day. He meets up with Solomon, another vampire, and Solomon becomes Curry's mentor since Marsala had pretty much kept him the dark about everything. Curry then finds himself answering a "Renter Wanted" ad at the home he build over 150 years ago and discovers that the owners' granddaughter, a very human girl named Chansey, and he share a special bond. A bond that causes love and pain and puts Chansey's existence into danger.
I enjoyed this non-typical vampire book. Some of the dialogue was a bit choppy, however it didn't detract from the plot or the ideas that the author was trying to convey. Curry is every bit the protector you would expect from a man in love; human or not-so-much. He's old fashioned in some of his views, of which some of those views cause problems with Chansey while others are very sweet and wholesome. The ending isn't what I would call a cliff hanger but not all the questions/problems/issues are resolved. I can't wait for Book #2.

I read this book based on a rec from a Goodreads reader... glad I did.Ü I am really enjoying these indie authors and their creative ideas on paranormal romance. Blood of Anteros was an enjoyable read. I wasn't so sure about it the first few chapters in, but then all of a sudden there was a spark of energy in the writing and I couldn't put it down. I loved reading the story from Curry's POV-we usually get the "human" perspective and I loved having the perspective of the vampire himself. Near the end, when we were introduced to Sully, I felt like there was too much dialogue and the introduction seemed forced- Cates had such beautiful descriptions and character development up until then. I would have liked to see more emotion behind Curry and Sully's reunion. However, this was a very small section of the book and it would not deter me from rec to readers out there. Of course we were left with a small cliffy (just some unfinished business) and I eagerly await the next book in this series.Ü

Writing a first book for a series has got to be hard. I've seen it done well and I've seen it done poorly. This was a plot and romance driven book that left the world building for exposition after the fact. Having characters discuss the action that just happened and why it happened after seemed like a weird play by play after the fact. I still liked this book and will probably continue with the series. The side characters that were introduced, and will become main characters in their own books, were compelling. I swear I was getting a whiff of Vampire the Masquerade lore.
I recommend this for readers of vampire/witch romance that want a series that plays to the tropes and is different enough to stand on it's own.

This was ok, and maybe the rest of the series gets better, but to be honest it felt dull. I didn't feel the love that was supposed to be between the MCs. It didn't feel desperate or "needy" and maybe that's why I didn't connect with the story.

I was really surprised by the opening passages of this novel. The cover is just so fantastically beautiful that I had in my mind a form that I thought this book would take, but I was completely wrong. The beginning of this novel is so intriguing and right from the onset the author is setting you up for something big to happen later in the novel. The first chapter was just so mysterious, I couldn't stop reading and the writing of this book is absolutely mesmerising.
I never really understood it when characters in books talked of people (vampires) looking young but seemingly wise beyond their years until now. Curry is a young man but something about him makes it seem like he's a lot older than that. The book is written from his perspective so we are hearing the thoughts of a vampire who's over one hundred years old and it's really strange because usually we read a book through the experiences of the human. I was really surprised by the fact that this book was written from the male perspective. Most of the paranormal romances I've read have been from a woman's perspective, in fact, I don't think I've ever read a paranormal romance from the male POV. This was really interesting and refreshing because it meant that immediately it was different from all the others and it was the female character that was the intriguing one.
I liked that even though this is a 'paranormal romance', the paranormal aspect wasn't that overbearing. In fact, at times I completely forgot that Curry was even a vampire. This was unusual for me because in most of the other vampire books I've read, the fact that the characters were vampires was an extremely prominent feature that the author sort of forced upon you at every turn, but this was different. The paranormal elements are quite subtle and this made the whole plot seem more realistic, something that is quite hard to do when you're talking about the supernatural in this day and age.
I've read too many books recently where the characters fall in love instantaneously and frankly I was starting to get a little bored of romances. Blood of Anteros; however, has broken that streak because the relationship between the two main characters, Curry and Chansey, actually develops. There is a real build up throughout the novel and the story unfolds slowly and carefully, keeping you interested throughout the whole novel.
I tried to read this book at my normal pace but for some reason I just couldn't. I had to read every single word, slowly and carefully because I didn't want to miss a single detail. This slowness isn't a bad thing, it just meant that I was caught under this book's spell and it wanted me to read every single letter and it was impossible for me to even try to speed up. I found it kind of annoying that the book had that sort of power over me and it was really strange because I've never really encountered a book that set out a pace that I couldn't break.
I thought this would be just like those other vampire books popping up all over the place, but it really wasn't and for that I am so glad. This book is absolutely gripping and I would highly recommend it to all fans of paranormal romance.

I never really understood it when characters in books talked of people (vampires) looking young but seemingly wise beyond their years until now. Curry is a young man but something about him makes it seem like he's a lot older than that. The book is written from his perspective so we are hearing the thoughts of a vampire who's over one hundred years old and it's really strange because usually we read a book through the experiences of the human. I was really surprised by the fact that this book was written from the male perspective. Most of the paranormal romances I've read have been from a woman's perspective, in fact, I don't think I've ever read a paranormal romance from the male POV. This was really interesting and refreshing because it meant that immediately it was different from all the others and it was the female character that was the intriguing one.
I liked that even though this is a 'paranormal romance', the paranormal aspect wasn't that overbearing. In fact, at times I completely forgot that Curry was even a vampire. This was unusual for me because in most of the other vampire books I've read, the fact that the characters were vampires was an extremely prominent feature that the author sort of forced upon you at every turn, but this was different. First Thoughts:
I decided to jump on this blog tour because the title just caught my eye as soon as I saw it! Then I read what the book was about and I just knew I had to read it. Its about vampires, and sure I been getting a little sick of them lately, but this sounded like a different spin on things so I wanted to see how it played out.
The Main Character:
Chansey… first, I would like to say that I love that name! She was also a pretty awesome girl. She definitely has been through a lot, with her parents being gone, and her psycho neighbor, but she still had a pretty good head on her shoulders and just took everything in stride.
Love is in the Air:
Curry Brennan… he was perfect book bf material! He was hot (obviously) but he was also super sweet! He didn’t understand what was happening to him, but he knew that he had to protect Chancey as soon as he laid eyes on her. It was also super cute to see him so overwelmhed by the feelings she invoked in him, the author was able to do such a fantastic job of portraying that.
Ending:
AWESOME ending! Was there a cliffhanger? Sure of course there was… but there always is in a great series. The reason this book had such an awesome ending is because we have learned so much… but we are left wanting to learn more… I have fallen in love with all the characters… and I want to hear there stories and how they fit into everything I think I have figured out.

Well, considering I wanted to read this book because the cover was so pretty… I was super surprised at how much I fell in love with it. Today's review is on Blood of Anteros by Georgia Cates
Sometimes the best things come in the smallest; or in this case, inexpensive packages. The for small cost of just $.99, the Blood of Anteros takes the reader on a fantastic journey.
Curry Brennan was turned into a vampire against his will over 160 years ago. The woman/vampire responsible; Marsala, turned him, claimed him, and as far as he is concerned took everything away from him. When she decides to take him and the two other vampires she claims to watch the solar eclipse he decides to take things into his own hands. He decides to face the "true death" by remaining in the sun when the eclipse ends. Saying a brief prayer just before the sun comes back out he is shocked to find that not only is he still "alive", but he is able to withstand the suns rays.
Twenty-One years later he finds himself back at the home that he had built in his human youth. Though it is now home to an elderly human couple, he does not fear that he will want their blood. After all, he has had the help of his mentor to "train" him. It's only when he is informed that the couples granddaughter will also be living in the house does he have cause for alarm. That is until he meets her.
Chansey captures Curry's heart from the moment he first meets her. Just her scent is enough to excite him, and it's not the scent of her blood. Unknown to either of them, they are meant to be together.
Chansey was born on the same day of the solar eclipse, and though she has her human parents' DNA she also has the blood of the god Anteros running through her veins. After finding out that she is his Agape, Curry decides that the only way to keep her safe from Marsala is to end their growing love affair and protect her from the shadows. There are other dangers out there though which prevent him from maintaining that distance. When things finally seem to be coming together in their favor however, Curry's younger brother shows up and throws a huge monkey wrench into the mix.
Finding new and inventive ways to tell a vampire love story is not an easy task. Cates has been able to do just that in spades. Being told from the point of view of Curry is just one of those ways. You'll have to read the book to find the others.

Let me begin by saying I am a huge Georgia Cates fan. I absolutely fell in love with her contemporary romance, Going Under, and decided to read Blood of Anteros, her paranormal romance, and true to form, Georgia did not disappoint in delivering an outstanding story. Curry Brennan is a vampire, and he is not very happy about it. Taken and turned against his will, he has been held captive by his evil sire Marsla for over 100 years. After years of bondage a supernatural event takes place that frees him from his bonds. He meets a new mentor, who helps him learn a new way of life, a life that enables him not to give in to the monster inside himself. Twenty-one years after this event, he returns to his family home and there meets Chansey Leclaire. Try as he may, he can't stay away from her. Fate and the gods have other plans for both Curry and Chansey, but will the choice between mortality and immortality as what Curry believes is a monster be more than he can bear, or will he finally embrace his Agape and the fate the Gods have ordained?
I loved this story. It is told from Curry's point of view. I love the historical feel mixed with the modern romance. Yes, this is vampire story, but it is also a wonderful romance, with some mythology in the mix. I absolutely adored Curry. I felt so bad for what he had to go through, and also wanted him to experience love and joy, and he's so hot, even though he doesn't realize it. I loved the way he desired to protect Chansey and how he was willing to sacrifice anything and everything because of his love for her. I really liked Chansey also. She is fun, very strong-willed, and very passionate in her beliefs. She knows what she wants and she knows what she was created for, and she embraces that. I especially like Solomn. He brought quite a bit of humor to the story. All the characters were so interesting and enjoyable to get to know. I love the way the story progressed and the plot was great. I enjoyed Georgia's perspective on vampires in general and found it quite refreshing. I especially liked the way the book ended. It is the first in a series, but it ended well, leaving you satisfied, yet still wanting more. This is a great book and if you enjoy vampires stories and paranormal romance, this is book you should check out.

Curry Brennan has been bonded to Marsala, the vampire who changed him for 161 years. He has always seen himself as a monster and has hated Marsala since his brother brought her into their life. Now, on the day of the solar eclipse, in 1989, Curry has a chance to release himself from his bond and miserable existence. However, instead of burning in the sunlight, Curry seems immune and takes a chance to simply escape from Marsala's grip. Curry finds himself a mentor and eventually finds a room to rent in the house he once built. Curry believes this is a good place to start over, but is thrown when the older couple who he rents from says their granddaughter, Chauncey will be staying the summer with them. When Chauncey enters Curry's life, he feels a spark, and hears the whisper of the wish he made. Curry soon learns that Chauncey is a gift, his Agápe, created just for him. They share an unbreakable love; however, Marsala would do anything to take Chauncey out of the equation, leaving Curry with a difficult decision.
This vampire romance started off strong and fizzled midway through for me. I was at first very interested in Curry's story, how he was turned and Marsala's obsession. Curry did fall into one of the vampire tropes of hating himself and what he was turned in to. I liked how he improved his outlook with Sebastian and Soloman and wish more of that was highlighted. I was also intrigued by the setting of the story and wanted to know more about Curry as a human as well as how a large group of vampires came to settle along the Mississippi coast. I really liked the romance at first and was very interested in the idea of an Agape. While the Agápe was explained well, Curry once again fell into the vampire romance trope of deciding to go against his feelings in order to keep Chauncey safe. It is here that the book started to feel really familiar to another well known vampire romance and the plot continued to follow suit. This really didn't feel too vampirey to me, especially since Curry was regaining parts of his humanity with his Agápe. I needed more vampire action, more scares and more suspense. While the ending threw in some new twists, it wasn't quite enough to redeem the story for me or want to read the rest of the series.

Curry Brennan intended to end his cursed life and escape the enslavement of the cruel vampiress who brought the forced change upon him over 150 years ago. Instead of death though, Curry has found favor with an ancient God and has been granted an Agápe. A woman created to love him without hesitation and judgement. Chansey LeClaire feels the pull towards her grandparents new boarder and he seems too good to be true, but can she afford to become involved with someone when she’s being stalked by a mentally unstable ex?
Ms. Cates has added a great legend to the vampire mystique,the legend of Anteros and the Agápe. Now, you know me better than to think I'm going to tell you what that is or what it's ramifications are, but trust me they are significant. This book is written entirely from Curry's perspective and I couldn't have been happier about that. I always am much more interested in what the men are thinking or feeling. What really caught me by surprise and something I didn't even realize until almost the very end of the book is that there are literally no curse words. I did notice there was no sex, but Curry is an old fashion kind of guy. Not that Chansey didn't give it the old college try, but he wasn't budging. Nor was there any guts and gore, it was actually all about the story, with no shock tactics.
I enjoyed the story, and even though I am not going to revert to being a cleaned up version of myself, I wouldn't hesitate to read more of Georgia Cates new series. Even though I spent a few lines telling you what wasn't in the book, let me tell you what was. Some really interesting and off beat good vamps, a really nasty ho vamp, some decent humans, and a few not-so-decent humans,and one psychotic meat puppet. They were all tied together in a well written, thoughtful, intelligent sweet paranormal romance without all the YA drama and angst (although Curry did attempt the angst angle). This is a book you could read over the holidays with relatives and kids around without fearing someone might think you're a perv. (my family knows I'm a perv, so they expect it)

I loved that this book was a vampire story told from a males perspective! It's nice to know some men think like this and can feel this kind of emotion. The characters were strong, like-able, and relatable (for the most part, since no one is a vampire). The story was intriguing (but so short!) and refreshing from all the other YA paranormal vampire books I've read so far. The love between the two seemed real and their interactions with each other, falling in love, was adorable. The love was formed after a couple of meetings/ hanging out. BUT it didn't feel rushed or all of a sudden. It seems natural and real. This is a clean romance although sex is mentioned to be an activity performed after marriage. I just read it and I can't seem to remember any curse words at all so it is more appropriate for the younger adults to read this even though the main characters are in their mid 20's. This is a great book and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see how the conflict is resolved. I loved the dialogue and went a little crazy highlighting sections on my Kindle Fire because I thought the words were so beautiful. The only complaint I have about this book is that it ended way before I thought it would and it ended somewhat in the middle of the action. I have read many other triology/series books that have done the same thing. It doesn't bother me to the point where it knocks down a star, but I know some readers out there that HATE when authors do this. So this is a warning to those who hate it. Just wait till the second book comes out to read the first then you should be good to go.

Curry is very angry and eager to part from his maker, he hates her and everything about the vampire world, til one day he steps out intending to end his miserable exsistance. Then unexpectedly his bond is broken and he runs away back to his home that he lived in 161 years ago.
Where he meets a woman he is drawn to for the first time in vampire life, Chansey, the granddaughter of the family he rents a room off of.
What I liked about this book was the unique twist on the vampire lore. Though the vampires are and can be turned their mates are chosen by a God. And the vampire has the option for their mate to either be turned or just enjoy their time together, while he would remain immortal the mate has an option.
What also is different this book is more about romance than smex, which I have to say is much different than I have been reading as of late and is a refreshing change of pace.
I can honestly say I enjoyed this book, though I was wondering or maybe expecting to see Marsala again but when we didn't I was a bit disappointed. I really wanted to see how she would actually react to Chansey But I guess we will be seeing that in future books, I sure hope so.
This book was a nice debut for this author and I would like to see where she takes this series.

Curry Brennan’s maker, Marsala, vies for his attention and love, but he has long since despised her and what she’s made him. They’re currently in Mexico to see the historical eclipse, but all Curry wants to do is escape and decides to do so. Marsala hopes that the eclipse will enable her to be able to have children and get Curry to love her again.
Instead, the eclipse somehow releases him from the invisible forces that keep Curry by his side, so he escapes and hitches a ride to the States with Solomon, another vampire. I wasn’t for sure how I would feel about the whole story being told in a guy’s perspective. I’ve only read books that either come solely from a girl’s perspective or that alternated with male and female perspective’s. I was pleasantly surprised that I liked reading it in Curry’s perspective. I didn’t feel particularly attached to Curry or Chansey, but I do like the potential of their relationship. The plot to this story also has me intrigued to find out what happens next.
Instead, the eclipse somehow releases him from the invisible forces that keep Curry by his side, so he escapes and hitches a ride to the States with Solomon, another vampire. 'Blood of Anteros' is a young adult paranormal romance that centers around a vampire and the love he shares with a (somewhat) human girl. Although the concept of a vampire falling in love with a human isn't new in fiction, I thought that the inclusion of the Anteros myth made the plot stand out from the other books in the genre. I found the mythology surrounding Anteros and the Agape to be really interesting and I think it adds a lot of depth to the story.
The plot was sort of predictable, but was really well written. It had a great flow and was easy to read, which made it a page turner that I read really fast. I really liked the characters, even though they were kind of cliched at times. Curry is a thoughtful yet tortured vampire who falls for Chansey - a clueless human girl. Although the romance between the two of them was a bit cheesy at times, I completely loved it. Normally I make a face when the romantic parts of a book are really syrupy or corny - but I couldn't get enough of it with this book. It just seemed so honest and sweet, and I found myself smiling while reading more than once. The book had a really open ending, which leaves quite a bit of room for the next installment to pick up at. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Hopefully it will keep up with the sweet romance and maybe the plot will become even more unique.

I hadthis book on my to-read list since I read Georgia Cate's Going Under. I thought the book sounded interesting and it was not going to be the typical vampire meets human girl story.
Curry Brennan was held captive by his maker, Marsala, for over 130 years. Then on the night of the Eclipse he was ready to meet the "True Death" but instead was released through a strange event (you have to read it to believe it). During his escape he was helped by another vampire, Solomon. who became Curry's "Mentor".
After numerous years, Curry decided to return to his home that he left over 160 years ago. It is now occupied by an older husband and wife and their granddaughter, Chansey. Right off the bat, Chansey and Curry have a connection. They both cannot deny it, either. After Solomon discovers that Curry and Chansey are becoming so close they call for Sebastian (a very old and wise vampire) to help with this situation.
When Sebastian, Solomon, and Curry figure out the issue Curry has to decide what to do. He has to think about Chansey's safety and the one thing he does not want to do is turn her into a vampire. But, what does she want? And who is still lurking in the shadows?
This is just book 1 and I cannot wait to read book 2 - Blood of Jewel.

Hmmmmmmm-
I find myself arguing with myself on rating this one.. I was hooked- I mean seriously hooked, I stayed up till 3am to finish it the very same day I started it.
That alone should warrant 5 stars right?
Yet, there were lots of little things that irked me. These were the very same things that set it apart and I wanted to love them, but they weren't executed quite right. If that makes any sense at all??
It is a lovey vampire story- a beautiful romance which is told from Curry, the male vampire's perspective. (Sometimes female authors hit it dead-on when speaking from a guys mind, heart & soul- which I love! It fell a bit short in this area, it just didn't feel real at times).
So, Curry hates the monster he is- attempts to put himself out of misery & ends his existence when he is gifted with freedom instead. His journey for peace leads him to Chansey- his human Agape- which is where things really get good. Without spoiling anything... I can honestly say it will suck you in. I simply HAD to know what happened between the two of them. I am sure you will feel the same way.
Take a chance, stick with it & I am certain you will enjoy the ride- I certainly did & eagerly jumped into book 2...eager for more of Curry & his lovely Agape.

Let me just say for starters...this was wonderful. Honestly, at first I did not what to except. What I instantly did like was Curry, and his words, and then I realize that this story is all from his POV and that was interesting at first, and I really l came to like it; what it's like to be an old Vampire (oh yeah he's a vampire!) and his newfound feelings for someone else, a human in fact, a young woman named Chansey. This was a wonderful well put story. To me, I felt like there were really no cliches in this vampire read. It was uniquely different; refreshing even. This story has those good feeling scenes, where you know when you are first falling for somebody. There is this instant attraction between Curry and Chansey, and we read how they develop into something more, something like love. There is actually something really intriguing to their love connection, and it's something not to miss, believe me. Of course there are mild obstacles that threaten their love, but does it threaten their relationship? Well, it's something you have to find out.When I finished this story, I felt pretty content, and to me, it was a perfect ending, and it's one of those that makes you quickly want to read the second book :)

Completely enjoyed this story! The story is original, the characters are fantastic, the plot is clever and intriguing. It is well paced and well written.
I was thrilled with the fact that Georgia Cates brings us into the story at what should have been the end. We begin the story with Curry planning to end his life, but what happens is incredible - in the moment when his life should end, it begins anew.
Curry is a wonderful character, creatively constructed with a great personality and a little bit too much old school for the world, but Chansey, Anna and Grady find it a welcome and endearing trait.
All the characters are carefully created to fit their place in the story. Even Julian (who is icky!!!) is well done.
I enjoyed the mythology incorporated into the story and truly liked the idea of the Agape. Who wouldn't want to find the ONE person who was actually created to be their soul mate?!
I loved the way everything comes together for Chansey and Curry. Well worth the read, don't miss out on this one! I can't wait for book #2.

This is def one of the best vampire romance books I've read in a LONG time. There's too many of them out there and most of them are just repetitive knock offs.
I love the complex relationship between Curry and Chansey. They don't just meet and fall in love like it's the easiest thing in the world. There's lots of drama that has you going up and down, which I really dig. At times, I really wanted to choke Curry, but in the end, I love him and I want him for myself.
And how did the author come up with the idea for the agape? That is one of the coolest ideas I've read in a while. Def something fresh and new. I loved it.
I can't wait for Book 2 to come out. I want to know more about Marsala since she didn't make a present day appearance in this book. She has to show up and cause some stink in the next one. She sounds like a real Be-otch.
